Chapter 354: Warhammer: Lord of the Endless Monster Horde [353]
Caught completely off guard, the Necron Overlord in space watched as Rhodes unleashed his ultimate move!
A colossal red bull-shaped shockwave surged straight toward the Necron Overlord. The so-called high-tech defense barriers of the Necrons were almost meaningless to Rhodes. With the Pedan teleportation bracelet and the specially enhanced instant movement ability derived from Zetton, Rhodes used a technique the Necrons had never encountered. He easily bypassed all their defenses and appeared right before the Necron Overlord, launching his attack.
However, defeating a Necron Overlord with a single Ox-Breaking Fist wasn't that simple—even if it was just an Overlord of a minor dynasty! What's more, Rhodes, in order to hide his identity, had disguised himself as a 2.2-meter-tall, pointed-eared, slender Eldar. The attack was not the full-powered, giant-sized version of his move.
The Necron Overlord's body flashed with a dark green light, forming a protective shield that barely withstood the force of the Ox-Breaking Fist.
"Lapdog of the Old Ones! How dare you appear here and attack the mighty Overlord?" the Overlord of the Avarris Dynasty sneered coldly.
Such a powerful energy attack! It wasn't pure psychic force, but rather a physical energy strike. Even his Overlord's shield barely managed to block it.
"You're already dead!" Rhodes didn't waste words and attacked again. Having mastered the Cosmic Phantom Beast Martial Art, undergone six monster enhancements, and bonded with two phantom beasts, Rhodes's current physical prowess was nothing short of monstrous.
Even the Overlord's body, forged from the hardest living metal, was like tofu before Rhodes's iron fists.
At this moment, many Overlord Guard members and other Necron units rushed to assist their sovereign. But as they neared Rhodes, a powerful psychic barrier blocked their path—the work of Isha, hiding in the shadows. This assassination mission allowed for no interference.
"It's useless. Even if you destroy this body, I'll just take some time to fashion a new one!" the Necron Overlord, half his body already destroyed by Rhodes, scoffed.
The Necrons harbored deep-seated hatred for the creations of the Old Ones—beings of longevity, perfect form, and vast psychic intelligence.
"You think you'll return? Your consciousness can no longer reach the tomb world for rebirth," Rhodes replied.
He knew about the Necron Resurrection Protocols. If he dared this assassination, he naturally had a countermeasure. Both the Dark Eldar and Craftworld Eldar possessed such means, having assassinated Necron Overlords many times.
Using a unique device, they could trap a Necron Overlord's soul within their body. Destroying the body would then end the Overlord for good.
During the defense of the Gate of the Underworld in the early Baal War, an Overlord of a Necron legion was killed by an Eldar assassin in this way.
Such cases weren't rare, and with a literal Eldar god on his side, Rhodes had every advantage.
The Necron Overlord's face turned to horror as he realized his consciousness couldn't return to the tomb world's core. How could this be? As supreme ruler of the Avarris Dynasty, to die here to some mysterious assassin?!
"Overlord Guard! Save me!" the Overlord roared.
Unfortunately, his guards couldn't even cross the psychic barrier. The powerful force field locked them out, even preventing their phase teleportation.
"Activate the C'tan Shard! If I must die, I'll take you down with me!" the Overlord shouted.
Damn Eldar assassin—even in death, he wouldn't let Rhodes go easily. He would unleash the dynasty's ultimate weapon: the C'tan Shard. He would send out a signal across the galaxy, alerting all awakened Necron dynasties.
Rhodes sneered, gripped the Overlord's metallic skull, and unleashed a terrifying fire, physically obliterating the Necron. The last digital fragments of the Overlord's consciousness faded into nothingness.
Thus, a minor Necron dynasty's Overlord fell to Rhodes. With his final order, all restraints deep in the tomb world's core released, and a towering, kilometer-high energy entity burst forth.
As it appeared, countless Necron units were instantly torn to pieces, even sending several of Rhodes's Zetton troops flying. Yet Zetton's defensive shields held off most of the damage. This pure energy being, over a thousand meters tall and radiating deep blue light, immediately disrupted psychic energy across the planet.
The first to suffer were the daemons teleported in from the Warp. Their forms dimmed as the C'tan's anti-Warp aura suppressed their powers, even more ferocious than a Blackstone Fortress.
Countless Warp daemons fell into weakness, slaughtered by Necron warriors. But the freed C'tan Shard, instead of attacking Rhodes first, vented its infinite rage upon the Necrons.
After sixty million years, shattered and imprisoned in the tomb world's core, the C'tan had been drained of energy by its former slaves. The C'tan Shards were perfect matter of the physical universe, providing endless energy—true infinite power. After the Silent King defeated the C'tan and shattered them, each Necron dynasty received a shard to extract energy.
The C'tan were decreed the lowest of the low—worse than slaves. The humiliation they suffered was unimaginable!
With no words wasted, the C'tan unleashed its fury on the steel skeletons, annihilating swathes of Necrons.
If you couldn't control a C'tan Shard, it would inevitably turn on the Necrons first. This weak dynasty clearly lacked control, serving only to imprison and extract energy from the Shard.
The Overlord's death threw the Necron forces into chaos, all units losing command at once.
Rhodes watched the C'tan's rampage with interest. Born of the physical universe, the C'tan wielded ultimate physical laws, able to disrupt basic physics and even provide the Necrons with their most advanced technology.
Necron gauss weapons had no effect on a C'tan Shard. Rhodes observed briefly, then took action—after all, Necrons were worth system coins, even if less than Tyranids.
Necrons provided the fewest system coins among all life Rhodes had encountered, being made of living metal and barely containing a trace of soul.
Lucius could possess Necrons, meaning they had a sliver of soul left. If their souls were fully devoured by the C'tan, they would be mere puppets, incapable of betrayal.
This C'tan was immensely powerful—none of Rhodes's monsters could match it. The energy it exuded was overwhelming.
Instead of fighting the C'tan himself, Rhodes released his top-tier Cosmic Mantis. Now over a thousand meters tall, it was even larger than the C'tan Shard.
The C'tan, pausing its Necron massacre, looked over in curiosity at the Cosmic Phantom Beast, its energy body growing excited.
An ancient, obscure language issued from the C'tan. Rhodes couldn't understand, but the powerful energy resonance allowed all present to grasp the meaning.
"Kin newly awakened to self-awareness! Help me destroy these traitors, and I will teach you how to evolve by devouring stars," said the C'tan Shard.
Indeed, to the C'tan, Rhodes's supercharged phantom beasts were like newly born kin, not yet having devoured any stellar energy.
All C'tan had started this way, growing into terrifying gods by consuming the energy of stars.
"Accept his offer! Help him take down the Necrons first."
