Chapter 45, Battle on the Ice (Part 2) (5,600-word chapter)
PS. This chapter has 5600 words, quite something, right!
Tauros was closing in, and in its eyes, this person seemed to have given up resistance. It didn't matter whether it was because of excessive blood loss or because its attacks had made him dizzy.
What mattered was that victory was near.
So it quickened its steps with relish.
Watching the figure of the Four-armed Bull Demon gradually approaching, Laine carefully calculated Tauros's steps, gathering the last bit of strength.
The thick bull hooves stepped on the ice surface, leaving cracks wherever it passed.
Closer, the gigantic shadow approached, shrouding the sun with its form, and Laine's body gradually fell under the shadow.
Five meters, four meters, three meters.
When the Four-armed Bull Demon came within about two meters of Laine, Laine finally moved.
The White Wolf Knight's right fist slammed heavily onto the icy river below him. A dense web of cracks began spreading from under Laine, and then, gritting his teeth, Laine endured the pain and rolled aside to dodge.
A myriad of cracks finally linked up with the fissures beneath Tauros's feet.
The fragile surface of the icy river could no longer bear the heavy steps of the Four-armed Bull Demon. Just as Tauros was about to raise his axe, he felt the ground beneath him give way, and half of his body suddenly plunged into the icy river. The piercing cold and weightlessness sent his body into temporary paralysis.
Now's the chance! Laine's right wrist flashed with the glow of the Spiritual Blade, and the White Wolf Knight lunged forward, two beams of light crisscrossing.
"Aaaaaaa!" The two bone-bladed arms on the back of the Four-armed Bull Demon were severed by Laine's Spiritual Blade, sending Tauros into madness after losing his regenerated arms. The only remaining arm wildly swung the axe, and seeing this, Laine swiftly evaded, then dashed quickly towards a particular direction.
"Smart move." In the void, a graceful figure slightly nodded. She had long golden hair reaching her waist and almost a perfect, statuesque figure, but her face was obscured by a thin mist, making it unclear. Watching Laine choose to retreat after severely wounding the Four-armed Bull Demon, a strange light flickered in the woman's eyes.
"Foolish!!" On the contrary, Yurik's outraged roar echoed. He yelled disappointedly, "This kid really is a letdown! As a White Wolf Knight, he should fight to the death!"
"He hasn't given up, Yurik!"
"What?"
Laine clutched his right shoulder, limping over to a wagon abandoned by the caravan, pulling back the canvas to reveal two barrels of sealed Volatile Oil. The White Wolf Knight nodded, lifting one of the barrels.
Meanwhile, the Four-armed Bull Demon finally clambered out of the riverbed. As he raised his head, he saw a large wooden barrel flying towards him. Tauros let out a roar, smashing the barrel, "Do you think this can defeat me? Human... what is this?"
The barrel was easily shattered, but the black viscous liquid stored inside poured all over him.
"It's over!!!" Laine seized a torch left by the caravan, with a flick of his right hand, igniting it. After a short sprint, the burning torch was hurled from his left hand, spiraling through the icy air, the red flame above contacting the black liquid on Tauros.
What's this? What's this human doing?
Those were the last thoughts in Tauros's mind.
"Boom!!!!!!!"
A tremendous explosion thundered from the peaks of Scavell Mountain, its massive shockwave reverberating through the valley, swaying swathes of coniferous forest, with countless drifts of snow dropping to the ground. The terrible explosion left charred marks within ten meters around and whipped up a cloud of dust, forcing Laine to cover his eyes and nose.
About ten seconds later, the dust slowly settled.
The body of the Four-armed Bull Demon at the center of the explosion was charred black, its last remaining left arm blown off in the blast, its rock-like hide utterly destroyed, revealing ghastly white bones everywhere. Its abdomen was blasted open, innards strewn across the ground, and half its bovine face was torn apart in the explosion, exposing teeth in some places, creating a terrifying scene.
Yet even so, Tauros was still alive, struggling to move towards Laine, with a smile still on its face.
A crazy smile, a bloodthirsty smile, a venomous smile.
"Human... you're strong, you're really strong... Aaaaaa!" Tauros spoke venomously, "Maybe you could defeat me today... but one day I'll return from Subspace, and when I do, with my teeth, I'll strip your flesh inch by inch from your bones, I'll chew your brain in my mouth, and I'll let you taste true pain!"
"I curse you... Your wounds may heal, but the pain won't. The wound I left on your shoulder... will accompany you for life! You will forever be tormented by it," Tauros's sole remaining bovine eye shone with a blood-red light, aimed directly at Laine.
"Oh? Is that so? I think you won't have that chance!" Laine's body swayed, but his indomitable will ultimately overcame the physical pain, the White Wolf Knight rushed to Tauros's front.
"In Don's name!" All the remaining Spiritual Energy in Laine's body was channeled into his left hand, pale blue Spiritual Energy gathering and gradually bursting into a golden-silver radiance.
The White Wolf Knight slightly turned his body to the left, then swiftly twisted his upper body, left foot firmly pushing off the ground, and his left fist, following the motion, struck downwards, forwards, and upwards.
