CH159-Matrix
As the lone tear slid off Samael's cheeks and plummeted down to the ground, hitting the ankle-deep water of his soul as it sent ripples outwards, travelling far and wide.
However, this ripple was not only felt within but outside as well, as the training ground began to tremble, causing dust to fall off the pillars in the place.
Ajax's eyes widened as Nova shook his head and chuckled in disbelief.
"Are you serious right now?" Nova muttered as he took a step back, allowing Samael some space as he stood on guard. Ajax did the same as he heightened his senses.
Meanwhile, Samael stared at the Void as it nodded.
Slowly, it reached out its hand, touching the surface of the inactive dunamis as the void matter slowly rose from the ground, circling slowly but surely in a beautiful and solemn manner. It almost looked akin to the petals of a flower closing in.
"...There will be no going back. Are you truly certain this is what you want?"
Samael looked at the darkness as he smiled. "Feel it yourself."
"...I see."
For a moment, Samael saw through the dark veil as he saw relief behind the eyes of the depths. One paired with pride.
Somehow, it felt as though it needed to hear those words.
As the void matter slowly circled and devoured the sphere, it began to compress into a thin thread floating in the vast darkness. One glowing purple thread that slowly levitated towards the hand of the abyss.
As it covered inches from its palms, it looked at Samael as it nodded. "Be prepared; you will soon feel the waves you have once again caused."
Its palms closed.
And another ripple coursed through Samael's body. One stronger than before. One heavier than ever.
Nova and Ajax themselves felt their bodies tremble for a moment. But they remained steadfast.
Samael looked up as he witnessed his new core slowly grow brighter. The purple lines squiggled over its surface, pulsing every now and often.
However, what fascinated him further were the changes occurring on its surface.
Right in front of him, he could see a thin veil slowly grow and envelop the sphere. It almost looked similar to how flesh regenerates rapidly.
But instead of closing and stitching up wounds, it began to open.
Yes, open.
Inch by inch, Samael witnessed the sphere grow smaller and smaller as the excess parts were trimmed away. However, they were not thrown away like waste but instead simply floated near the centre orb.
As the transition slowly ended, the once star-like orb had become a small, smooth sphere with a carving on its centre that almost looked like that of a target board.
There was also some form of a ring-like stream circling through the entire sphere that glowed purple.
The excess parts simply hovered near the centre, floating harmoniously, yet Samael instinctively felt they were incomplete.
As the entire procedure ended, Samael felt the ground beneath him shake violently as cracks began to appear. The water boiled as the darkness shifted like the wind.
However, as he went through rebirth before, his soul did too, as Samael watched the glowing white figure, his spirit, begin to crack where bright lights poured out.
Yet, it showed no fear but rather satisfaction.
"It is beginning. Yet another chain is shattered."
Raising its hand, Samael saw it yank off another glowing chain, one amongst the dozens, as it shattered like glass.
Slowly, the crack on the body of his spirit closed off as its light grew brighter than ever before, becoming a torch amidst the ocean of darkness.
His spiritual chamber also began to repair itself as the water reaching Samael's ankles was dried out. Yet, as he looked beneath him, he found himself walking on an almost marble, glass-like floor where each step he took made a ripple beneath the veil ripple.
Not only that, the Void's presence grew stronger.
"It is done."
Samael smiled as he watched his body slowly dissipate. "I'll see you around then."
"I'll see you around as well."

As Samael opened his eyes, he found himself sitting on the floor where a beautiful pattern had etched itself on the very surface with him in its centre. It almost reminded him of his core.
"Congratulations, Samael, you're a saint now," Nova spoke as he slid in and circled the boy. "How did you do it? How could someone suddenly jump ranks that far?"
Samael stood up as he dusted himself, feeling an overwhelming amount of power circulating in his veins.
Looking around, he knew his senses had been heightened once more. He could now perceive the dangers Nova and Ajax presented.
If you spot this tale on Amazon, know that it has been stolen. Report the violation.
It wasn't as blinding as the other ascensions he had before, yet it held this tranquillity and silent strength, strength that he had never felt or dreamed would be possible.
It was as though he was rebirthed, but this time in a purer form.
He could sense his newfound power circulating through his vessels, and as Nova said, it wasn't the most optimised version of it. Yet, he couldn't help but notice something a little off.
Nova said there were a few routes they had to rearrange to find the perfect flow. Yet, Samael couldn't help but find that... wrong?
Few?
There weren't just a few paths; there were dozens, if not hundreds, of roads, each as complicated as the other. They branch out in these intertwining systems.
He had questions. But he wishes to talk when he is alone.
Looking at Samael, Nova muttered. "You are indeed a newborn saint, yet your aura is nearly that of a peak-ranked saint or even higher."
Samael's brows rose. Is it because of the second shard? When I was an enlightened rank individual, my stats were nearly that of a saint. Does that mean I will possess the stats of a transcendent when I reach peak rank, Saint?
"If I were to say it, I'd say if you fought Ajax right now with everything and he did the same, the outcome is undetermined," Nova said as he massaged his chin.
Ajax himself did not comment, confirming his suspicions. Ajax knew if he and Samael fought, there was no way of knowing who would win.
Currently, Ajax was in a bottleneck of peak sainthood. A growth speed incomparable to the other Saints. However, Samael's aura and sheer power right now were not far behind him. If they fought off sheer strength and pure power alone, he would undoubtedly lose.
Not to mention his element.
Samael's element was a black sheep. It was incredibly powerful; it might even be higher than Nova's time manipulation if utilised at its full potential. His shadow was no match against darkness itself
.
But what evened out the playing field was Ajax's experience. Years of fighting abominations accumulating to form an efficient killing machine. But even with that, it was cutting it close.
But Ajax did not feel threatened but rather proud. Samael was steadily surpassing him. He was one step closer to his goal.
"Clearly, you have something on your mind," Nova said, breaking the two from their stupor. "So for now, I'll let you two go and rest. I myself need to rethink a couple of things before we continue."
Samael nodded as they all went their separate ways. But Samael remained on the training ground for a little as he began to ask.
"Codex, what happened?"
| After you asked for the Void to consume the dormant Dunamis Core, all its remaining energy and fuel were transferred to the Abyss. However, due to the nature of your soul, it was not a small amount. |
"So that is what propelled me to another level?"
| That is precisely correct. |
"I don't understand, though. Nova said a dunamis has a few routes for delivery of essence, and mine is nowhere near that."
| That is because what you possess is not a Dunamis. |
Samael's brows furrowed.
"Get straight to the point."
| What you possess is a Matrix, a better and superior core that is typically possessed by entities far beyond what the user is capable of accessing. |
"Does that make it better or worse?"
| Better, in all forms and ways. Dunamis are like pipes and sewer lines, but a matrix is akin to that of the gate itself. By consuming that dormant core, it had finally awakened. Its current state is 10% into awakening. |
Samael fell silent for a moment.
If what the codex said is true, then this is far more beneficial than he had thought.
"But how did I come into possession of one?"
| Your soul is a vagabond, Samael. From the moment you drifted to me, a seed was planted within you due to my weakness. But now that seed had bloomed. |
"You... talk different." Samael's eyes softened. The Codex spoke with a lot more emotion than before.
| That is because I had awakened. |
"You... you're the Matrix?" Samael's eyes widened.
| Yes, yes, I am. |
Samael fell silent once more. The only thing providing noise was the sound of the wind whipping his hair back.
"Then I guess good morning?" A soft chuckle escaped his lips.
| Yes, I waken. |
"Should we call you something else, then? I used the name Codex because it felt proper for an entity like you," Samael said.
| Then what would you call me now? |
Samael's eyes drifted for a moment.
The codex now felt more... alive and real. It was as though he was talking to a person. As such, it was only right to give her a real name.
One that embodies her.
But what would that be?
The Codex before felt cold and indifferent. But the codex now felt real and human. Though not physically, Samael could hear her voice through the dark. Like a guide and a silent hymn in the darkness.
Yes, a name like that would fit her.
"From henceforth, you are now Elyra, a friend, a guide and a family."
| Thank you. |
Samael smiled as he took a deep breath.
| No need to tell the boss. I know the way. |
Samael's smile widened.
| Due to you reaching the rank of a saint, you gained the following. |
|
[STATS] Name: Samael Blank Title: [Loved by the void]...[+] Species: Void Spawn [+] Affinity: Void [+] Rank: Saint I Condition: Good, Healthy STATS STR: 1,089,233 SPD/AGI: 1,088,888 CONSTITUTION: 1,109,887 SPIRIT: 1,789,099 CHARM: 54,000 ∆SKILLS [+] |
Samael's eyes trembled the more he read the letters on the panel. It was shocking— shocking was an understatement. This, this was beyond what he had ever thought he would ever reach.
He was now on the seven digits. He used to have 100k or so, but he is now in the millions. He was beyond human comprehension now.
Not only that, but his stats were higher than ordinary saints. What Nova said made so much more sense now that he had seen it for himself.
Then it might indeed be true. If he and Ajax fought, he may truly have a chance at winning.
How much more if he uses Hyperdrive? Or Void Raven's ability? How much higher will his stats fly?
| If you did indeed use those abilities, you may potentially reach two million. Putting you in the early transcendental levels. |
Samael's smile sharpened to a grin.
|
Void: Tier 1 Mark 7 Control: Tier 1 Mark 7 Quantity: Tier 2 Mark 7 |
It seems his elemental control itself jumped off the roof. He was higher than ever now with 2-mark jumps.
If that is the case...
"Show me the new skills."
