Chapter 21: All For Nothing!
"Squeck!!!"
A sharp screech resounded through the street as the rat leapt forwards, breaking through the glass panel doors of the company.
In just a single leap, it had crossed an entire distance of ten meters, its speed was so fast its figure blurred into a huge shadow and in the blink of an eye, it had shortened the distance between it and Draziel within a second.
Draziel evaded sideways, but he realized he wasn't fast enough to evade, the rat had changed direction so quickly. He calculated that the Mutated Rat was more than two times faster than him, Draziel grabbed his two axes and cross them before him.
"Dang!!!"
The sound of metal clashing against metal reverberated loudly through the entire lobby.
The force numbed Draziel's hands and his body was sent flying backwards like a wrecked kite, bouncing against the ground from the immense impact.
His two axe had been tossed to the ground during the clash.
Draziel twisted his waist, forcefully managing to land on his feet as he slide backwards a few meters by the force.
He felt his limbs go numb and his muscles extremely painful as though his bones had been dislocated.
Perhaps, it was a good thing the Mutated Rat advanced using its agility and not its strength otherwise 10+ points of strength against 4 points was like a man trying to stop a moving vehicle. Draziel would have been instantly crushed.
Reluctance, excitement and struggle appeared on Draziel's face. He didn't want to have to use that and waste it, but it appears he would definitely die here if he doesn't.
"System, increase vitality by 3 points and Agility by 3 points!"
[Vitality +3]
[Agility +3]
Within a split second, Draziel felt his muscles itch as a warm current flowed through them like lightning but soon disappeared as though it wasn't there in the first place.
The Mutated Rat stared at Draziel with murderous intent flickering within its beady red eyes. Its claws scratched against the smooth pavement, digging deeply into it as it pounced towards Draziel.
Stomping his leg heavily to the ground, he retreated hastily, while raising the Glock from the holster, he fired.
"Peng!"
The reaction speed of the Mutated Rat was insanely fast, but Draziel was far too experienced with his aim.
Even with its speed, the Mutated Rat wasn't able to dodge fully as the bullet shot into its shoulder, sadly it wasn't able to pierce through and only lodge in between its muscles.
If it were a normal human with vitality points of 1, the firepower of the Glock 20 was enough to instantly kill them, but the vitality of the mutated rat was obviously very high. With the bullets just barely penetrating its muscles.
In the next moment, the mutated rat had arrived before him in the blink of an eye, it raised its left paw and clawed heavily at Draziel's chest in a flash.
"Swoosh!"
Sidestepping, with 7 points in agility, Draziel narrowly evaded being clawed on the chest. If it was before, there was no way he would have avoided that even if he was able to predict the attack, he would still be too slow to react and would definitely have been hit by the chest and decapitated before he knew it.
However, thanks to 7 points of agility and his ability to perfectly analyse and process the tiniest of detail to predict one's next move, he was barely able to evade being clawed to death.
His sharp combat knife brushed past the Mutant Rat's skin, opening a flesh wound, barely dealing any damage and just adding a red line to it's ash coloured skin. His strength was just too low to deal any real damage to the mutated beast.
Draziel turned as he moved, simultaneously kicked at the belly side of the beast, diving backwards as he fired two rounds at the Mutated Rat's body.
"Peng!" "Peng!!" "Squeak!!!"
The Mutated rat let out a high-pitched squeal of pain and extreme fury, as the two bullets punctured its neck, drawing out copious amounts of blood. The arteries that carry blood to its brain had been punctured and in time, the Type 1 Mutated rat would eventually bleed out.
Surprisingly, humans and rats are actually more alike than they are different. For one thing, their genetic structures are 80 percent similar to that of humans.
As Draziel rolled back to his feet, the nearly two-meters Mutated Rat suddenly disappeared from its previous position, then appeared before him like a ghost, clawing downwards at his head.
However, Draziel could now track the mutated beast albeit barely. He forcefully twisted his waist to the side, narrowly avoiding being beheaded as he kicked at the underside of the beast, leaping backwards while opening fire once more.
"Whoosh!"
"Peng!" "Peng!" "Peng!"
Three bullets tore through the air, penetrating the exact same place on the artery, blood spurted out.
The Mutated Rat's shrieked, its eyes turning red as it went into a frenzy. Its tail whipped through the air, stabbing towards Draziel.
"Bang!"
Draziel raised his combat knife, blocking the tail from piercing his chest, but he was sent staggering three steps backwards.
Using this opportunity, the Mutated Rat jump pounced towards him. Draziel swiftly used the previous waning kinetic energy and fell flat backwards letting the Mutated Rat cross over him.
"Peng!" "Peng!" "Peng!"
Three bullets tore through the barrel, gun powder spraying through the air as the bullet pierced into the neck of the Mutant where he had previously shot.
The bullet ripped through its neck, its injury widening even more as its body fell to the ground as it staggered unsteadily, blood spilling profusely to the ground.
Whining sounds escaped its lips as it was weakening and its strength dwindling. It leapt at Draziel again but its speed was slow therefore, Draziel was able to kite it, avoiding it till the blood loss started its effect.
The mutated rat helplessly fell to the ground, struggling to get up, but the blood loss was too severe, affecting its stamina in the process.
Draziel watched coldly as life left its eyes. In a few minutes, the Mutated Rat died in its own pool of blood.
Draziel wasn't happy that he successfully killed the mutated beast. He was unhappy instead. The unplanned use of the transcendent nexus frustrated him and right now, he could no longer save it for future purpose.
He checked his notification to see what the beast dropped.
[You have no new notification.]
Draziel's expression turned cold and the muscles in his face clenched as his facial expression hardened.
It seems like killing with external objects like bullets doesn't really help.
"What a waste." Draziel picked his two axes off the ground, he headed for the stairs, dragging the zombie corpses from blocking the way, he locked the door to the stairs as he headed up.
He needed to rest. His arms were extremely sore and his bones were shaking. Since his vitality is 4 times that of an average human, it should heal after a few hours of rest.
