Chapter 674: Why Should I Apologize
With a dull thud, Chu Ge paused slightly, his brows involuntarily furrowing again.
Hit? That short-haired man's kick actually landed squarely on the bend of Chef Song's left leg?
Chef Song staggered, almost kneeling to the ground, and as his body tilted forward, a middle-parting man standing directly to his front left also made a move, bending his elbow and swinging his arm, landing a big hook punch on the right side of his face.
The force of this punch was tremendous; the fist sank directly into the flesh of Chef Song's face, and his head and body were skewed by the force, as another man wearing glasses at the table gave him a vicious kick in the stomach.
Four men, four strikes, Chef Song only managed to dodge the slap from the long-faced man, and that too was avoided in a manner that could only be described as comical and coincidental.
"Do you know anything now?" The long-faced man grabbed the collar of Chef Song's chef uniform, asking sinisterly.
"Brother, I really don't know, I truly don't." Facing that sinister gaze, Chef Song tried his best to explain, feeling both wronged and frustrated.
"Still don't know?" The long-faced man suddenly laughed out loud and turned his head to look at the other three standing in different directions surrounding Chef Song, "What do you say we should do, to make him understand?"
The short-haired man rubbed his chin, the middle-parting man smoothed his hair, and the man with glasses adjusted his spectacles, all three showing an evil grin.
The long-faced man tilted his head to glance at Chef Song a few times, then suddenly pushed forward with the hand gripping his collar, causing Chef Song to fall to the ground, as the four of them took a step forward from each direction.
"Ladies and gentlemen, just let it go, you've already beaten him, surely you've vented enough?"
Just as these four were clearly about to make another move, the manager stepped forward, though fear was etched on his face, he still blocked in front of Chef Song. Shortly afterward, several waiters in the hall gathered around, joining the manager to protect Chef Song.
"What, you all intend to stand up for him?" The long-faced man was taken aback, then let out a strange laugh, "Didn't see that this fatty actually has quite a way with women! Have you all been getting involved with him?"
"You..." The manager and several waiters' faces flushed with anger instantly, "If you continue, I'll call the police."
"No no no! Don't!" It wasn't Long Kun's four men speaking, but Chef Song himself, protected by several women, hurriedly got up from the ground, looking indescribably tense.
The long-faced man glanced at Chef Song, "Hmph, coward, are you guilty? You don't even dare to call the police, so you admit there's a problem with your cooking?"
"I, I didn't, really didn't."
"Do you believe what you're saying?"
Long Kun's four men were about to push the women aside and continue assaulting Chef Song when suddenly a voice full of anger came from not far away.
"He certainly believes it, and we believe it too!"
Everyone turned to the sound and saw a group of more than a dozen men, dressed in white chef uniforms and wearing chef hats, ranging from seventeen or eighteen to thirty or forty years old, striding over.
Some held kitchen knives, others large ladles; essentially all sorts of kitchen tools, the most exaggerated being the leader holding a large pot, forming two horizontal lines, their eyes cold and fierce.
The leading chef in his forties, tall and sturdy, stopped in front of the four with the long face, raised his strong arm, and pointed the large pot in his hand at the long-faced man, "Baijia not only has a way with women but with men too!"
The long-faced man was stunned again, but only for a moment, quickly resuming a look of disdain, spitting on the ground, tilting his head, and raising his chin.
"What do you all want? We found cockroaches in the food he cooked. We asked him to redo it, and he brought out the same dish again. Do you think you're justified? Are you running a shady business here? Damn!"
A young man in his twenties also raised a kitchen knife, pointing it at the long-faced man, "You know very well what happened, I was watching when my master cooked, there were no coins, no cockroaches!"
"Go screw yourself, you're all in on it. Of course, you're going to stand up for him!"
The long-faced man sneered at the young man, took a big step forward, flicked his finger on the knife, then bent over and placed his neck under the blade, "Trying to scare me with this? Go on, cut me if you dare?"
After waiting for a few seconds, the long-faced man straightened up, roughly shoving the young man aside, who was frightened by his ferocity, "Don't dare, right? Then get lost and play elsewhere!"
With that, the long-faced man turned around and strode towards the anxious-looking Chef Song, signaling to the other three. They quickly pushed the women aside and started punching and kicking Chef Song while cursing.
Seeing Chef Song being beaten, the people from the kitchen were instantly furious, wielding various tools as they rushed over.
Unfortunately, while they could use these things to intimidate, actually using them on people was something they truly didn't dare to do.
Moreover, the four people who beat up Chef Song were Long Kun's carefully selected subordinates, how could they possibly be scared off?
Even though there were more people on the kitchen staff's side, the gap between them and these four fighting experts quickly became evident. The scene, already chaotic, instantly turned into absolute bedlam.
"Bang bang bang..."
With the sounds of fists and feet landing on flesh, several kitchen staff members were knocked aside, and the initial momentum of more than ten people vanished without a trace, leaving them to watch helplessly as Chef Song was surrounded and kicked repeatedly by the four.
Chu Ge had been carefully observing this drama he orchestrated all along. Watching up to this point, doubts were indeed rising in his heart, which is why he chose not to intervene yet.
At this moment, Chef Song indeed looked very downcast, having taken quite a few punches and kicks, but his knees had never touched the ground, nor had he been slapped even once.
If others saw this scene, they would certainly not notice such details. Even if they did, they'd probably think it was just a coincidence.
Chu Ge initially thought the same. One time is a coincidence, two times is a coincidence, but three times, four times, even nine times, ten times — can that still be called a coincidence?
No matter how it looked, it was clearly not a coincidence.
Besides this, there was another point that deserved Chu Ge's attention, which was that despite taking so many hits, Chef Song seemed entirely unbothered.
Even his cries of pain when beaten sounded so full of energy that Chu Ge really doubted whether these four had inflicted even the slightest harm on him.
From Chef Song's appearance at the previous company dinner to his current beating, all signs clearly indicated that this Chef Song seemed quite unusual. Unfortunately, based on the current situation, Chu Ge couldn't determine exactly how unusual he was.
In truth, whether Chef Song was simple or not was something Chu Ge found curious, but it wasn't particularly what he cared about. What he truly cared about was whether this Chef Song had any ulterior motives against him or anyone around him.
Looking at the four who were clearly a bit tired from fighting, Chu Ge felt that the first phase of his observation had reached a satisfactory point and the farce could be brought to an end.
Just as Chu Ge was about to take some action, he suddenly saw a man in his forties hurriedly walk in, heading straight towards Chef Song and Long Kun's four subordinates.
"Gentlemen, gentlemen, I am the owner here. What happened?"
Seeing the leisure club's owner arrive, Chu Ge decided against stepping in. After all, these four were here to handle his matters, and having Chef Song's boss intervene seemed much more appropriate than him meddling.
A long-faced man wiped the sweat off his forehead, speaking with a hostile tone while panting heavily, recounting the events. After listening, the owner immediately turned around, looking at Chef Song with fury.
"Song Baijia! How could you cause me so much trouble! Did my words to you this morning fall on deaf ears? Yesterday you just got a customer complaint, and today you're causing trouble again? Why aren't you quickly apologizing to these gentlemen?"
Chu Ge was dumbfounded. What kind of boss believes anything these people say? Didn't he see Chef Song getting beaten? How does he not show any intent to defend Chef Song?
Chu Ge was truly puzzled. With Chef Song's skills, if he were at another place, he might not be revered like an ancestor, but at least he wouldn't be treated in such a disrespectful manner, right?
Chef Song shook his head, "Boss, I didn't do anything. They're falsely accusing me. Why should I apologize?"
"You're getting bold, aren't you?" The boss frowned, jabbing his short and stubby fingers at Chef Song's forehead, "I told you to apologize, so apologize. Why so much nonsense!"
Chef Song still shook his head, "Boss, it truly has nothing to do with me."
"You!"
The boss's face twitched. Being contradicted by Chef Song in front of everyone made his anger even more evident. With narrowed eyes, he lowered his voice, "You'll have your entire month's salary deducted, and you don't want next month's salary either, right?"
Chef Song lowered his head, brushing off the footprints left on his clothes with a carefree grin, "Then I won't take it."
Saying that, he turned around and walked away. His steps seemed a bit staggered, but Chu Ge immediately saw through it — this guy was just faking it.
The boss was left dumbfounded, damn, it was clear Song Baijia threw this mess at him and walked away! His cheeks puffed up with anger, but there was nothing he could do about Song Baijia's disregard for his threats.
Not only was the boss stunned, but the four including the long-faced man were also unsure. Long Kun had clearly instructed them to come here and provoke Chef Song into a fight, but so far, Chef Song hadn't fought back at all.
This... doesn't seem like completing the task, right?
