Unrequited Love: Fate Worst Then Death

Chapter 4: Chapter 2. The Start

2. The Start

Selena's POV:

I'm heading home after a long day. As soon as I entered our mansion, I noticed Alice standing sideways, oblivious to my presence, with a grin on her face.

Alice is in her late fifties, a little grouchy at first, but after you get to know her, she is one wild being. She has been working for us for the past seventeen years. What works, one would wonder?

She is a maid, although we don't like to call her that. Alice has been more of a family member and friend than anybody else. She has been a grandmother figure to me since I was three years old; she has played an important role in raising me with my mother, instilling moral principles in me, and making me a better person.

"Oh my goodness! Why is a gorgeous young lady like you out this late?" She turns to face me as I speak the words, innocence oozing from my voice as I try to calm her down, knowing full well what effect these puppy dog eyes have on her.

"You suck with time, don't you, Selena? Is this the time to come home?" A scowl formed on her heart-shaped face as she stared at me carefully.

"OK, I can explain this, you know I was in orphanage, missed my bus, couldn't get a taxi and you know I can't drive to save my life, dad's no driver at night isn't doing any good," I reply in a breath, trying to avoid Alice's fury.

By the end of my remarks, she appears to be at ease. " Alright, try coming earlier next time, and if you did eat your meal, come I'll place the plates."

Isn't she as obstinate as ever? I try to tell her that my stomach is already full and that I've already eaten, but she won't allow me.

"In the meantime, you go freshen yourself, take a bath, and change your clothes," she says again.

"Alice, recall I went to a birthday party, so don't you believe I was offered dinner there, which I definitely could accept?" I asked, a toothy grin on my face.

"Don't you think I'm becoming old, Angel (short for Angelica), I forget things easily?" Alice asked, attempting to seem sad.

"Old! come on Alice, that's like exaggerating, have you seen yourself, guys would drool over this beauty," I teased her.

"By the way, has mum returned from the sermon?" I continued without pausing, "and what about dad, has he returned from his business trip?"

I asked Alice about my parents as we climbed the spiral staircase together, towards our room, which is on the same floor.

My mother might have returned by now, and my father would be wailing about why he hasn't returned home yet and how his flight was delayed. I tell you, this is a typical Khione family.

" Candice came in later this evening, who is now resting in her room after a long day, and Ryan's flight was delayed, he said we would notify you that he would take the first flight this morning."

I went to bed when I got to my room. "See you in the morning, Alice; tell mom to get me up before nine a.m. since I have college to attend."

"Freshen up and sleep, Angel," Alice whispered as she kissed my cheek.

Isn't she the cutest little thing? I walked inside my clean room. Alice, of course, made my bed beautifully.

I took a pair of PJs from my walk-in closet, yes, a walk-in closet, although a very small one. Nonetheless, I have one, so be jealous.

We're not multi-millionaires or billionaires, but we're wealthy enough to live a luxury lifestyle. Being the only child helps you have your wishes granted.

I had a round canopy bed in the center of the room with various cushions thrown around it—two windows side by side to a large door leading to a patio.

Blue curtains were drawn on the doors and windows to prevent light from entering and disturbing my lovely sleep in the morning.

All of the good memories of the day rushed back to me as soon as my head struck the pillow, and I found myself smiling at them.

"Why did my parents abandon me Ser, am I a horrible baby?" I remembered Anna's sorrowful comments.

After some consolation, she dismissed the subject and continued playing with her pals, but not before inquiring about him.

" Ser, do you know what I wished for before cutting the cake?" she asked, but I didn't imagine she would sit this.

"I pray to God that you and Revan will be together forever," she said, and I froze. She ran away with her friends, winking at me.

I got out my phone and looked up his name because I hadn't seen him in a long time. I was doing everything I could to forget him and erase all of his memories, as if it were even possible. If not, it's becoming worse by the day.

I opened my social media accounts, expecting to find his name somewhere, anywhere. I know I'm going to break my heart with my own hands, but I was hoping to find his message for me somewhere.

But who were I kidding? It was another another non-event. My naive self assumed he would be concerned about my existence, whether I was alive or dead.

Nonetheless, I found myself smiling at his photos, and my mind traveled back to the beginning of everything, The beginning of my demise.
