Unrequited Love: Fate Worst Then Death

Chapter 3: Chapter 1. Spreading Happiness

1.Spreading Happiness

Present

Selena's POV

I was late, and I needed to get to the orphanage on time to undertake social work. Just like that, being among children gives me a sense of belonging. It's the one area where I can forget about my problems and losses.

'Support and Care Fondling Home' is where I spend the most of my time, more than my home, if it can be called that. I'm not sure how someone can be callous enough to discard these little bundles of joy. What have they ever done wrong? Others have simply been unlucky to lose their parents at such a young age.

I was normally on time, but today I simply overslept, possibly because I was exhausted from yesterday's baking. I was passionate about baking, and I hoped to create a career out of it by opening my own bakery or restaurant.

It was Anna's birthday, and I was holding my dress in one hand, a cake box in the other, and Chicken Alfredo Pasta, which Anna adores.

I'm wearing a ruby red gown with a lace bodice that precisely hugged my body; it wasn't too revealing, and I'll feel comfortable wearing it all day. My dark hair flowed freely with the breeze as I ran, my naturally curly hair complementing my round face perfectly.

I was endowed with a small physique, tiny waist, fair skin, natural blush coating my cheeks, button nose, and blue-green eyes. In short, I was someone every girl aspires to be, according to others around me, yet I'm not secure in my physical appearance.

When I arrived at the orphanage, there she was, my little Angel, Anna, waiting for me at the entryway, looking as adorable as ever.

Her legs were on display as she wore a blue dress that trailed down on the back, her hair in a clean updo bun, a few strands falling on the side of her face, and a princess crown lying on her head.

"You have no idea how long I've been waiting for you, Ser. You better have a decent excuse or I'm not going to talk to you again. "Anna said this while pouting the entire time.

"I'm sorry, my doll; I was just busy getting things done for you," I explained, trying to justify my sluggishness. "I couldn't even find a cab, and I had to look good, right? So I was preoccupied with getting ready... After all, it's my little girl's birthday, and it's not every day that a princess turns three.".

"You're sorry isn't going to work this time, Selena," Anna backed up, folding her hands and huffing.

"Don't you want to see what I got you for your birthday? And what about the doll cake I created just for Anna?" I attempted to change the subject.

"Really! Please show me where my gift and cake are," Anna shouted, her eyes gleaming with delight.

"And what about Can? I asked her to make chicken Alfredo; you know how much I love that, right?" She was curious.

"Oh, we've got that covered, your highness; here are the items you requested," I responded, handing her the box I'd purchased with her. "But Candice can't come today since she has a sermon to deliver; she sent her best wishes to you." Candice, I told her about my mother (we, as children of the orphanage, would like to address her).

"Come on, let us get you in and start celebrating right away." I took her hand in mine and went inside, fondling home.

The cake box was put in the center of the table, in the midst of the garden, where the actual birthday party would take place.

Beautifully adorned garden, plants neatly trimmed into various forms, and several balloons tied together to make an arch at the park entrance. The points where the curve meets the ground were lighted with light balloons, giving the impression that numerous stars were distributed on the floor.

The seats are covered in an off-white and blue-patterned material that is placed in a circle with red ribbons on top.

Trees are decorated with different colored mini LED lights wrapped around the tree trunk and blue birthday accessories hanging on them, and lampshades swing from the top.

A round glass table was placed in the center, with party poppers resting on the right side of the cake, which I had just set up, and birthday caps with various cartoons stamped on them.

We had numerous games prepared for the kids. I began unwrapping the cake, children joyfully around me, Anna grinning behind me, excitement as I set the Barbie cake on the table, next the doll with the words 'HAPPY BIRTHDAY ANNA' inscribed in bold script.

The celebration began, and everyone joyfully sang "Birthday Song" as Anna began slicing the cake.

"Happy birthday, Anna," she said as she closed her eyes and made a wish, a happy smile on her lips. She turned to face me as she opened her eyes. I began approaching her.

"Happy birthday, Anna. May you have a hundred birthdays like today and grow happier than the day before. The day you entered our life was one of the happiest moments. We love you."

I murmured, resting my palm on her cheek, tears in my eyes, as she leaned in for my touch and a delicate kiss on her forehead.

"Thank you, Selena; I'm not sure what I'd do without you in my life." Anna hugged me fiercely, on the edge of tears.

She sliced the cake and purchased it for me. I took a small bite and fed the rest to her. I gave her the gift I had purchased earlier and kissed her cheeks.

Everyone else joined us in a group hug. Smiling happily, and this was how I spread happiness the majority of the time.

The smiles on the orphans' faces make my day worthwhile and bring calm to my heart, something I need with all the negativity around me.
