Chapter 35: Remember The Number Eleven (4)

After Tiago and the rest of the team celebrated his goal, the referee called all of them to go back to their position and for the fourth time in the match, Saint-Malo kicked things off.

Like when Monaco went two-nil up in the first half, Saint-Malo immediately started dominating the proceedings of the game when Monaco B regained their two-goal cushion. This time though, the Monaco B players were determined not to sit around and watch their opponents play through them.

They pressed harder and were more organized and compact during defense. In fact, the only players who weren't sprinting like mad dogs were the three players that made up the front three.

In the first five minutes, after Saint-Malo took things off a notch, they had shared the same enthusiasm as the rest of their team, but a few minutes of wild sprinting had made their energy tanks go into reserve mode. Except there was a fast break happening, all of them doubted if something could happen during the match to make them start sprinting.

While Saint-Malo were in control of the match, Monaco would still occasionally try to wrestle control from them, which lead to the former having a few chances even though they were with the ball a lot.

After what seemed like an eternity passing around, Saint-Malo got their first big chance of the half.

The ball was with their right center back, who looked like he was just about to continue the cycle of recycling possession. All of a sudden, he hit the ball and sent a line breaking pass to the other side of the field, targeting his team's left back who had already started making a run for the ball.

The Saint-Malo fullback needed a couple of touches to get the ball under control, but once he did, he was off. He sprinted down the left flank like a mad man, a mad man that was surprisingly very fast with the ball.

In no time, he crossed the ball into the box, once again aiming for his team's striker who had put them in the lead with a header earlier in the match. The Saint-Malo striker, along with the Monaco B defenders rose in the air to meet the cross, but like before, the Saint-Malo striker managed to get his head to it.

Unfortunately for him, he couldn't steer his header on target, and watched in dismay as the ball went over the roof of the net.

["What a chance! What a chance that was! Saint-Malo have their first big chance of the match. Alexis Taipa (Saint-Malo left back) just went on a stunning run down the left flank. A couple of Monaco players tried to intercept him there, but once he was off, there was just no catching him. He's done well, and he's sent a cross into the penalty box for his team's striker. Vincent Crehin (Saint-Malo striker) did really well there to get to the ball, considering he was in the middle of the Monaco center backs, unfortunately he didn't do well enough, and the score-line remains three goals to one in the favor of Monaco"]

After that dangerous chance that was squandered by Saint-Malo, Monaco woke up and started fighting to get back into the match. In the next ten minutes, it turned from a nearly one-sided affair to a free for all. Shots were flying in both directions and the two goalkeepers on the pitch became very busy.

As the match drew closer and closer to full time, Saint-Malo got increasingly desperate to score a goal and abandoned their tactics. Their coach made offensive changes and once more, they started to press Monaco B, trying to half their lead.

Unfortunately for them, their desperateness to score a goal would be their downfall. A Monaco B defender intercepted a pass that was moving towards Vincent Crehin (Saint-Malo striker) and sent the ball straight towards Tiago who was a little advanced.

Tiago used a Busquets-turn to escape pressure from behind him and started driving forward. After a couple of steps he looked up and saw a familiar figure running like a mad dog on the left flank. Tiago then used the inside of his left boot to send a trivela pass to the left.

Tyler, who was making a dash for Tiago's pass, let out a groan when the ball went wider than he would've liked. He adjusted the trajectory of his run and got to the ball before it could go out of bounds for a throwing.

When he looked up, he saw that the Saint-Malo right back let another small sigh escape his lips. He knew that he would have to take the defender on, there was simply no escaping it.

He drove the ball towards the defender a bit, and flashed his leg over the ball, before faking a run out wide and then readjusting his body orientation and running towards the inside. Although his body feint didn't fool the defender for long, it gave him all the time he needed to run past him. A couple of seconds later, he was on the edge of the penalty box.

A couple of Saint Malo players had recovered and were waiting inside the penalty box, ready to take Tyler on when he inevitably dribbled into the box, but they waited in vain, because as Tyler drove forward, he had a crazy thought.

He stared longingly at the top corner of the far post and a few a split second of convincing himself, his leg struck the ball and he let a powerful shot rip towards the far post.

Although Tyler had targeted the top corner of the far post, it ricocheted off the shoulder of one of the Saint-Malo players in the box, wrongfooting the Saint-Malo goalkeeper who could only watch in dismay as the ball went into the back of the net.

["Good block by the defender, and he's just passed the ball away from danger, and it looks like Monaco will go on the counter. Tiago with the ball, and Tiago spots Tyler Wilson and sends a pass to the teenager. I think he knows he's overhit it there and Wilson might not even get- And Wilson's gotten the ball, but now he faces an obstacle. Very good bit of trickery from Tyler Wilson to get past his marker. Nice work from the teenager so far but there's still a couple of adversaries that he's going to need to over- Oh ! He hits it! And it's in! Brilliant! What a brilliant goal! Four goals for Monaco tonight! Three goals for Tyler Wilson! He's scored a hattrick! What a night he is having!"]

Tyler, who held his breath for a moment when he saw his shot deflected, heaved a sigh of relied and ran towards the corner flag and slid towards it, stretching his leg out, retracting it just before his boot hit the corner flag.

He thought of doing a Jamie Vardy, but he remembered at the last minute that he might have to pay for it after, and he wasn't rich enough for unnecessary bills like that.

A couple of seconds later, his teammates joined him in celebration, a few of them patting his back and ruffling his hair.

"That was a good goal". Tiago said as the pair walked back to their side of the pitch so that the match would be restarted.

"Thanks". Tyler muttered.

"Seriously though, I thought the counter was wasted the moment I saw my pass was a little bit off. Who would've expected you to shoot all the way from there?"

Tyler chuckled. "Even I didn't expect me to shoot all the way from there. I guess it kind of just happened".

After the two teams rearranged themselves, the referee blew his whistle to restart the match and once again, Saint-Malo kicked things off.

Even after Tyler scored his hattrick and Monaco's fourth of the match, Saint-Malo never stopped fighting. They pressed harder and worked hard to score their second goal of the match. Unfortunately for them, not every hard work gets rewarded. The ninetieth minute came around and the referee blew his whistle to signify that it was full time.

["That's it. The referee's whistle has gone off to signify a very very compelling match between two evenly matched sides. The score doesn't even begin to tell the story of this match. A match which, based on the football that was played here today, could've gone any way ends with one team utterly defeated. It ends here today, Monaco four, Saint-Malo one"]

A/N: Author here, and I need a little bit of feedback. Was this match too long or too short, and were there a few things that you didn't like when I was going through it.

Also, since this book has gotten contracted now, I can't continue with the old system so we have a new, improved one.
