Chapter 7: A night out.
After Chelsy left the café, where she had been embarrassed and insulted by Myra and Philippa, she could not handle the fact that she was being treated like an outcast. She rushed outside and boarded a taxi straight home.
Samuel and Rachel rushed outside the café, and couldn't find Chelsy. Rachel was so worried and angry at the same time. ''Uh. Chelsy, where the hell have you gone to?'' Rachel groaned while taking her phone out of her pocket. She dialed Chelsy's number, but she didn't pick up the call. She called twice again and there was still no response. She was getting frustrated, and sent Chelsy a text message. ''Sis, please where did you run off to? I hope you went straight home. Please text me back so that we can know you are okay.''
Samuel stood by Rachel, looking frustrated with anger after witnessing how Philippa and Myra treated Chelsy.
''Rachel, please let me know how Chelsy is doing once you have gotten in touch with her, okay? I am so worried about her.'' Rachel looked at him and relaxed her countenance. ''Don't worry Samuel, she will be fine. I guess we should just give her sometime to cool off.''
Samuel nodded, and asked Rachel if he could take her home? Rachel said no and that her driver would be picking her up.
When Chelsy got home, all she could do was weep while holding the necklace her dad had given her before he died. ''Dad, why did you choose to leave us in this wicked environment? I wish you were still here. I miss you so much every day. Why didn't you take me with you?'' Chelsy, sat crying at the foot of the bed while hugging her knees and burying her face in her knees.
Suddenly, there was a knock on the door, and she didn't answer. There came another knock and the door was suddenly pushed open.
Leonel walked into her room and saw her crying. He walked up to her, and gently placed his hand on her head. When she raised her head, her eyes were red, and her face was filled with tears. "What happened Chels?" Leonel called with so much concern in his voice.
Chels was the short form Leonel and their father used to call Chelsy when she was young. Now only those close to her call her that.
Chelsy could not speak and just cried while hugging her brother. After sometime, she calmed down and disengaged from the hug and looked at him. "Lenny, why am I so unlucky?"
Leonel looked at her and gave a gentle smile while using his thumb to clean the remaining tears that were left on her cheek. ''In life, we make our own luck through hard work. Just because you aren't lucky now, doesn't mean you will not be lucky in the future. So tell me. What happened?''
Chelsy looked at her brother, and stopped sobbing. She recounted everything that had happened and how she was replaced with Philippa for the Martin Lion conference. When Leonel heard this, he pulled Chelsy into an embrace and said, ''Chels, I know how smart and hardworking you are. The fact that you were replaced with someone else doesn't mean your ability and brains were taken from you. I am certain you will have bigger and even better opportunities in future, okay?''
Chelsy sniffled, and nodded. They disengaged from the hug and Leonel dipped his hand into his chest pocket and took out Chelsy's favorite candy and handed it over to her. ''I am sure this will brighten your mood.'' Leonel said with a chuckle.
When Chelsy saw this, she couldn't help but smile and said, "Lenny, I am no longer six years old." Leonel placed his hand on her head and said softly. ''Chels, you will always be my baby sister. No matter how old you are, I'll always treat you as such. So get up and go clean up. You look like you've aged a hundred years in one day.'' Chelsy jokingly slapped Leonel's hand and thanked him for cheering her up. He got up and walked to the door. "Chelsy, remember that you have a big brother that will always love you." Leonel smiled and closed the door behind him.
Chelsy, who had been feeling down earlier, felt much better after talking with her brother. She got up and went into the bathroom. She soaked herself in the bathtub and relaxed. After a long time in the bathtub, she came out feeling much better and went straight to bed.
The next morning, which was Saturday, Chelsy slept in and woke up at ten in the morning. She went into the bathroom and took a shower. She came back feeling energized. "Oh my gosh, Rachel." Chelsy murmured to herself. She remembered that she had switched off her phone and hadn't called her best friend. 'Rachel will definitely slaughter me.' She thought.
She quickly picked up her phone and turned it on. Rachel had left so many messages on Watsapp.
She dialed Rachel's number, and she answered on the second ring. ''Chelsy, where in the name of the spirits did you keep your fucking phone? Do you know how worried I was?'' Rachel spoke with a worried tone.
''I am so sorry Rach. I didn't mean to get you this worried. I just needed to sort out my emotions and didn't want to drag you into this mess.''
Rachel gave a big sigh at the other end of the line. "Chels, you don't know how worried Samuel and I were yesterday."
Chelsy's eyes widened, and she remembered she had left Samuel as well without saying anything. "Oh my gosh, Samuel. I feel awful to have left him like that without saying anything. It's really embarrassing Rach."
Rachel, on the other hand, humphed and said, ''I am sure he understands. By the way, Jade is around and we are going clubbing tonight. For your information, you are coming with us and don't even think of saying no.''
Jade was Rachel's fiancé, who was a lieutenant in the Army. ''Come on Rach, you know I am not good at dancing and alcohol. Besides, I don't want to be a third wheel with Jade around. You both always rub your love in my face.'' Chelsy said with a little laugh.
''Baby girl, I wasn't negotiating with you. We will be picking you up by eight pm. You had better be ready by then.'' Rachel spoke and hung up the call.
'With all that I have been through for the past two days, I think I need this distraction to keep my mind from going crazy.' Chelsy thought to herself.
It was eight pm. Rachel and Jade drove in a black G Wagon to Chelsy's house. Rachel sent Chelsy a text message. ''Baby girl, we are outside. You can come out already.'' Chelsy, who was wearing a high waist denim trousers, a strapless white crop top, and a black leather jacket, rushed out to meet them. "Hey Jade, it's nice seeing you."
Jade, who was seated in the driver's seat, turned and smiled at Chelsy and said.
"Hey Chels, nice seeing you too."
Rachel, who was seated at the front, said with a mischievous smile. ''Baby girl, look at those curves and that body. I don't know why you keep hiding this figure behind those boring clothes you wear to school every day.''
Chelsy didn't know whether she should laugh or cry at that point. Jade, who was already tired from the two girls chatting like weaver birds, asked if they were ready to go? And they both answered, "Yes sir." He gave a little chuckle, they drove off.
Will Chelsy be able to forget her troubles while at the club, or is there a bigger surprise waiting for her there?
