Unappreciated Treasure

Chapter 6: La Café

Chelsy left Mister Edward's office with tears streaming down her cheeks. Remembering what he had said in his office, she felt the tears falling more from her eyes.

She had been planning for this conference for months and spent sleepless nights ensuring she gathered the necessary information and data for her presentation. It was just rather unfortunate that all the data she had stressed gathering, and the hard work she had put in, would be handed over to someone else. Most especially to Philippa Clark, her long time enemy.

She felt as though a big lump was in her throat. She quickly cleaned the tears that were streaming down her eyes and stepped out of the office building. Chelsy decided to go to the little forest behind the university campus to have some quiet time. People hardly visited this place. So it was a quiet spot for her to just sit and settle her thoughts. She found a spot under one of the trees, and sat down. All she could do was cry.

Then, suddenly, she heard the sound of footsteps approaching from behind. She got so scared and held her breath. She slowly turned around and found someone standing behind her. When she saw who it was, Chelsy's jaws dropped and her eyes widened with surprise.

''Samuel!''

She exclaimed with her hand on her mouth.

''What are you doing here? When did you get back?''

Samuel Molando graduated over a year ago and moved to Manchester to take over his family business. He had come back to Wolverton for a business deal. He purposely went to Wolverton University to find Chelsy, the girl he had always been in love with. The day he realized Chelsy was dating Ken Roberts, he felt as if the walls came crashing on him. He had cried for months, and decided to let her go.

He looked at Chelsy and smiled.

''I went to the university to see the dean because I have some business with him. Then I saw you walking here and I followed you. What are you doing here all alone? It's dangerous out here.''

He looked closer into Chelsy's face and furrowed his brows.

''Were you crying?''

He asked.

Chelsy could smell the fresh aromatic woody fragrance coming from him, and she quickly shook her head and stuttered.

"Erm , no… no. I just had an allergic reaction to something I ate. So my eyes got a little watery and red.''

Samuel knew she was not telling the truth and decided not to probe further.

''Anyway, I am in town till Monday. Would you like to go out for a cup of coffee with me later?''

Chelsy didn't know why she felt uncomfortable going out for a cup of coffee with him. Yes, he used to like her in the past, but that was 4 years ago when she was still a first year undergraduate student.

''Please don't say no. I know I used to like you in the past, but could we just go out as friends? You could bring Rachel along if you feel uncomfortable.''

When he said that, Chelsy's countenance relaxed, and she said okay. She took out her phone and called Rachel, and Rachel answered on the second ring.

''Hey baby girl, are you done with your supervisor?''

Chelsy nodded as if Rachel could see her and answered.

''Yes Rachel. Are you busy now?''

Rachel, with her usual goofy nature, replied.

''No ma'am. Which bank are we robbing?''

Chelsy couldn't help but smile.

''I guess we are robbing the World Bank this time around. So better get ready with your ammunition. Can we please meet at the university's entrance?''

Rachel replied with a deep quirky voice.

"Yes ma'am."

LSamuel and Chelsy walked to the university's entrance and waited for Rachel. A few minutes later, Rachel joined them.

''My oh my.''

Rachel said with a smile on her face.

'' Samuel! Is this really you? When did you get back? Manchester has definitely transformed you from Loki to Thor in one year.''

Samuel could not help but laugh out loud.

''It is nice seeing you too, Rachel.''

Chelsy cleared her throat with a smile and said. ''Rach, Samuel would like to take us out for a cup of coffee. Is that okay with you?''

Rachel looked up at Chelsy and nodded with an affirmative smile.

''As long as the coffee is free, Rachel is on the case.''

The three of them chuckled and moved to Samuel's car. They drove to ''La Café,'' a famous coffee shop which was situated in downtown Wolverton. It was on the fourth floor of a tall building. When they got there, they were directed to sit at the window, which had the best view of the streets.

As they placed their orders and started chatting, they talked and reminisced about their undergraduate years.

Suddenly, Philippa and Myra, who were also walking into the café, spotted them. Philippa Clark and Myra Roberts were actually the best of friends. They had been best friends since elementary school. The duo were hot snobs with very sour characters when they opened their mouths to speak. They both loved crossing the line when it came to arguments and putting others down. They believed that when it came to beauty and fashion, they didn't have a rival.

The two girls walked up the Chelsy, Samuel and Rachel.

''I can see you are handling your disqualification much better than I expected.''

Philippa said in a condescending manner. Chelsy clenched her fist under the table and just looked at Philippa with eyes full of fury.

''What is this old hag talking about?''

Rachel asked with her eyes spitting fire and brimstone. Chelsy had always been one to control her emotions when it came to confrontations. She would normally walk away from fights. She sat down and pressed her lips together, trying to hold in her anger.

''I am sure your little duckling here didn't tell you that her position as the University's representative for the Martin Lion conference was handed over to me.''

Myra, had been standing by Philippa's side, smirked and said.

''I am sure she must have slept with someone to have obtained that position in the first place. Thank goodness their eyes are now open, and they can clearly see she is not worthy of that position.''

Rachel, who could not hold it anymore, stood up and shouted at Myra.

''Myra, you better close that, pie hole in your face called mouth, before I shut it for you. Have you forgotten this is your brother's girlfriend, you are badmouthing like that? If I hear you talking to my friend like that, I will plaster that mouth of yours with hot cement."

Myra just rolled her eyes and replied.

''Oh please. Spare me that nonsense.''

Chelsy, who sat down with tears streaming down her face, could not handle all this. She stood up and ran out of the café. Rachel stood and ran after her.

''Chelsy wait.''

Samuel, who had watched everything, stood up and looked at Philippa. With eyes showing contempt, he walked towards her and muttered.

''Disgusting.''

He turned around, and walked away.

Philippa stood there looking stunned and felt as though her heart had been pricked by a thousand needles. She had always been in love with Samuel, but he didn't even spare her a glance. Myra held Philippa's hand and said.

''Just forget about this Samuel guy. He is not worth it.''

Philippa's countenance was pale and they both walked to their table and sat down.

Myra looked at Philippa and said.

"look Philippa, you have to forget about this Samuel guy. As for Chelsy, I will make sure my brother deals with her. She doesn't know what awaits her."

Myra gave a devilish smile and tugged her hair behind her ears.

''Anyway, I have a proposal for you.''

She spoke and moved closer to whisper into Philippa's ear. They both had a malicious smile on their faces.

What did Myra whisper into Philippa's ear? Does it have anything to do with Chelsy?
