Chapter 47
After Rainbow logged out, I also closed the Legends of League client.
In just today alone, I’d already played 7 games, and with Rainbow absent, I didn’t feel like trying solo rank right now.
“I could play to avoid Rainbow, but… that would defeat the purpose.”
If I were just aiming for a simple 2000 points, there would be no need to cater to the duo of Rainbow and Yoon-ki who had declared a sniping mission against me.
They were current pros with schedules to keep, and if they wanted to avoid the limited time of solo rank, they could do it easily.
However,
What I aimed for wasn’t just a simple 2000 points.
I would soar in Legends of League, defeating the true strong players and achieving recognition from everyone.
I wouldn’t let anyone dare to spout nonsensical words like it’s a vacant house.
Overwhelmingly and destructively.
That was how I would wrap things up as a Prisoner.
“Let’s call it a day for now.”
So, I planned to align my journey towards 2000 points with Rainbow.
Rainbow and Yoon-ki.
If you were to ask who the best Mid and Jungle players in the world are, they’d definitely be at the top of the list.
Moreover, Rainbow is celebrated as a two-time Red Cup champion Mid Laner, the best in history.
There’s plenty of symbolism there.
I would use them as my offering on my journey to 2000 points.
They are noteworthy offerings that no one enjoying Legends of League could ignore.
“Ugh.”
I played non-stop for a whopping 9 hours without even going to the bathroom.
Stretching out, I heard cracks echoing from my bones.
“Oh, was that not bone-cracking but muscle-tearing noises?”
Either way, it wasn’t a major concern.
As I lifted the blinds, which had kept me trapped in darkness for so long, a bright light poured in that felt surreal compared to my memories.
“Ugh… my eyes.”
Since I woke up from my bed at 2 AM, it was naturally well past lunchtime now.
“It’s a little early to go back to sleep.”
Sure, I could just lie down to rest, but after lying down for 4 days straight just a few hours ago, I didn’t feel like doing that.
What should I do? As I pondered for a moment, I stepped outside after a few days.
The bathroom was attached to my room, and my meals were prepared by my mother, so there hadn’t been any need to leave my room for 4 days.
“Typical hermit life.”
Well… that wasn’t so different from my daily life.
“Yujin.”
When I finally stepped into the living room, my mother, vacuuming, greeted me.
“What about food? Do you want to eat now?”
“Mom, it’s fine to eat after you’re done cleaning.”
“No, I’ll get it ready right away.”
For lunch, there was kimchi stew with pork, fried eggs, and various side dishes.
Clatter, clatter—
“So good.”
Truly, this was the official rice thief for Koreans.
While I was deeply engrossed in my meal, my mother sat down across from me.
“Are you busy after you eat?”
“Um, not particularly?”
“Good. Then let’s go somewhere together for a bit.”
A sudden sense of dread crept in.
“…Where to?”
“We’re moving soon. You should at least see the house we’re deciding on.”
Oh right, that was happening.
Though it was because of me, I had completely forgotten about it until now.
To be honest, I didn’t want to leave this house.
It wasn’t particularly uncomfortable here, and more than that, the layout had been perfectly suited to me back in the day.
But since this was all for my sake, it would be unjust for me to complain.
“…But, is my opinion really needed?”
Throughout my life, I’ve hardly ever made my own decisions.
It was the same for this house as well.
In short, I wasn’t the type of person to do things on my own.
“You have to decide on your room’s furniture arrangement now. Or should I just do it for you? No complaining later?”
At that, I involuntarily flinched.
“Ugh.”
To be honest, I wasn’t completely satisfied with my room layout up to now.
For example, my desk was facing away from the door, which made me feel uneasy every time I used my computer.
From what I gathered, it was said to be quite poor feng shui…
Until now, I couldn’t change that layout because of how I lived in a wheelchair, but the situation had changed now.
This opportunity could indeed be quite good.
“Hmm.”
I leaned towards the idea of going out instead of contemplating my dilemma.
Of course, even considering everything, it wasn’t easy to agree to go out.
The biggest reason was simple.
“…It’s too much work.”
Those who haven’t experienced how much resolve it takes for a hermit to go outside wouldn’t understand.
Still, my mother was resolute.
“Are we going?”
“Ugh.”
Reluctantly, I agreed.
“…Alright.”
Getting ready to go out was straightforward.
As usual, I threw on my hoodie, layered it with a cap and a long padded coat, and that was it.
“…Wearing that again?”
“Why? It’s comfy and nice.”
“I bought you so many clothes… never mind, let’s go.”
I wasn’t as scared of going outside as I used to be.
Maybe it was because I felt a bit pent-up after lying around for 4 days, or perhaps some change had occurred within me without my realizing it.
Even though the seasons were about to change, the weather was still cold due to the lingering winter chill.
Of course, with my sturdy gear, it wasn’t that cold, though.
“I might have gotten used to the cold.”
Or maybe it was just the warm air from the car heater.
Either way, it wasn’t a particularly important issue.
“Here we are.”
The place we arrived at after driving was a luxury apartment in Jongno.
Even from a distance, the towering apartment was enough to make me catch my breath.
[SY Palace]
As expected of the top conglomerate SY in South Korea, their name was visible even here.
There was no place they didn’t fit in.
“But this place seems expensive…”
Suddenly, I recalled something I had once told my parents.
“Moving house? I don’t really care about the house, but I’d love it if it’s in Jongno…”
The reason was simple.
The Legends of League arena was right there, which meant many of the Korean teams’ accommodations were also nearby.
After becoming a woman, I often contemplated what would happen after I debut as a pro.
I figured it would be hard to live like other players since I’d probably have to commute, thus it’d be best if the house was close to the accommodation.
That was my reasoning back then.
But I never expected my parents would prioritize my opinions like this.
“…Is it really okay?”
“It’s fine. It’s not that far from Dad’s company. It’s perfect for commuting. In fact, it’s closer than before!”
“Really?”
Well, that was a relief.
The apartment complex had common facilities like convenience stores, gyms, saunas, and cafeterias, plus a separate swimming pool and even a movie theater.
I thought I even heard there was a golf course, which made me question whether this was a typical apartment by my standards.
“Here we are.”
Did she receive a card key in advance? My mom proceeded inside without hesitation.
The guards seemingly recognized my mother, or perhaps they had received prior notice, as they didn’t stop us.
It was a strange sight.
After taking the elevator, we arrived at the top floor of the apartment, the penthouse.
Stunned by the view of the Han River through the hallway window, I quickly snapped back to reality and said,
“Mom.”
“Yeah? What’s up?”
“Are we rich?”
“We’re not poor.”
Most people living in places like this probably weren’t lacking in funds.
I knew there was some financial leeway at home.
However, I didn’t know the specifics.
I had simply never been curious.
“Are we richer than I thought?”
Suddenly, I felt an impulse to ask my dad to create a gaming organization for me.
“…That might be a bit excessive?”
I shook my head.
Running a team isn’t something achievable with a couple of bucks. No matter how wealthy we are, it’s absurd to reach out for that.
“For now, I’m thinking of your room being that one on the 2nd floor—want to take a look? If you don’t like it, we can change it to another one. Oh, that glass room is off-limits; it was like a battle to secure that one for our younger sibling…”
“Got it.”
The younger sibling seemed to have been one step ahead and had already claimed their room.
It didn’t look like there’d be much left for me anyway, so I wasn’t too disappointed.
I followed my mother up the stairs leading to my room.
“Here it is.”
The room was completely empty.
It seemed the previous occupant had either moved out or already taken all their belongings.
“What do you think?”
“It’s nice.”
Even though it was quite spacious without any furniture, it still felt like a satisfying room.
It even had a separate bathroom, and the view from the window leading to the balcony was stunning.
“Hmm.”
Of course, while taking in that view, the only thought that crossed my mind was the need to install blackout blinds.
“I hate sunlight.”
If my mother found out, she’d be horrified, so I kept that thought to myself.
“A new room…”
I started to envision where I might place my desk and how many monitors I might need.
“I guess this is where I’ll be starting anew.”
Now, that beginning was not far off.
