Trembling At A High Altitude

Chapter 757: The 1076-1077th Chapters: Rock-Paper-Scissors

"You're going too far with this!" the white woman told the white man who was busying himself leaning over.

"I was trying to save her. I thought doing this might wake her up," the white man defended.

"But from what I see, she's getting weaker under your manhandling. Can you stop it?" the white woman called out the white man's lies.

"Anyway… Anyway, she's about to die, so why not make use of her while we can!" the white man continued to make excuses as he manhandled her.

Under the white man's rough treatment, Kawashima Fangfang, already at death's door, became even weaker.

Finally, amidst the white man's fury, Kawashima Fangfang, like a small boat in a storm's waves, completely sank to the ocean floor, stopping her breath.

"Awesome." The white man stood up, his expression one of complete satisfaction.

Kawashima Fangfang, like a pile of trash, was kicked aside to the curb by him.

"How much time has passed? Five people have turned into three," the white woman said with deep concern.

"Don't worry! Stick with me, and you'll definitely live longer." The white man still had two game coins he got from the black man and wasn't worried at all.

On the other side of the amusement park, which seemed to be the direction where Li Teng and his two companions were, a thunderous roar was heard, followed by the earth shaking.

Some of the standing visitors started to sway.

"What's happened over there?" the three on this side couldn't help but feel alarmed.

...

An hour earlier.

Eight people split into two groups, one group of five and another of three.

Li Teng, Yang Shunli, and Aila, the group of three, chose a different direction from the other five and entered the amusement park.

Unlike the other five, who entered the high-thrill rides area of the amusement park.

Li Teng, Yang Shunli, and Aila, however, entered the children's play area.

Unlike the high-thrill rides area which had roller coasters, pendulum rides, and pirate ship rides, the children's play area's attractions were not thrilling at all.

The first thing they encountered was a carousel.

Although much larger than the ones typically found in amusement parks, with much greater undulations and faster speed, according to observation, sitting on it should in no way be associated with the word thrilling.

Then there was the little train, a colorful one weaving through hills not exceeding five meters in height.

There was also the Journey to the West boat ride, with a backdrop of the Journey to the West story. Sitting in a small boat, guests would traverse water curtains and dragon palaces among cartoonish buildings, with variously shaped monsters from Journey to the West standing alongside.

And there were tea cups, little airplanes, hot air balloons, and various other children's rides.

The visitors in the children's area were mostly parents with children. Some were family units of three, others were mothers with their children, and of course, some were grandmothers or grandmas who had brought their kids to play.

The still images looked somewhat eerie, yet the children's screams were continuous.

The operation of the amusement rides was also continuous.

If you didn't pay attention to these static visitors, you would feel like you truly were in a bustling amusement park.

The three's main task now was to find Amusement Gold Coins.

To Li Teng, it felt a bit like playing arcade games as a child.

One needed game coins to continue playing.

These Amusement Gold Coins were just like those game coins of the past.

"Hello, would you like to play with bubbles?"

Just as they were exploring and moving forward, a vendor's voice suddenly came from the side of the road.

The vendor was holding a bubble tube, a toy capable of creating lots of bubbles.

"Is he talking to us?" Aila asked Li Teng and Yang Shunli.

"How do we play?" Li Teng tried asking the merchant.

"After midnight, I will come to find you," the merchant replied to Li Teng, his voice as if whispering right into Li Teng's ear.

"After I asked him 'How do we play,' did you guys hear his response?" Li Teng furrowed his brow and asked Aila and Yang Shunli next to him.

"No," both shook their heads.

"It's already late at night, so if you have something to say, you can tell me now," Li Teng leaned in close to the merchant and whispered to him.

'Ding Dong!'

A game coin fell out from the bag behind the merchant and rolled onto the ground.

Li Teng quickly picked it up.

It was identical to the gold coin he already had in his hand—an Amusement Gold Coin!

What luck! The hard search came to an effortless end!

"Right, we agreed to determine the owner of the coin through rock-paper-scissors, didn't we?" Li Teng remembered the agreement from earlier and asked the other two.

"Mhm mhm," Aila and Yang Shunli quickly agreed.

It didn't matter to them that Li Teng found the coin; besides, Li Teng was the most physically robust. If Li Teng refused to follow the rules they had agreed upon, they couldn't do much about it.

But Li Teng didn't seem to want to bully them.

"Shall the three of us play together?" Li Teng confirmed the rules.

"We'll play together, eliminating one person first, then the other two will play for the win," Aila nodded her head.

With that settled, they began to play rock-paper-scissors.

All three hands shot out swiftly.

In the instant they extended their hands, Li Teng saw two of Yang Shunli's fingers twitch, while Aila didn't seem like she was going to move her fingers at all.

Without a doubt, Yang Shunli played scissors, and Aila played rock.

Ordinary people didn't possess such keen observation skills or fast reaction times.

With over a thousand years of training, Li Teng's reflexes didn't fail him, and he decided to throw rock in that instant.

Because his reaction was quick and he played fast, Li Teng's rock even managed to precede the others', and they couldn't tell that Li Teng had waited to see their hands before throwing his own.

Yang Shunli was eliminated.

Then, it was between Li Teng and Aila for the win.

In the moment Aila played, Li Teng saw that it was paper.

So, striking with anticipation, he played scissors.

Li Teng won undisputedly, securing the first Amusement Gold Coin.

Was that cheating?

Li Teng thought the question was rather complex and not easy to answer.

"Could he have more Amusement Gold Coins on him?" Aila looked at the merchant with a hesitant expression.

Li Teng remained silent, feeling that the fall of the gold coin was probably related to his recent conversation with the merchant.

Would forcing a search on these merchants and tourists trigger some sort of trap?

If Aila wanted to try, Li Teng wouldn't object. After all, someone always had to be the cannon fodder.

"That… that… that... Stay away! Stay back!"

Yang Shunli suddenly started screaming in horror, looking in a certain direction.

Li Teng and Aila followed the direction Yang Shunli was looking.

From afar, they saw a woman in white, a ghost who was mingling with the tourists and looking their way.

The next moment, it floated behind the amusement facility and vanished from sight.

"I didn't do it on purpose... I didn't do it on purpose..." Yang Shunli crouched down, hugged his head with both hands, and muttered to himself in agony.

"What did you just see?" Li Teng found Yang Shunli's behavior somewhat strange.

Yang Shunli kept silent, and it took a while before he calmed down and stood up, but he still didn't seem to want to talk much.

"What did you just see?" Li Teng asked Aila.

"I saw a woman in white, a ghost," Aila answered Li Teng.

"What did it look like? Did you get a good look?" Li Teng asked further.

"Didn't you see it?" Aila was a bit surprised.

"My eyesight isn't very good, and it moved too fast, I didn't see it," Li Teng shook his head.

"It's hard to say exactly, I only glanced at it, and I was quite nervous at the time... It seemed rather plump, with red eyes and a white face... or maybe, it was wearing a mask?" Aila recalled carefully.

The ghost had flashed by, and Aila soon recovered from the shock.

Then, her attention returned to the vendor.

A moment ago, after Li Teng whispered a few words to the vendor, he received an Amusement Gold Coin. Could it be that the vendor had more of these coins?

After hesitating for a while, Aila still did not search the vendor.

It seemed too risky, almost like courting death.

She would try again when the next vendor appeared.

Anyway, if Li Teng found another coin, it would be her and Yang Shunli's turn to share.

Aila was cautious and did not randomly search the vendors and tourists; Yang Shunli, who was out of sorts the whole time, did not search them either.

Since these two cannon fodders didn't make such a suicidal attempt, Li Teng naturally wouldn't either.

"You two are from the same country, right? Did you know each other before?" Aila started a conversation with Li Teng.

"I did a mission with him once, but we're not very close," Li Teng glanced at Yang Shunli.

In the last mission, Yang Shunli had abandoned his girlfriend and run off by himself. Although he survived, he was tormented by guilt and looked completely spent.

"Did anything happen to you before you entered the prison? Do you know why you're here?" Aila touched on a topic that everyone in prison would typically discuss.

Yang Shunli remained silent.

"What about you? Start with your story," Li Teng hadn't made up his mind yet.

"Well... I come from a rather wealthy family, so I suppose I'm a rich second generation.

Several years ago, I met a handsome hairdresser. We got along well, and later on, we got married.

I had a son, and the three of us were very happy. With my support, my husband started a business.

He was very busy, so to care for our son and manage the household, he hired a nanny through an acquaintance.

The nanny was plump and seemed honest and straightforward.

I was always nice to her, but one night, out of nowhere, she went crazy and attacked me with a kitchen knife. She struck my neck, and blood sprayed out uncontrollably, even my hands couldn't stem the flow...

After that, my consciousness began to fade, and when I woke up, I found myself in prison.

I can't make heads or tails of it. If I ever get the chance to return to the real world, I must find out why the nanny attacked me with a knife," Aila showed a face filled with confusion and resentment.

"The nanny your husband hired through an acquaintance?" Li Teng asked.

"Mm," Aila nodded.

"Was your husband very poor before?" Li Teng asked again.

"He… didn't have much money before," Aila laughed.

"Is he very handsome?"

"Yes."

"Do you love him?"

"I love him so much. Just thinking about spending so many more days with him in the future makes me feel incredibly happy. I never expected that happiness to come to such an abrupt end," Aila sighed deeply, her face filled with sorrow.

"He's always very busy and has no time to be with you, right?"

"How did you know?"

"You'd better not go back to investigate the truth. If you find out what really happened, you might not be able to bear it," Li Teng said indifferently.

"Why?" Aila wondered.

"Have you ever considered that your death might have been caused by him hiring someone to kill you?" Li Teng reminded Aila.

"How could that be? You really don't understand my husband. He's a really good person, handsome and with a great personality, one of the rare good people in the world. Don't slander him like that," Aila got a bit angry.

Li Teng smiled and said no more.

Having lived for over a thousand years and traveled through various Scripted Worlds, experiencing different lives and observing all manners of human conduct.

After a simple chat with Aila, Li Teng could almost deduce what was going on with this matter.

There is no love or hatred without reason in life.

If a poor boy falls in love with a Rich Girl, and if the Rich Girl is mediocre-looking, the poor boy's love is mostly for the Rich Girl's wealth.

Once he gets his hands on that money and gains control over the wealth, the Rich Girl becomes an obstacle that the poor boy needs to remove to live his ideal life.

Extra-marital affairs might also be involved in this.

For a woman who always believed she was living in love and happiness, such a cruel reality is simply unbearable.

Except for some naive young men, most men's love for women is for money or to satisfy certain desires. When these two things are no longer obtainable from their current partner or they seek more excitement, the partner becomes an annoying hindrance.

She must be gotten rid of swiftly.

Pushed off a cliff, dismembered and flushed down the drain, burned to death, stuffed into a refrigerator...

All sorts of shocking methods.

Therefore, most women who become housewives and continue to live well should be thankful for the mercy of their husbands not killing them.

Aila would likely be no exception.

Originally wanting to hear Li Teng's story, to find out why he had been put in prison, and what had happened before that, Aila's mood had been utterly ruined by Li Teng's words, and she no longer wanted to continue the conversation.

The three of them fell silent, focusing their attention on the search for Amusement Gold Coins.

The night grew deeper.

Despite searching many places, even resorting to frisking vendors and tourists, they couldn't find any more Amusement Gold Coins.

Li Teng felt that something was off.

He had several ideas in his mind, but which one it could be specifically required various pieces of evidence to confirm his suspicions.

After searching for a while longer, the three faced the same difficulty that the other five had encountered.

They began to feel sleepy, hungry, and exhausted.

According to the rules, it was time to take a ride on one of the park's attractions.
