Chapter 257: Rehabilitation Center (3660 Photos)
Startled like that, the actresses were having trouble sleeping.
After a long period of persuasion by Li Teng, the actresses finally laid down to sleep again.
By around one o'clock, the night shift personnel switched to Huang Tingting and Fan Wendie.
Elsa specifically instructed them to keep an eye on the number of people in the beds at all times and to wake the others immediately if something seemed off, but not to scream like Yang Yiju did.
No more unusual incidents occurred after that.
At four o'clock, Elsa and Wang Min took over from Huang Tingting and Fan Wendie. Wang Min considerately let Elsa continue to sleep, saying she would wake her up if any unexpected situation arose.
Elsa reluctantly declined for a bit and then went back to sleep.
...
Li Teng slept well and woke up feeling refreshed in the morning.
The actresses also got up one after another.
After washing up, they started to prepare breakfast.
With daylight, it felt much safer, and the actresses were not as scared as they had been the night before.
After breakfast, Li Teng decided to investigate the psychiatric hospital to figure out what exactly was going on with these plot elements and then find a way to get everyone off the deserted island alive.
Currently, there wasn't much to go on.
The only clue was the fifth female student.
Her cause of death might be the key to unlocking all the mysteries of the island.
Hearing about the trip to the psychiatric hospital, the actresses were somewhat frightened.
When Li Teng suggested going alone, they were still scared, worried that the female ghost would come for them once Li Teng left.
Even though it was broad daylight, it didn't mean the female ghost wouldn't appear.
Last night, the ghost had shown herself in front of everyone, which indicated that she was hiding in the house, making them feel very unsafe there.
For some reason, they all had this vague feeling that only Li Teng could keep the female ghost at bay, and if he wasn't with them, they might fall prey to her.
The investigation of the psychiatric hospital was imperative.
Without it, they couldn't find any leads or a way to leave the place.
In the end, everyone decided to go with Li Teng to the psychiatric hospital.
It was a common plot device in horror movies: sticking with the majority was always the right choice.
Under Li Teng's leadership, everyone left the glass villa and followed the path behind it up the mountain.
Swimsuits were inconvenient to wear, and since they didn't find any other suitable clothes, everyone left wearing the same grey-white nightgowns as the night before.
The mountain wasn't high, only a few dozen meters tall.
So, the mountain path was quite smooth, barely distinguishable from walking on flat ground if you didn't look closely.
Li Teng led the way at the front of the group, with Liu Yin following him closely. The other actresses, holding hands in pairs, bolstered each other's courage as they followed behind.
There were forests or shrubs as tall as a person on both sides of the mountain path, and the surroundings were eerily quiet, constantly giving the feeling that at any moment, a monster might charge out from either side of the road.
When a person is scared, no matter where they are or what they're doing, they will be scared.
But in Li Teng's case, being fearless, no matter where he was or what he was doing, he would not feel scared.
His calmness gradually affected the others, and the sound of conversation began to emerge from the walking group. Eventually, even laughter and cheerful voices could be heard, slowly dissipating the initial fear the actresses had felt when they first set out.
Finally, under Li Teng's guidance, everyone arrived at the gates of the psychiatric hospital.
The words written on the gates of the psychiatric hospital were not "psychiatric hospital," but "Severe Paranoia Personality Research Rehabilitation Center."
The black-and-white photos they had received earlier were fuzzy, and the words on them were not clear, but the meaning of these few words seemed to still be related to a psychiatric hospital.
The gates of the rehabilitation center were open.
Li Teng led the actresses straight in.
After entering the lobby, a doctor in a white coat came to greet them.
"May I ask... what... brings you here?" the doctor asked Li Teng carefully.
"We've come to conduct an investigation," Elsa told the doctor.
The doctor did not respond to Elsa, but continued to look at Li Teng.
"We've come to investigate," Li Teng repeated to the doctor.
"Oh?" The doctor's face took on an odd expression.
"This way, please." The doctor gestured with his hand to Li Teng and then began to lead the way.
After a few steps, he realized Li Teng had not followed and stopped to wait for him.
The actresses all looked towards Li Teng.
"Follow him," Li Teng said to everyone, and then lifted his foot and followed the doctor.
Upon entering the corridor of the wards, many of the doors to the rooms were wide open with no one inside, and various objects were scattered on the ground, as if someone had recently moved things out.
Everyone followed the doctor through twists and turns in the corridor until they arrived outside a large room.
"Inside, please." Standing at the door, the doctor did not go in but merely gestured for Li Teng to enter.
Li Teng looked inside and quickly realized something was not quite right.
Inside the large room, seven or eight patients freely milled about. These patients were dressed in the same grey-white pajamas as the eight actors currently wore— even the styles were identical.
"Have you mistaken us for patients?" Li Teng turned and looked at the doctor.
"No, no, you... you came to investigate, right? You can move around and communicate freely here," the doctor shrugged.
Li Teng scrutinized the large room. The windows were open without any metal bars, and the door to the room was unlocked, and being a wooden one, it seemed unlikely to be a trap that they couldn't escape from.
"After we finish our investigation, where can we find you?" Li Teng asked the doctor.
Since there were several patients here, he decided to start by looking for clues from these patients and then talk to the doctors. In the normal routine of a horror thriller, clues were usually held by psychiatric patients.
"If you go back the way you came in, you'll see an office. If I'm not there, someone will tell you where to find me," the doctor pointed behind himself.
"Alright then, you go ahead and get busy," Li Teng didn't say anything else.
"Enjoy your time here," the doctor replied to Li Teng before walking away.
"Doesn't this doctor seem a bit odd? He seems like he only wants to talk to you," Elsa said to Li Teng, eyeing the doctor's retreating figure.
"Never mind him. Let's first investigate these patients and see if we can find some new clues." Li Teng walked into the large room, and the others followed him in.
"Yo! Back already? Where have you been these past few days? Seems like I haven't seen you for a couple of days," a patient greeted Li Teng with a smile as he approached.
"You know me?" Li Teng eyed the patient.
