Trembling At A High Altitude

Chapter 253: Protection (1st Update for Monthly Pass)

Whether or not the fifth girl could enter was one thing, but the actresses in the house were already petrified as they saw the fifth girl taking steps toward the glass wall.

The screams were so intense that Li Teng had to cover his ears.

"Stop shouting! If screaming could drive her away, I would join you, alright?"

Li Teng bellowed a few times and finally managed to calm the situation.

The fifth girl step by step reached the glass wall, placed her hands on the glass, and leaned her face forward to look at everyone in the room.

The actresses were terrified and didn't dare to scream, huddling together as if that would make them safer.

After watching for a while, Li Teng walked towards the fifth girl at the glass wall.

As he got closer, he checked his wristwatch.

"Unknown algorithm detected."

"Time required to break this algorithm…"

"Approximately 300 to 900 years…"

The Death God APP popped up a notification.

"Hmm, 300 years, I'd have turned to ash, no, to atoms by then," Li Teng knew he really couldn't rely on the Death God APP anymore.

Li Teng carefully approached the glass wall and observed the fifth girl from the other side, her hands on the wall, her face close to the glass.

He finally saw her face clearly.

She had no face at all; her entire face resembled a gray fog, with chaotic black spots swirling within, invoking an incomprehensible sense of deep fear in anyone who looked closely.

It was like standing on the shore watching a vortex in the water.

The actresses, especially the five new ones, felt their hearts rise to their throats upon seeing this.

They worried that the next moment, the fifth girl would suddenly pass through the glass wall and, in front of everyone, grind Li Teng into the ground.

After seeing the face of the fifth girl, Li Teng took a closer look at her hands resting on the outside of the glass wall; her hands were grayish-white with many eerie black spots as well.

At one moment, Li Teng seemed to think of something.

But he wasn't sure.

"Beauty, why don't you come in and have dinner with us? How about a candlelit dinner together?" Li Teng tried inviting the fifth girl.

The actresses huddled together in the room nearly fainted when they heard what Li Teng had just said.

That was a ghost, for heaven's sake! With so many beautiful girls in the house, why flirt with that ghost!

What if she really came in?

Li Teng's words seemed to have an effect, or perhaps it was something else, but the body of the fifth girl outside the glass wall gradually blurred, slowly turning into a grey mist with numerous black dots swirling inside, and then, she disappeared from outside the glass wall.

"It seems she doesn't want to harm anyone," Li Teng walked back and said to the actresses huddled in the hall.

"Senior, aren't you scared? She's a ghost!" one of the actresses couldn't help but ask Li Teng.

"I have seen more terrifying ghosts than her. Ordinary people are powerless against ghosts. If she really wanted to kill us, what good would being afraid do? Would fear make her show mercy? Impossible. So, there's no need to be afraid, just do what we need to do," Li Teng answered her.

The women found Li Teng's words convincing and could not refute them.

"Alright, let's continue cooking. Aren't you all hungry?" Li Teng herded the actresses toward the kitchen.

Although the women were scared, they had no better options at that moment and grouped together again to return to the kitchen to start preparing dinner.

"There's no problem with the ingredients, right?" Elsa whispered to Li Teng.

"Hard to say. We could also choose not to eat, to starve and then lack the energy to do anything," Li Teng likewise remained noncommittal. The current situation was such that the director hadn't given any effective clues or plot events, and it was unclear how the story would unfold.

From the clues collected so far, it seemed they first had to solve a puzzle, and only by solving the puzzle could they successfully escape.

Surviving and escaping from here was definitely the ultimate goal of this script.

The puzzle, of course, was to figure out where the fifth girl came from.

The answer might be in the psychiatric hospital on the mountain.

"Let's do this, I'll have them eat first. If they're okay after about ten minutes, then you and Little Bunny can eat. At this point, anyone here could be in danger, but not you," Elsa quietly suggested to Li Teng. She was putting all her hopes of survival on Li Teng, so of course, she had to ensure Li Teng was safe first.

"Okay, go arrange it," Li Teng glanced at Elsa, noting that this woman had grown from her experiences in the Film and Television City and had started to think things through.

The actresses finished preparing the food, but some of them voiced concerns about whether the ingredients might be problematic, given everything was too eerie.

Once this issue was raised, others began hesitating, realizing that Li Teng and Liu Yin were still sitting in the living room talking and had shown no intention of joining them for the meal.

"The food should be fine, but it's better if someone tastes it first. How about this, you five draw lots to decide who will test it," Elsa firmly took charge.

The five actresses looked at one another, none too willing.

"You want our protection, but you don't want to do anything or take any risks. Where in the Film and Television City do you get such a good deal? Just now, when that female ghost charged at us, wasn't it he who stood up and chased the ghost away? Did he think of his own safety then? Now it's your turn to do something with almost no risk, and you all turn into turtles drawing into their shells? And you still expect us to protect you?" Elsa scolded them loudly.

"Elsa is so impressive. Maybe I should join the tasting raffle to make it fair?" Liu Yin murmured to Li Teng.

"Don't worry about it, let her handle it. Where in the world is everything fair?" Li Teng shook his head.

Elsa was already a low-level supervisor in a company, managing a few new actresses would not be a problem.

"No need for a draw, I'll go first. If nothing happens to me, then you all can eat," a new actress sat down at the table and began to eat with her chopsticks.

"Hmm, you are very brave. We won't ask you to do risky things afterward and will take special care of you," Elsa praised the actress.

After a dozen minutes, nothing happened to the actress who tasted the food, nor did she experience any symptoms like stomachache or dizziness, so everyone else then gathered around the table and began to have dinner together.
