Trembling At A High Altitude

Chapter 243: Muddle Along (Extra 3580 Chapters)

"Who are you trying to scare? Why the hell don't you just die?" the Assault Rifleman struggled as he loaded the last magazine and lifted his rifle to prepare for a strafing run towards the door, but was stopped by No. 5 and the Sniper.

"Do you think you can kill him like that? Can't you be a little more coolheaded?" No. 5 was somewhat speechless with the Assault Rifleman.

"Boss, he's right outside the door! Blow him up with the Grenade Launcher!" the Assault Rifleman suggested to No. 5.

"How do you propose we blow him up? Against the wall? Are we trying to kill him or ourselves?" No. 5 was utterly exasperated.

"Fire it outside the door!" The Assault Rifleman couldn't accept it—they were being humiliated by Li Teng right outside, and yet they were cowering in the room, too scared to make a move.

There was only one of them, and they had three!

If his leg bone hadn't been shattered by a grenade, rendering him unable to walk, the Assault Rifleman would have definitely charged outside by now. He felt it was because of how cowardly No. 5 and the Sniper were that they ended up in such a passive position.

"Do you think he'll stand outside the door to let you blow him up? Do you think he's as brainless as you?" the Sniper couldn't help but taunt the Assault Rifleman.

"Can't you speak like a damn human?" The Assault Rifleman flew into a rage. It was bad enough being mocked by Li Teng, but now even his teammate was taunting him; he felt like he was about to vomit blood from anger.

"Calm down! Don't be impulsive! He's a cheater for sure; he must be using hacks. No matter what we do, we won't be able to beat him. How about we wait until the scenario is over, then we can all complain and have the director report him. Film and Television City will definitely punish him severely and cancel the points deducted from us," No. 5 tried to reason with the Assault Rifleman.

"Right, what's the point of contending with a cheater?" the Sniper also spoke out.

"Hmm, I admit you guys have a point. Okay, he's a cheater; we can't beat him. But what do we do now? How do we end this scenario? Point B is already his, and if he doesn't end the scenario, we'll have to wait more than two days for it to end naturally. Are we just going to let him torment us here this whole time?" the Assault Rifleman was almost frantic.

Neither of his companions was in pain; how could they understand the suffering he was going through?

"What if... we commit suicide?" the Sniper grabbed the barrel of the Assault Rifleman's gun and pointed it at his own forehead.

"Fucking hell! You have the guts to kill yourself, but not the courage to go out and fight?" the Assault Rifleman forcefully moved the barrel away.

"Don't commit suicide. If a cheater kills us, there's still a chance the death penalty will be voided due to the opposition's violation. But if you commit suicide, you'll be fined 1000 points and you won't be able to clear your name," No. 5 rejected the Sniper's suggestion.

"How about this, we escape through the window. He's currently outside the door," the Sniper came up with another idea.

"It's been quiet for a while now; who knows if he's gone somewhere else? The moment you stick your head out the window, it might be met with a bullet," No. 5 shook his head.

"He's only one person. He can't be at both the door and the window simultaneously, right? The two of you can each take a route, one through the door and the other through the window. At least one of you should be able to get away, right? Then go to the Black Dragon Association for some back-up and ambush him together. Wouldn't that be great?" the Assault Rifleman had an idea.

"He's not alone; there's also a woman. Have you both forgotten?" No. 5 reminded the Sniper and the Assault Rifleman.

"The woman who fired the flare gun has already been killed by me," the Sniper shook his head; he had seen Liu Hui fall with a bloody hole through her in his scope.

In such a situation, there was no chance of survival. Even if by some miracle she was still clinging to life, she couldn't have retained any fighting strength. Later on, he was distracted by the approaching horde of zombies and didn't notice the bizarre disappearance of Liu Hui's corpse.

"Then that's settled. Each of you takes a side and breaks out. At least one of you should be able to survive and leave this place, go to the Black Dragon Association for help, and regroup a larger force to encircle him," the Assault Rifleman repeated his suggestion to them.

"If we leave, what will you do? Continue to be tormented by him?" No. 5 threw the question back at the Assault Rifleman.

"What do you care about me for? If he dares to come in, I'll kill the bastard!" the Assault Rifleman brandished his assault rifle.

No. 5 and the Sniper remained silent, saying nothing more.

"Come on! Get going! Stop dawdling!" the Assault Rifleman urged them.

The two of them continued to be silent and didn't respond to the Assault Rifleman.

Just leaving like this, there's a fifty percent chance of getting killed.

And it might be a torturous death, just like what happened to the assault rifleman, with a bloody hole blasted through an ankle, or some other bone broken, suffering in unbearable pain.

Right now, at least the two of them are intact—hiding for the moment is the best they can do. Why would they want to provoke Li Teng and then get brutally killed?

"Damn it! I must have been blind to follow you two cowards..." the assault rifleman cursed, unable to restrain his anger at the fear evident on the faces of the two men.

"Calling us cowards? You're the idiot," the sniper shot back at the assault rifleman.

No matter how much they argued, Number 5 and the sniper just didn't want to leave.

The assault rifleman was out of options. Eventually, all three fell silent.

Of course, it wasn't complete silence; the assault rifleman kept screaming in pain.

Outside, Li Teng no longer made any noise; it had been quite a while since anyone had heard anything from him.

Subtly, the air carried the scent of grilled meat, as if the unique fragrance of Storm Ridge's secret smoked goose legs being cooked could be detected.

There was also the smell of burning wood.

Li Teng was actually outside, starting a fire and grilling meat!

That's really ignoring them, isn't it?

After all the commotion, they were indeed hungry. Smelling the meat, their stomachs unwillingly started to growl.

"Boss, he's eating. Make your move, catch him off guard, and finish him with one shot," the assault rifleman suggested to Number 5, who was leaning against the wall, hugging the barrel of his grenade launcher and squinting.

"If you want to go, you go. I'm not about to throw my life away," Number 5 replied with a couldn't-care-less expression.

"Can I even go like this? If my foot wasn't broken, I would have charged out long ago!" the assault rifleman fumed.

"Then you'd just be dead sooner. You couldn't kill him when you had so many troops before, and now you think you can take him on alone? You're overestimating yourself," the sniper mocked the assault rifleman.

"Fuck your mother!" the assault rifleman, enraged beyond words, could only resort to cursing.

"Swearing is a sign of a loser!" the sniper moved away, as if ashamed to associate with someone like the assault rifleman.

"Fuck your mother! Fuck your mother!" the assault rifleman continued to curse.

It relieved his anger, and somewhat his pain.

Just then, outside their battered door, someone suddenly threw in a piece of wood that was half-burnt and smoking heavily; it bounced and fell at their feet.

The three of them jumped in fright. Once they saw it was just a piece of wood, the sniper quickly grabbed it and threw it back out the door.

Almost at the same time, another half-burnt, smoking piece of wood was hurled in from the window above!

The three men were dumbstruck.

Wasn't Li Teng alone? How could he be outside the door and the window at the same time?
