Chapter 110: A Matter of Life and Death (1st update, please subscribe)
The altitude was getting lower and lower.
The ground below became clearer and clearer.
Beyond the enormous white lines and numbers, the world below remained as normal.
Everywhere was land; without even mentioning seas or lakes, there wasn't even a small river!
"3665, 3751..."
Li Teng kept muttering to himself.
If all went well, he would reach that area very soon.
But then, a large mountain appeared ahead.
A mountain over a thousand meters tall, it loomed right before the two of them.
The place Li Teng wanted to go to was blocked by this mountain!
The terrain was treacherous, the cliffs were like a giant wall, lying across their field of vision.
It was impossible to fly around it.
Neither the altitude nor the time would permit it.
At their current speed and direction, the two would crash directly into the cliff face and be smashed to pieces!
...
"Exciting! Wingsuit flying! They're about to land, but how will they land without parachutes?" Elsa, who had been watching the live broadcast, was feeling tense at this moment.
"Li Teng seems to know how to land, he's been flying in this direction the entire time," Gao Fei conjectured.
Because the drone was filming from several dozen to a hundred meters above the two, they couldn't hear a single word of Li Teng and Anna's conversation in the air, nor did they know what arrangements they had made for landing.
"Will they turn into wax figures if they crash to death?" The Bunny Girl, who had been watching the broadcast, gradually became more familiar with Elsa and Gao Fei.
"Yes," Gao Fei nodded.
"Does someone have to partake in this dangerous filming after every performance?" The Bunny Girl asked, recalling Elsa and Gao Fei's story about the last time Li Teng and Anna participated in Hell Mode, and seeing them participating again this time, giving her a mistaken impression.
"No, these two are special..." Gao Fei was somewhat at a loss as to how to explain this to the newcomer.
"Is it because Li Teng likes to cause trouble, always doing illegal things, so Film and Television City is always punishing him? And Anna gets involved because she's close to him?" The Bunny Girl speculated.
"What you said... seems to make some sense, he does like to cause trouble," Elsa and Gao Fei laughed together upon hearing the Bunny Girl's comment.
...
"Why do I feel like the two of them are going to survive again?" Huang Xun said, watching Li Teng fly determinedly towards a certain area, feeling uneasy.
"These two have definitely cheated death, they won't die. I won't be here next time, and you better not provoke them anymore. You can't afford to mess with these type of people," Du Qing sincerely advised Huang Xun.
"If they don't die like this, are there no rules at all? Is Hell Mode just for fun?" Liu Huang, upon hearing Huang Xun and Du Qing's conversation, was infuriated.
He was now doomed to be encased in wax, and worse, it was the kind of conscious wax sealing where he was to remain awake for fifty years! If he could pull down a couple of people with him, he would feel much more at ease.
But from what the two were suggesting, Li Teng and Anna wouldn't die?
Wingsuit flying without parachutes and still not die?
Was there no justice left?
"Indeed, if they don't die this time, it would be very strange. What does it mean that they keep flying in a certain direction? Did someone tell them the route in advance?" Huang Xun was baffled.
...
Li Teng observed the cliff over a thousand meters high in front of him, feeling anxious yet helpless. He raised his body to use the airflow to slow down slightly, but Anna zoomed past him and flew towards his right front.
Li Teng hurriedly followed, and only then did he see that there was a very narrow crevice in the cliff ahead to the right. If he didn't want to crash directly into the cliff, he had to go through that narrow crevice!
Anna was obviously much more experienced than him in this regard.
The space and time they had were insufficient; to pass through the narrow gap while moving at high speed required a wealth of wingsuit flying experience.
Anna demonstrated in front, making a sharp turn toward the direction of the gap.
Li Teng hurriedly followed suit, making a sharp turn behind Anna.
At that point, Li Teng no longer had any room for thought; all he could do was to rely on those not-so-polished skills he had practiced earlier, closely following Anna. He flew exactly as she flew.
The two consecutively flew into the crevices of the mountain cliffs, but unexpectedly, there was a bend in the gap ahead!
Anna made a rapid stop and turn to enter the bend, while Li Teng, in his panic, almost crashed directly into the cliff wall. His turning technique was clearly not as skilled as Anna's, and although he managed to force the turn at the last moment, he scraped his leg against the cliff wall.
It hurt so intensely he felt as if his bones had shattered.
At such high speeds, no matter what you scrape against, human flesh seems extremely fragile.
That's why those involved in cultivation first train their physical bodies. Only after strengthening the body do they fly through the sky, fearing that a show-off move might end up with their bodies smashed to a pulp in mid-air.
In the blink of an eye, the two completed their passage through the crevices in the cliff, and the altitude of the mountain ahead suddenly decreased, making the view open up once again.
Still no lake in sight.
Just an endless range of mountains!
The mountains were covered with snow, but it wasn't thick, nowhere near enough to cushion the tremendous force of landing.
Luckily, there was a strong updraft nearby, which slowed down their descent.
Anna used the updraft to lift her head and reduce her speed, allowing Li Teng to fly in front of her.
Clearly, she was out of options too.
"3925, 4099…"
"4185, 4273…"
Because they were getting closer, the numbers were getting bigger, and partly covered by snow, they were becoming increasingly difficult to recognize.
The ground was getting closer to them.
Finally, Li Teng reached his target location.
A cell supposedly marked with the number 4359.
Li Teng couldn't see the full picture of the cell clearly anymore because he was too close, and he couldn't even be sure that the cell was indeed 4359, only basing his assumption on his estimates and sense of direction.
No lake ahead.
No huge cushioning sponges or crash nets.
Ahead was only a gorge that was at about a sixty-degree angle to their direction of flight!
Whether the gorge contained a stream or something else, it was impossible to see from their angle.
Now they might only be a few dozen meters above the ground.
It was time to take the gamble!
Life and death would be decided in this instant!
Landing was a technical task, and Li Teng had no experience at all; hesitating, he looked up again to slow down his descent.
Anna once again whizzed past Li Teng and moved to the front.
As she was about to enter the gorge ahead, Anna made a quick stop and turn, adjusting her direction along the gorge before rushing into it.
Li Teng didn't have time to think; he adjusted his direction along with her and entered the gorge.
Inside the gorge… there was no water.
