Chapter 171 Treasure Allocation and Adaptation
At this moment, an ordinary card appeared in Alka's hand, its surface enveloped by a pink mist as he flung it out.
The card carved an arc ahead of him, leaving a long trail of pink smoke.
When the Fireball struck the pink smoke, it dimmed, grew heavy, and lost its momentum, crashing into the sea below.
This was a new ability Alka had recently developed.
Through the pink Dream-Entering Mist, even non-living objects could be imbued with the dream-entering attribute.
Although it couldn't truly make them dream, it noticeably slowed the object's speed.
This was the perfect time to use it.
The water temperature had dropped to the freezing point, and heavy snow began to fall from the sky.
With the swing of a sword, pillars of ice thrust forward one after another, freezing the seawater ahead of them into solid blocks.
These ice blocks severely hindered the Lava Serpent's pursuit, and the distance between them and the serpent grew.
Several segments of the Lava Serpent's body had already broken off, visibly reducing its size.
As the surrounding temperature continued to drop, its movements became sluggish. Another ice pillar crashed into it, forcing it to halt its pursuit.
The serpent watched the ship departing further and further away, opened its massive mouth, and roared furiously.
In its anger, it continuously spewed Magma Fireballs towards the ship.
However, these Fireballs were frozen by the Coldness in mid-air. Though they didn't immediately turn into ice, they lost all kinetic energy and fell into the sea, becoming small chunks of rock.
"Seems it has given up," Alka observed, looking at the Giant Lava Serpent, which was no longer chasing them but roaring in place.
Julia finally breathed a sigh of relief, her breath turning into ice shards in the frigid air.
She controlled the Treasure in her hand, placing it into the box beside her.
The intense chill in the sky immediately lessened, and the Coldness began to rapidly fade.
"We can't use this Treasure anymore," Julia said. "The Magic Power in my Circuit is already showing severe changes."
The attributes of Frost Nova were too potent; using it just a few times had already begun to shift Julia's Magic Power towards the frost attribute.
Using it a few more times would truly push things to an extreme.
It was unlike the Dream Catcher, which was much milder and had taken half a year to slowly alter Alka's Magic Power.
It might also be due to the Dream Catcher's weak magical properties.
This seemed to be a common issue with Elemental Class Treasures, or at least according to Lucilia.
With the Giant Lava Serpent no longer chasing them from behind, they were finally safe. The ship began to slow down, resuming a normal sailing speed.
"Pororo, check around the ship for any signs of damage. The rest of you, check the deck and mast," Alka said, as he also began to inspect the entire ship.
There was no choice; this Spell Ship was a relatively low-grade one without a quality inspection system, so they needed to inspect it thoroughly after battles. Any problems discovered had to be resolved immediately; one couldn't afford to be careless when sailing at sea.
Moreover, with only the six of them on board, even though they covered a wide range, there would inevitably be areas they couldn't attend to.
After a full inspection confirmed there were no issues, everyone gathered on the deck.
They looked at the rectangular metal block before them, its surface polished smooth like a Mirror.
Alka looked up at the few people in front of him.
He thought for a moment and said, "Chadite, you try first."
Because she had awakened to a Spell when she became a Toucher, Chadite was likely the one among them currently who would find it hardest to bond with a new Treasure. Now that they had this new Treasure, she should be the first to try and see if it was compatible with her.
Chadite nodded, reached out, and touched the metal surface. Magic Power surged from her palm.
However, as soon as her Magic Power began to integrate, it was abruptly repelled. The force of the repulsion was substantial, pushing Chadite back several steps.
Seeing this, Alka couldn't help but kick at the Treasure in front of him.
What a classic bully, preying on the weak but afraid of the strong! Why wasn't it so forceful when I infused my Magic Power?
Since Chadite was unsuccessful, Alka turned to look at Pororo.
Catching Alka's gaze, Pororo nodded, stepped forward, and reached out to touch the metal surface, smooth as a Mirror.
Water-like Magic Power flowed out, but it too was repelled, jarring Pororo's hand away from the surface.
"What's going on?" Alka was baffled by this phenomenon.
Logically, this shouldn't be happening. Chadite being repelled was understandable. After all, she had awakened a Spell when she became a Toucher, so in the 'eyes' of many Treasures, she was already someone who possessed another Treasure. But Pororo didn't have this issue. Pororo was just an ordinary Toucher and shouldn't be repelled by a Treasure. Really strange.
Hearing Alka, the others were also baffled.
"Lucilia, do you know anything about this situation?"
At Alka's question, Lucilia, who was on his shoulder, shook her head. "No, I've never seen or heard of such a situation."
Alright, so even the most knowledgeable member of our team doesn't know. It seems the mysteries of Treasures run quite deep.
Now, only Jason and Julia were left to try.
"Jason, you try first."
Hearing this, Jason couldn't help but rub his hands together. Slightly nervous, he reached out and placed his hand on the Treasure's metal surface.
