Chapter 325: Sparring with others 3

Nathan narrowed his eyes as he watched the sudden shift in rhythm and couldn't help but ask, "What just happened?"

"Both of them already realized that their current fighting style won't be enough to win," Myla explained. "So they paused to adjust and start a new round, this time with trickier, more unpredictable movements."

Aside from Zam and Wes, Myla was the next strongest and also one of the most experienced among those present. That's why she was the one offering explanations to those who couldn't quite grasp the intricacies of the sparring match.

No one really expected Zam or Wes to say much, as both of them rarely spoke unless absolutely necessary.

In fact, that was partly why the group had become so supportive of Camille's pursuit of Zam over the past few weeks. They had enjoyed seeing how Camille could occasionally force Zam to speak or react, which was a rare sight.

With another loud sound of Luciel and Treyton's weapons, Nathan was pulled from his wandering thoughts and focused again on the match in front of him.

For the first 20 minutes, Luciel and Treyton had focused solely on using their glaives to attack each other. But after a brief pause, they began incorporating their bodies into the fight as well.

Both of them started using their hands and feet, kicking or striking in between weapon swings. Both of them were trying to catch the other off guard and create openings for deadlier glaive attacks.

Luciel was obviously faster and lighter than Treyton, allowing him to strike quickly and retreat just as fast. However, Treyton also had fast reflexes and delivered heavier, more forceful blows. So even though their fighting styles had become more varied and tricky, neither side had managed to gain a significant advantage.

They continued to fight, only now with more ferocity than before.

It should have been an exhausting battle, but neither of them showed signs of fatigue. They kept up the intense pace, as if their energy hadn't dipped at all.

In the end, they fought for a full hour before finally stopping. Both of them halted at the same time, and just like that, the match ended without a clear winner.

Nathan had really wanted to know who would win if they kept going, but just getting to witness such a spar was already satisfying. So even without an outcome, he was content.

The others likely felt the same. Even the kids, who had been passionately arguing over who was stronger between Luciel and Treyton, clapped excitedly once the spar ended.

His strength was really not enough. After more than an hour of fighting with Treyton, he was already tired.

His physical strength wasn't on the same level as Treyton's at all, so he had to rely on his speed to launch continuous attacks, making sure Treyton wouldn't have the chance or energy to unleash more powerful blows.

Treyton's strikes were also much heavier, and every time their glaives clashed, Luciel could feel the weight behind them. Parrying those attacks drained more of his stamina.

So, his physical strength was clearly the issue. If not for that, he could have surely defeated Treyton, since he was actually more proficient with the glaive.

Well, Treyton had only been using the weapon for a few months, so it couldn't compare to the years Luciel had already spent wielding it.

"As expected, you're really good," Treyton said after the fight.

"Of course I am," Luciel replied matter-of-factly, before adding in a dissatisfied tone, "But my strength is really lacking right now."

"I need to spar again after 10 minutes. Do you want to go another round? If you're busy with your own training, I can ask the others."

He had already decided to rest for only 10 minutes, as it would also count as endurance training.

After all, in real battles against a lot of opponents, 10 minutes could already be considered more than enough.

"Okay, let's have another spar. I still have a lot to learn about using a glaive, and it's better to learn through sparring with you."

While they were fighting earlier, Luciel had already noticed that Treyton was picking up techniques from the way he used the glaive and was trying to incorporate them on the spot.

Although Treyton and the others had been using glaives as one of their main weapons against zombies, mostly because of the weapon's longer reach, they were basically using them without any formal technique.

No one had taught them how to wield glaives properly; they had simply learned through experience and necessity.

That was actually similar to how Luciel learned. No one had taught him either; he'd just used the glaive while fighting monsters and honed his skills over the years. Since it was one of his main weapons, he had naturally developed more efficient ways to use it.

Of course, his knowledge wasn't extensive. He had also used other weapons and never focused solely on the glaive.

Still, what he had learned through experience was already valuable, especially for someone like Treyton, who'd only been using the weapon for a few months.

Treyton had good instincts and excellent comprehension. After one or two more spars, Luciel was sure Treyton would be able to absorb everything and use the glaive far more effectively and lethally.

"Good, then let's go for another round after a bit."

"But why only 10 minutes? Are you sure that's enough time to rest?"

"Ten minutes is enough. If you need more rest, then I could also ask the others for a spar before sparring with you again."

His goal wasn't to rest anyway. Ten minutes wouldn't be enough for a full recovery after such an intense fight, but it was enough for a short breather. Just enough time to regulate his breathing, adjust his condition, and be able to keep going.

"It's also enough for me, but I don't really think it's enough for you."

"Don't worry about it. I can recover enough to have another spar in just 10 minutes."
