Transmigrated Become Sukuna, but the host is Yukinoshita Yukino?

Chapter 156: Chapter 156 - What Do You Think Life Is?!

The sky over Shinjuku was repeatedly lit up by dazzling flames.

"No need to look, it's definitely Hayashizaki causing all that commotion," Hikigaya Hachiman said with certainty.

"Mm, let's keep moving." Yukinoshita Yukino withdrew her gaze. "The cursed spirits in Kabukicho should already be cleared out."

If it's Hayashizaki-kun, there's no need to worry.

Moving forward meant entering the underground passage leading to Shinjuku's commercial district.

The underground passage wasn't just a walkway; it was also an underground shopping area filled with various shops, mostly small eateries.

The sound of their footsteps echoed in the stairwell leading down, and the eerie silence made Yukinoshita Yukino instinctively more cautious—until a faint sobbing sound came from below.

She and Hikigaya Hachiman exchanged glances and immediately quickened their pace, rushing down the stairs.

Turning a corner, both of them froze.

It wasn't a scene of brutal slaughter.

On the contrary, compared to the nightmarish sights they had witnessed earlier, this place was eerily calm.

But it was just the calm before the storm.

Civilians stood in a line, their faces filled with fear and despair, as if they were waiting in line for an execution.

A bald man, dressed like a military officer, paced back and forth in front of the hostages.

He wore a hollowed-out blindfold over his eyes, a black apron covered in bloodstains on his upper body, and a pair of filthy work pants that looked like they hadn't been washed in months. In his hand, he held a butcher's knife.

Behind him, a cursed spirit with an octopus-like head but a body resembling a paramecium peeked out from behind a pillar, watching the scene unfold.

Judging by its aura, it was only at a semi-first-grade level.

"You!"

Kumiya Juzo suddenly raised his butcher's knife and pointed at the first person in line—a young man with a weary expression, probably a college student.

The student flinched in fear, his body trembling as he took a step forward.

Panting heavily, his pupils reflected the face of the bald brute looming over him. In the end, he shut his eyes in despair.

Kumiya Juzo tapped the young man's body with the flat side of his knife, then shook his head in disappointment and sighed.

"This one won't do."

He reached out with his left hand, grabbed the student's hair, and flung him backward.

The student stumbled and fell in front of the octopus-headed cursed spirit.

He cried out in pain but soon realized he was covered by a massive shadow. Instinctively, he looked up.

The next moment, his vision was swallowed by darkness.

"Mmmph! Mmm... mmmph!"

Everyone watched in horror as the student's upper body was devoured by the cursed spirit.

Panic spread through the group. Some of the girls screamed, tears streaming down their faces.

"Shut up! If you keep screaming, you'll be next!" Kumiya Juzo snapped, raising his butcher's knife and yelling at them impatiently.

The girls immediately fell silent, covering their mouths and even holding their breath, afraid that the terrifying man who killed without hesitation—and the monster behind him—would notice them.

*Splat!*

A sickening sound of flesh being torn apart echoed through the underground space, and purple blood splattered everywhere.

"Ow… it hurts, it hurts so much…" Dagon groaned in pain, spitting out the person he hadn't fully swallowed yet.

What was horrifying was that the part of the body he had already consumed had turned into bare white bones, while the lower half still had flesh, with blood dripping down the exposed spine.

"Huh?" Kumiya Juzo turned his head, confused.

In his line of sight was a beautiful black-haired girl with an icy expression, walking toward them.

Kumiya Juzo's eyes immediately lit up, completely ignoring the dead-eyed boy following behind her.

"Oh, oh, oh! It's here! Inspiration has struck!" The bald man suddenly howled like a madman, wildly swinging the butcher knife in his hand. A girl standing closest to him was caught in the chaos, and a deep gash was instantly carved across her chest.

Then, just as suddenly, Kumiya Juzo went completely quiet, as if switching personalities in an eerie, unnatural way. His lips curled into a grin.

"Your eyes are beautiful. They'd make a great decoration for a mirror."

"You bastard!"

The moment he moved, Yukinoshita Yukino had already raised her arm, but she was still a step too late. The invisible slash she sent out only arrived after the unlucky girl had already been cut. By then, the bald man had already withdrawn his butcher knife.

Her attack landed on the wall behind him, leaving a deep gash.

"Hikigaya, go save them!"

Yukinoshita Yukino shot forward, and her words only reached Hikigaya Hachiman's ears after she had already moved.

Hikigaya quickly understood and ran toward the group of civilians, shouting, "Run this way! We're here to save you!"

To these people, his voice sounded like salvation itself. They snapped out of their fear and immediately sprinted toward Hikigaya's direction.

"Oh? Little girl, you seem to care a lot about these monkeys' lives," Kumiya Juzo sneered. As Yukinoshita Yukino charged at him, he casually waved his hand, sending a blast of cursed energy toward the fleeing crowd.

It wasn't a technique—just a simple burst of raw power.

The attack hit a man at the back of the group, sending him flying into a support pillar. The sound of bones shattering was crisp and clear.

His body slid lifelessly to the ground.

Seeing this, Yukinoshita Yukino's eyes burned with fury. The cursed energy around her fists took on a faint red glow.

"You piece of trash! Do you even see people as human?!"

"Yes! That's it! Despair more! Let your eyes be filled with even more despair and rage! That way, my masterpiece will be even more perfect!"

Yukinoshita Yukino, overwhelmed by rage, threw a reckless punch. Kumiya Juzo easily dodged by shifting to the side, then swung his butcher knife upward.

"A guitar! Your body will make a fine guitar!"

Blood sprayed into the air.

A deep slash appeared across the bald man's chest, and he was sent flying backward.

After rolling on the ground, he looked down at his wound, his face filled with disbelief.

"An attack I couldn't see… Was that a slash?"

Recalling Yukinoshita Yukino's first attack, which had missed, Kumiya Juzo murmured, "So it's a long-range slashing technique…"

Though he wasn't too injured to move, he immediately realized the gap in strength between himself and the black-haired girl. Without hesitation, he turned and sprinted toward Hikigaya Hachiman.

His target was the fleeing civilians.

As long as he killed those monkeys one by one in front of this woman, she would surely be furious and make a mistake.

Hikigaya Hachiman's eyes widened, and in his pupils, the slaughter knife grew larger and larger.
