Transmigrated As An Extra In The Apocalypse

Chapter 22: Chapter 21: Fear

I woke up in darkness.

Not the kind of darkness that comes when you shut your eyes, but a void, pitch black, oppressive, and endless.

It pressed against me like a weight, making it hard to breathe.

For a moment, I just lay there, disoriented, trying to understand where I was or how I'd gotten here.

I pushed myself up, the ground beneath me solid yet unseen.

My hands felt around aimlessly, but there was nothing.

No walls, no ceiling, no light just me, floating in a space that didn't seem to care about the rules of the world I knew.

"What the hell?" I muttered, my voice sounding small, swallowed by the void.

I stood, brushing off my pants out of habit more than necessity, and turned in a slow circle.

Still nothing.

It was as if the void extended forever, an empty canvas with no beginning or end.

My mind raced through possibilities.

Is this a nightmare?

Or some twisted side effect of the cube's seal breaking?

Or something or someone brought me here?

None of my self questions I came up with got any answer.

Frustrated, I began to move.

One foot in front of the other, step by step, I walked forward or at least I thought I was.

The lack of landmarks or any sense of direction made it impossible to tell if I was even moving at all.

Then I noticed it.

My steps weren't steps at all.

My legs refused to respond, like they were paralyzed.

I looked down, trying to will my legs into action, but they didn't obey.

Before I could fully process my situation, a low, guttural growl rumbled behind me.

The sound was primal, raw, and it made the hairs on the back of my neck stand on end.

Slowly, I turned, dread pooling in my stomach.

At first, there was nothing.

Just the same void I'd been trapped in.

But then, out of the darkness, two massive, glowing blue eyes appeared.

They hovered in the blackness, unblinking and fixated on me. Beneath them, a jagged maw of razor-sharp teeth materialized, wide and menacing, each tooth gleaming with an unnatural brightness.

I should have been terrified.

My instincts screamed at me to run, or scream, to do anything but stand there.

Yet, strangely, I didn't.

The fear was there, yes, but it didn't consume me the way it should have.

It was like a barrier had formed between me and the terror this... thing was trying to inflict.

Instead, I stared back.

The eyes locked onto mine, and for a moment, the world felt smaller, compressed into the space between us.

The intensity of its gaze was overwhelming.

It wasn't just looking at me it felt like it was reaching into my soul, pulling it apart piece by piece.

A part of me wanted to scream, to crumble under the weight of whatever this thing was.

But I didn't.

Something deep inside me something I didn't quite understand refused to break.

Seconds stretched into what felt like hours as we stared at each other.

I couldn't move, couldn't think, but I refused to look away.

Then, as abruptly as it had appeared, the thing began to retreat.

Its eyes blinked once, then disappeared into the darkness.

The sharp teeth followed, vanishing like smoke dissipating in the air.

And with it, the void itself began to fade.

Light seeped in slowly, illuminating the edges of my vision.

I woke up to something pressing on my chest.

Groggy and disoriented, I opened my eyes, only to find Ori sitting on top of me, his bright blue eyes glowing unnaturally.

For a moment, I froze, my heart skipping a beat.

The glow was mesmerizing, almost hypnotic.

But as quickly as it appeared, it faded back to the usual vivid blue, leaving me questioning whether I'd actually seen it or if it was just my imagination.

"Ori," I said, my voice groggy and low.

I slowly pushed myself up, lifting the small wolf off my chest.

He didn't resist, but his gaze stayed locked on mine. "Was that you? Were you the one who did... whatever that was just now?"

Unsurprisingly, Ori didn't reply.

He just blinked, tilting his head slightly like he was amused by my confusion.

Before I could press him further, an obnoxious alarm blared from somewhere in the room.

The sharp, repetitive sound pulled me completely out of my half-asleep state.

Grumbling, I placed Ori on the bed, And looked side.

Bedside table, a small alarm ringing and flashed with a single word...

Eating Time.

I stared at it, trying to piece together its meaning. Eating Time?

Is someone going to deliver food to my room?

Was this a reminder to eat?

Or was this some kind of strange military code?

"Eating time…" I muttered, rubbing the back of my neck.

It took longer than I'd like to admit, but eventually, it clicked.

The alarm was personally set by sky to alert him when it is time to eat in the cafeteria.

This was the designated time for the evening meal.

"Well, that solves the mystery," I said to Ori, who was now stretched lazily on the bed, watching me with his usual plain gaze.

I grabbed a plain white T-shirt and pulled it over my head, pairing it with the standard military trousers I'd been given.

Simple, practical.

Before leaving, I shot Ori a pointed look. "Alright, you're staying here."

Ori blinked at me innocently, and for a second, I considered letting him tag along. But no his sudden appearance were things I couldn't afford to explain to anyone.

With a wave of my hand, I made him disappear into the void of my spatial inventory, a place I was quickly realizing was incredibly useful.

I was just about to step out the door when it swung open abruptly.

And none other than, Sergeant Thomas stormed in.

"Well what do we have here, private sky, right?" he said in a cold tone.

"Yes sir" I said trying to sound respectful as possible.

"Give me the electric gun," he said, his tone cold and clipped.

"What?" I blinked at him, caught off guard by the abrupt demand. "I thought the gun was issued to me after the last mission?"

"Orders are orders," he said, his expression icy. "Hand it over."

I hesitated, not because I wanted to defy him, but because the whole thing didn't sit right with me.

Still, there was no point arguing.

With a sigh, I retrieved the gun and handed it to him.

He didn't even bother acknowledging me after that, turning on his heel and leaving without another word.

"Well, good talk," I muttered under my breath, watching him disappear down the hallway.

Shaking off the odd encounter, I left my room and set off toward the cafeteria.

Or at least, I thought I was heading toward the cafeteria.

It turned out the base was much larger and more maze-like than I'd realized.

After wandering aimlessly for what felt like forever, I finally spotted a group of soldiers heading in the same direction.

Deciding to swallow my pride, I trailed behind them, doing my best to remain inconspicuous.

Eventually, the smell of food hit me a comforting mix of grilled meat, freshly baked bread, and spices.

My stomach growled in response, and I quickened my pace.

The cafeteria was massive, filled with rows of long tables and bustling with soldiers.

Despite the size, it was noisy, the hum of chatter and clinking utensils filling the space.

I joined the line to order food, grabbing a tray and piling it high with a little bit of everything.

The best part was...

It was all free.

I found a quiet corner at the far end of the room and sat alone.

As I started eating, my mind wandered back to earlier. Ori's glowing eyes, the strange void and eyes, what was that?

I played the scene over in my head, dissecting every detail.

The nightmare and the sensation I experienced, that overwhelming presence it wasn't just in my head.

Ori had done something, something powerful.

It had felt like the darkness itself had come alive, trying to crush me under its weight.

"Fear inducement," I muttered, the term popping into my head.

I have read about similar abilities in novels and comics.

The power to instill raw, paralyzing fear it wasn't something to take lightly.

But how strong was Ori, really?

Could I tap into that power?

Could I make it stronger? Or is it already stronger?

The possibilities swirled in my mind as I absentmindedly shoveled food into my mouth.

One thing was clear, Ori wasn't just a cute pet.

Whatever he is, he has the potential to destroy this whole damn city.

Just by seeing the mother description made me believe it.

"What are you, Ori?"
