Chapter 186: Subclass MER#498
"Just because you haven't done something doesn't mean that you are free of the consequences. Cause and effect…who is to determine which is the former and which is the latter?"
Zyrus had a wild guess buried deep within his thoughts, and sure enough, it was confirmed by the imp king's words. What he heard was something so absurd that no sane person would ever think about it.
If you fell off the stairs then it was expected that you'd have a few broken bones. But what if your bones suddenly broke when you were climbing the stairs? Even if it was destined that you would fall from the stairs, it still doesn't explain why the consequences came before the action.
Zyrus's current situation was similar. He hadn't used the Muileartach's Cursed Ring, and yet, he was about to pay the price of using it.
"I see…you still didn't answer my question though."
Even if what the imp king was saying was correct, it didn't make sense why they took the initiative to help Zyrus.
"As a matter of fact, I did. It is my role to serve you with the best of my abilities."
"…"
Zyrus stared at the eyes of the imp king without uttering a word. Saying something like 'Why' and 'How' was useless. The imp king had already told him everything he needed to know.
If he managed to subdue the imp king in the future, then it would be their duty to aid him. This did not change the fact that they were enemies right now. The sole reason they were able to have this conversation was thanks to the strange feeling Zyrus had.
[I shall start the final round]
Matope's solemn voice interrupted their conversation. Indeed, they had gotten sidetracked and forgotten about the main reason for which they initiated the conversation.

Ten new platforms descended from the sky. They were different from the previous ones as instead of rock and magma, they were made up of ash clouds.
Not much needed to be said when even the bystanders were able to feel soot in their eyes and ears. The Vajeers were like diamonds shining in a dark cave. Red swords, emerald daggers, crooked wings, a shiny head, a fluttering mane, thorny bracers… various glowing equipment and parts of their body were revealed whenever a gust of wind dispersed the ash.
Moments passed by and when the timer reached the 30-second mark, the imp guards finally made their appearance.
Although they had the word 'guard' in their role, they didn't look anything like a guard. They wore crude crowns that looked like cheap imitations of the ones that players had. They held a staff in one hand while their other hand held a leash for their cadejo mount.
The imp guards were the first among their kind who needed to rely on a leash to command their cadejo mounts. There was no doubt about their strength because just like the 10 Vajeers who were best of the best among the players, they too were second only to the imp king in individual strength. Which left only one reason as to why they needed to wield a leash.
The cadejo mounts were different.
Neither the players nor the imps were able to see clearly beyond the ashen clouds. Apart from the glows of equipment, what stood out the most were 2 pairs of red eyes that were present besides each of the imp guards.
"I won't waste a turn since it's apparent that you're going to lose."
"Rather, they don't need it," the imp king added while looking at the Vajeers below. No matter how powerful the guards were, they were destined to lose.
This book is hosted on another platform. Read the official version and support the author's work.
"Haha..of course there's that. By the way, what did you plan to deal with me?"
"Nothing."
"…"
It was the record-breaking third time for Zyrus to be speechless. All this time he was thinking of countermeasures against the imp king, but apparently, it was useless.
He knew for a fact that the imp king wasn't lying. Perhaps the biggest trick the imp king could pull off was not using any trick. Maybe Zyrus was affected by their previous talk as well since he no longer felt like he needed any more refinement to finish his subclass. From simple to complex and from complex to simple…that was the essence of all things. This was something one only realized after attaining a certain realm of understanding.
Zyrus took a deep breath to gather his thoughts and channeled the cosmic energy throughout his body. His current gigantified form was a precious opportunity for tempering his various acupoints. The holmgang would be over in no time, so it was time to finalize his subclass.
Regardless of the cause and effect, what didn't change was the fact that he needed the strength to face his enemy and survive. The strange feeling he had vanished like thin smoke as the whole of his attention was focused on the task at hand.
[Talent: Devour (A rank)]
Devour the heavens to transcend your mortality.
By absorbing the blood of Jörmungandr, you have inherited a part of its talent. You now possess the ability to devour the cosmic energy to temper your flesh and blood.
May the endless stars quench your hunger.
Effect: Absorb the cosmic energy emitted from the vast cosmos.
CD: None
Special Ability 1: You can accumulate cosmic energy in any part of your body. By unleashing the stored energy, you can imbue your attack with the Stellar power.
Note: At higher adaptation level, it is possible to continuously use this ability by maintaining equilibrium.
Special Ability 2: You now possess the trace of Jörmungandr's bloodline. You can survive in any environment by devouring the world's energy.
Note: Extreme terrain will still harm your body, but you will not die as long as you adapt with your talent.
Note: Such adaptation is irreversible.
Special Ability 3: (Locked)

He was already on the verge of completing the subclass. The only thing holding him back was nothing but his desire. The sanctuary had felt his will to move forward, and it started giving out the rewards he deserved.
The cosmic energy was the main source of energy for Zyrus's subclass. It needed to change and evolve in a way that was most suitable for the following process. Not everyone could get such an opportunity. This was the result of the fusion between the bloodlines of a Sylvarix and Jörmungandr.
The cosmic energy would act as the foundation, and next up were the pillars that would stabilize his subclass.
*Shiiiing*
The sharp cry of metal resounded across the entire island.
[Ding! You have found a new path of ascension]
[You have made a huge contribution to the sanctuary]
[Would you like to mark your name as the Creator of this path?]
Yes/No
Accompanied by the tolling bells was the same announcement that he had seen when he was at the first island.
Unlike then, Zyrus didn't press No.
It was time to engrave his name as the creator of this path.
[Congratulations! You have created the subclass MER#498]
[Please rename your subclass]
[The sanctuary will forever remember your great deeds!]
[Tallying rewards…..]
The messages were still going on when suddenly, more announcements started to appear one after another.
Choir of surging springs, whistles of fierce gales, rustling of trees, glaring balls of fire….
All of these phenomena appeared in the sky and overlapped with one another. It was such a huge commotion that everyone except those on the platforms were looking at it with wide mouths.

Metal, Water, Wood, Wind, Fire. The laws of these five were the starting phase of his subclass. What was the end? It was the Infinite Void. A path began from somewhere and it led to a certain destination. Both of these were established by now. All that was left was how to walk forward.
Zyrus had no idea how to do that. He didn't know what was the most efficient way to achieve the results he desired. The sphere of void he had created before gave him a direction to pursue, but how to do that was a different matter altogether. This was something neither he nor anyone else could accomplish in a short while.
But that wasn't an issue for the system. It was the master of efficiency and the last thing it lacked was time. Zyrus had earned the needed achievements and he gave the directions for the system to follow. How to create a subclass that encompassed everything he had learned and everything he would learn in the future was something the system had to figure out.
And it did just that.
Regardless of their race or status, every creature throughout the seven rings heard the same announcement at this time.
