Chapter 51: You can live with us ...
Smiley's POV
Walking around the neighborhood became a bit more terrifying when Souya and I heard crying.
A girl crying.
We took off toward the sound, but it got quieter. Souya's already in tears thinking of how a girl could be hurt, and even though I did my best to keep him calm, when we heard what sounded like something scurrying into the trees…that became impossible.
They walked together, ready to take on anyone who happened to be nearby. It's too late for it to be anyone good at all and they aren't stupid. It could be bad news, but the girl... Their preparation for a fight slowly turned into dread when they heard whimpers and muttering.
"…sounds like…a girl.." Souya began moving quicker toward the sound, Nahoya right behind him. It's still cold as hell out, and with Kisaki and his members booted out, being on their guard was more important.
It seemed unlikely someone would be out here in the dead of night hanging around the trees. Nahoya moved to the side a bit after hearing quiet pants.
When he pushed his head past a tree branch, he saw someone sitting huddled up against the base of a tree. Hands bloody, eyes covered with a piece of shredded clothing, clothes filthy and shredded.
What the..
"…Y/n…?" Souya whispered.
Hearing her name made Nahoya's heart drop. They hadn't seen her themselves, but they'd heard she ran like a crazy person away from Mikey after screaming he was a monster right in his face. The story seemed surreal, but Mitsuya had been the one to tell them after the Holy Night battle. Even he was confused. It was even more confusing that no one had seen her in since then and it had been over a week.
She had never been afraid of Mikey before, so why would she be now? Everything they'd seen about her and known about her, none of it matched up and yet this time they all were sure it happened.
And why is she here in the cold looking all messed up with her eyes covered?
She jumped at the sound of her name before trying to push herself deeper into the base of the tree. Souya was never the kind to be able to approach most anyone confidently because he knew he looked scary, so Nahoya knew it would have to be him.
Nahoya carefully crouched down near her. "Hey, babe. What're you doing out here?"
She was shaking but he couldn't figure out if it was because she was cold, hurt, or scared.
"…Are you…real…my emojis…?" She muttered.
The question confused the twins, but Nahoya was sure to answer quickly. "Yeah! It's your emoji boys! Remember?"
She gave a quick nod. He came closer to her, trying to be cautious. "Why you got your eyes covered, pretty?" He took it as a good sign when she didn't try to back away again.
"…I see monsters….they're everywhere….I can't get away from them…." As she spoke the words, she began to hyperventilate.
Nahoya came short of touching her. He wasn't sure what to say, but he knew asking her to explain what was wrong wouldn't make sense since nothing she was saying made sense now. "You're pretty banged up. How about we take you home?"
"NO!" She screamed it so loud and started trying to run away again. He quickly grabbed her, knowing he didn't have a choice but to make sure she wouldn't run away and end up worst off. She was crying, shaking so hard, he began to think maybe he should let her go, thinking he was only making it worst.
"..You…can come live with us..if you want.." He looked over his shoulder at Souya. The one never brave enough to say much of anything to anyone, reached out to take her pinkie in his large hand.
She had quieted down enough to have heard him. She was still shaking, but responded, "I can…live with my emojis?"
Nahoya felt overwhelmed with joy knowing she was coming down from whatever she seemed to be experiencing. "Yeah! Here, I'll carry you. Okay?"
"Why?" She quickly blurted it out.
"I don't think you realize it's cold and you're looking pretty hurt, babe." His words were laced with sadness. She stayed silent for a few moments before nodding to give him permission.
He carried her bridal style back to their place. He tried to convince her to take the eye coverings off, but she refused, again saying monsters were everywhere.
Who do we even tell? She called Mikey a monster, so calling him is gonna be bad…
"Hey, do you want us to call anyone for you, babe?" Nahoya calmly asked as they opened their door.
"Call…um…Peke..j cat please."
