Chapter 31: Chapter 31: The Silent City
Their search for answers led them to the ruins of a forgotten city, hidden deep within the mountains. The city was eerily silent, its streets lined with crumbling statues and overgrown vines.
"This place gives me the creeps," Caelan muttered, his grip on his blade tightening.
Divine stepped forward, her gaze drawn to a massive fountain in the center of the city. The water inside was still and dark, reflecting the moonlight like a mirror.
"This place feels… familiar," she said, her voice tinged with unease.
As they approached the fountain, a low hum filled the air, and the water began to ripple. A figure emerged from the shadows, their form translucent and glowing faintly.
"Welcome, Keeper of the Moon," the figure said, their voice echoing softly.
Divine froze, her heart racing. "Who are you?"
"I am a guardian of this city," the figure replied. "And I have been waiting for your return."
The guardian gestured to the fountain, and the water began to swirl, forming images of a past Divine couldn't fully remember.
"You once walked these streets as a goddess, ruling over the tides and guiding the moon's light. But your choices led to the city's downfall. Now, its secrets lie buried, waiting for you to uncover them."
Divine's chest tightened. "I don't understand. What did I do?"
The guardian's gaze softened. "You will find the truth in time. But beware—others seek the power you once wielded. And they will stop at nothing to claim it."
As the guardian faded, Divine turned to Caelan, her resolve hardening. "We need to find the truth. Whatever it takes."
He nodded, his expression serious. "Then let's start digging."
Together, they began to explore the ruins, each step bringing them closer to the heart of the mystery—and the dangers that awaited them in the shadows.
