Thriller!Me? The Death Knight

Chapter 25: Sadly, They Chose the Path of No Return

On the Other Side of the Curtain.

Yi Bai casually spoke in a tone that was just loud enough for the three female players to hear—subtle, yet impossible to ignore. He and Lina discussed the matter of "purchasing the Blood Robe Lich's arm," intentionally using terms like "big client," "resell," and "a big profit."

After a moment, at Yi Bai's signal, Lina quickly pulled back the curtain.

The three women, huddled together as if they had fainted from excessive fear and blood loss, trembled imperceptibly. Yet Lina acted as though nothing unusual had occurred.

"I'll go prepare," she said nonchalantly, "But be careful, don't let Director He find out about this."

"I understand," Yi Bai nodded.

After giving a brief instruction, Lina turned and left.

As the door opened, the patients in the long line outside the Third Hospital all displayed expectant expressions.

"Go in. Doctor Yi Bai is free now, but remember to maintain order," Lina said coldly, eyeing the orderly queue of ghosts and monsters.

"Understood!" the first patient, a Hanging Ghost, smiled stiffly, his long tongue drooping.

Lina nodded slightly, then floated away.

Yi Bai observed the incoming patients, activating his "Insight" ability immediately.

[Patient: Chang Wei]

Race: Hanging Ghost

... (non-key character, not expanding unnecessarily)

Current Condition: Has been struggling with a stiffening tongue for some time. The Third Hospital's doctors couldn't find a solution. His tongue, as the Hanging Ghost's deadly weapon, is growing increasingly rigid, weakening his power. (Solution: Boil Ghost Grass, Putrid Flower, and the Spring of Regret to soften ghostly flesh.)

"Doctor, what about my tongue? Can it be saved?"

After Yi Bai finished the diagnosis, the Hanging Ghost immediately asked.

"It's a minor issue. I can treat it. Here's the prescription. If you brew it yourself, you'll be cured in no time."

Without hesitation, Yi Bai handed over the prescription.

"Divine Doctor! You truly are a godsend!" the Hanging Ghost exclaimed, ecstatic. He had visited countless hospitals in the horror world, but none could treat his condition. Yet, here, Yi Bai offered a simple prescription.

Could he not be excited?

As for whether the prescription would work? With the Rose Countess's reputation behind him, the Hanging Ghost was certain to trust Yi Bai—if it didn't work, he would probably blame himself.

In the horror world, a Blood Robe Lich's reputation was still highly respected by the minor ghosts.

"Yi Bai, even though I've paid for my consultation..." The Hanging Ghost pulled out a small stack of ghost coins and pushed them toward Yi Bai, smiling ingratiatingly.

"You're trying to get me to make a mistake, aren't you?" Yi Bai squinted, his tone laced with meaning.

The Hanging Ghost, being no fool, quickly realized the implication.

"Ah, no, no! These ghost coins were just lying on the ground, I thought they were yours, Doctor!"

"Mm." Yi Bai nodded with satisfaction. "I really appreciate you, the kind of person who returns lost items. I value making friends with people of high character, especially ghosts like you. More friends, more ways to survive. As for other matters, I may not be able to help, but when it comes to medicine, you can rest assured."

"Thank you! Thank you, Yi Bai!" The Hanging Ghost beamed with joy.

"By the way, make sure to tell the others outside that I'm a doctor of principles. No funny business, understand?" Yi Bai reminded.

The Hanging Ghost patted his chest proudly, "You can count on me, Doctor Yi!"

Yi Bai watched him leave with a look of appreciation, silently reflecting, The world isn't all about fighting and killing. There's also the art of human relationships.

"Next."

As Yi Bai called for the next patient, his gaze briefly flickered over to the three female players, huddled in a corner, feigning unconsciousness.

His eyes narrowed with an unreadable expression. The path was set, and how they walked it now was entirely up to them.

Some paths, though grand and seemingly safe, might hide a deadly cliff at the end. Other paths, rough and humble, could lead to a safe destination.

The next patient, a Decapitated Ghost, arrived. Yi Bai didn't waste time and immediately began the diagnosis.

Thanks to his "Insight" ability, his diagnosis speed was incredible. Perhaps it was due to the Hanging Ghost's "message," but each ghost who came for treatment left with some ghost coins, handed over as a "thank you" for Yi Bai's expertise.

In less than half an hour, Yi Bai had collected nearly a thousand ghost coins, far more than most players could earn from completing multiple tasks. Along the way, he made several ghostly friends, and all parties benefited.

When the twenty-fourth patient had yet to enter, Yi Bai's expression darkened. The three women had "awoken."

One of them feigned shyness and spoke up.

"Yi Bai, we just remembered that we still have unfinished tasks. Though it's safe here, if we don't complete our missions, we can't return to the human world."

"Doctor, we're already grateful for your protection. But we must go complete our tasks. We hope we'll have the chance to return here..." Another woman spoke, her voice tinged with false sadness.

Yi Bai remained expressionless. "Go."

The three women said nothing more, offering their thanks again before supporting each other and leaving.

The door clicked shut with a sharp sound.

Lina's elegant figure slowly appeared in the consulting room, her eyes flashing cold light.

"Though I may have used them, I still gave them a chance, didn't I?" Yi Bai's voice held a hint of cold bitterness as he spoke, "Sadly, they chose the path of no return."

"I'll help you kill them," Lina said, her whole body radiating an icy aura, the surgical knife in her hand glinting coldly.

"No need." Yi Bai shook his head.

Lina blinked, momentarily stunned, before realizing. Her flawless face twisted into a cruel smile. "You're right. He won't let them live anyway..."
