Chapter 24: The Plan is Perfect! Save Them?
"No Secrets Left to Hide"
Yi Bai didn't hold back. He shared every detail of He Yi's actions with the Rose Countess. Given her status, he figured she wouldn't care about the fate of Third Hospital or He Yi's greed. After all, none of that had anything to do with her personally.
However, Ghost Coins were a different matter. They were the currency of the Horror World, and the Rose Countess would never turn down more. After all, Yi Bai had informed her that with just a small gesture on her part, she could earn a tidy sum of Ghost Coins, all without lifting a finger.
As Yi Bai had expected, after hearing his plan, the Rose Countess gave him a look of approval—one that conveyed, "You're a sharp one, aren't you?"—and then agreed without hesitation. She even provided her private number from her castle for Lina, ensuring future communications would be easy.
But, of course, there was a small hiccup in the process.
The mischievous little zombie girl, Jiang Ling, insisted on being part of Yi Bai's plan. And, as it turned out, she managed to snatch a large share of the spoils for herself. The reason? Jiang Ling had an affinity for wealth. As the Mistress of the Graveyard, she had no shortage of resources.
By pure chance, Jiang Ling possessed the body of a deceased Blood Robe Specter, a zombie of terrifying strength.
This discovery completely transformed Yi Bai's original plan. Instead of relying solely on the Rose Countess's fame and position to gain He Yi's trust, Yi Bai now had the perfect bait: the arm of a Blood Robe Specter. This added element made the plan far more foolproof.
As for the spoils... They were split in a "four-three-three" fashion.
Jiang Ling, though a late addition, provided the perfect bait to ensure the plan's success, so she was entitled to 40% of the reward. The Rose Countess, whose influence had been key in the plan's setup, was allocated 30%. Yi Bai also kept 30% for himself, as he had made the most critical moves. Lina, however, declined to take a share, reasoning that she hadn't contributed much.
Yi Bai understood her reasoning and didn't make a fuss. The most important thing was survival. Any reward, no matter how small, would increase his chances. In a world where life and death were so fragile, who had time to be sentimental? If need be, he was ready to embrace the life of a Lich Knight, abandoning all sense of morality for survival.
Back at the Third Hospital:
As Yi Bai walked through the halls, the ghostly patients and monsters eyed him with respect, a far cry from the usual bloodthirsty gaze directed at most humans. Having been recognized and praised by the Rose Countess for his extraordinary medical skills, along with his "Temptation of the Dead" talent, Yi Bai was more than just a doctor to them. He was a figure of influence in the Third Hospital, and most of the other inhabitants were more inclined to see him as an ally than an enemy.
Yi Bai had grown used to navigating through crowds of monsters without fear. But as he headed toward the Director's office to report in, his path was blocked by three disfigured, blood-scented women.
"Please, save us! We beg you, save us!" they cried, dropping to their knees before him.
Without hesitation, Yi Bai recognized them—three female players who were barely holding themselves together. One of them had only one leg left, and the woman who had been silenced by Lina was missing, likely already killed by one of the monsters.
"Please save us! We're willing to pay any price! We just want to survive!" they pleaded.
Their voices were heart-wrenching, the desperation in their words palpable. The other monsters around them were visibly moved, some recalling their own former human lives and sympathizing with the women's plight.
Yi Bai, now a man of considerable influence in the Third Hospital, understood that if he spoke up to protect them, the monsters would probably back him. After all, Yi Bai had the reputation of a healer, and most of the ghosts and creatures in the hospital had their own afflictions.
Seeing the fear and desperation on the players' faces, Yi Bai's emotions remained calm and unaffected. He didn't rush to make a decision but instead took a moment to think things through. After a while, a new idea formed in his mind, one that would further cement his plans.
"Follow me," he said.
The three women immediately brightened with hope, tearfully thanking him as they scrambled to follow him toward his consultation room, leaving behind the hall of monsters.
Inside the consultation room, Yi Bai spoke without turning to face them. "For now, you'll stay here. No monster will dare harm you while you're in this room."
"Thank you, thank you so much!" they cried again, their voices trembling with gratitude as they huddled together in fear.
Meanwhile, the Corpse Eater, his massive form and foul odor unmistakable, loomed near them, staring with dark, hollow eyes. Lina, calmly playing with her surgical knife, observed them with an amused look.
"Forget about them for now. Let's focus on how we can buy that Blood Robe Specter arm from Rose Countess's friend," Yi Bai said, deliberately speaking in a low voice for Lina's ears only.
Lina, although often lost in her own emotions, understood him instantly. With a knowing glance, she pulled the curtain in the middle of the room, cutting off the women's view.
Yi Bai gave her a thumbs up. He knew exactly what she was doing—and why. With the curtain now between them, Yi Bai began to speak in a voice barely above a whisper, laying out his next moves in the plan.
The women, now isolated from Yi Bai's sharp gaze, started to exchange glances. They couldn't help but overhear snippets of conversation—particularly when the words Blood Robe Specter arm reached their ears. Their faces shifted, their curiosity piqued.
