Thriller!Me? The Death Knight

Chapter 22: A Tragedy Sparked by a Single Drop of Blood

In the Hall of the Castle

The atmosphere was tense, thick with the weight of unspoken threats.

The vampire servants surrounding the room had long since grown accustomed to scenes like this. They had witnessed countless similar standoffs between these two 'black-hearted besties' and had long since become numb to the drama that unfolded whenever they were together. Fear and surprise no longer touched them.

But today...

Today, things felt different.

As two formidable beings, both draped in blood-soaked garments, clashed with their domain powers, the atmosphere thickened with an oppressive force. Count Rose, her usual composed demeanor wavering, suddenly felt something shift within her.

The blood magic seal she had placed on Yi Bai's body had activated!

Under normal circumstances, this wouldn't have been an issue. But today...

Her 'black-hearted bestie' was in the room!

What was worse, in a moment of malicious amusement—and to indulge her own twisted curiosity for the taste of that delicious blood—Count Rose had set the magic seal to require a drop of Yi Bai's blood to activate.

That blood wasn't simply to power the magic, no. It was designed to be directly transferred to Count Rose's lips.

And Yi Bai, with his unique ability to allure the dead, had blood that even the most ordinary creatures could not resist. For vampires and zombies, those with a penchant for blood, it was an irresistible temptation.

"Glurp..."

The sound of struggling throats, tight with thirst, filled the hall.

A drop of blood, glowing like ruby-red gemstone, floated in front of Count Rose.

Desire—an all-consuming, insatiable desire!

At that very moment, the vampire servants—who, under normal circumstances, would have been terrified to move a muscle in the face of Count Rose's overwhelming power—could barely contain themselves. Their fangs, previously hidden, emerged, their eyes burning with feverish hunger as they fixed their gaze on the hovering blood drop.

From their throats came raspy, animalistic growls—instincts awakened, barely held in check by the bloodline's natural suppression. Without this restraint, they would have long since torn into one another in a frenzy to claim the blood.

But the zombie girl, her cute, naive appearance belying her true nature, was far less restrained.

Her bright yellow eyes glinted with a hunger that matched any vampire's. Her stiff, porcelain-like face contorted into an expression of desperate longing.

With a flash, she transformed into a shadowy blur, her body supported by monstrous claws made of rotting corpse energy, surging toward the floating blood drop.

But Count Rose, ever prepared, was not caught off guard.

The blood drop, carefully placed within her reach by the magic seal, hovered in front of her. With a cruel, knowing smile, Count Rose flicked out her tongue, catching the blood drop with a swift motion.

The tantalizing aroma of the blood vanished with the movement, as the drop disappeared into her mouth.

"Ah!!! Damn it!!!!"

The zombie girl's shrill scream echoed through the room, her frustration evident.

A wine glass, filled with the blood-red liquid, shattered upon impact with the floor.

Count Rose, her elegance undisturbed, calmly sat back down in her chair, watching as the little zombie threw a tantrum. Her eyes briefly flicked to the servants, who, on seeing the scene, quickly dropped to their knees, their faces pale with fear.

A long silence followed, as the castle fell eerily still.

The servants trembled, bowing their heads to the ground, quivering in terror.

The zombie girl finally returned to her place, her posture stiff but calm now, her yellow eyes still burning with a sense of challenge.

"So, it was the blood of that human doctor, wasn't it?" Her voice rang out, clear and sharp. "Such a fragrant, intoxicating taste! A pity, though... it carries a hint of vampiric flavor."

"Hmph! I know exactly what you're thinking, but I warn you—don't even try it! Otherwise, I'll turn on you, and there will be no going back!" Count Rose's voice was cold, her gaze locking onto the little zombie's with the force of an unspoken threat.

The zombie girl's voice was sweet yet assertive, a sharp contrast to her tiny, cute stature. "What if I don't agree?"

"Then the bond we've shared for all these years will end here," Count Rose replied, her tone now even colder, betraying no emotion.

For a moment, a flicker of surprise crossed the zombie girl's face. She hadn't expected Count Rose to sever ties over something like this.

The taste of the blood had been irresistible, sure, but she never anticipated that Count Rose would go so far as to cut ties for a human's blood.

"Why?" The zombie girl's voice softened, the hint of confusion lacing her words. She knew Count Rose was the type of person who responded better to softness than force.

"There's no why."

But this time, the zombie girl would get no answers. Count Rose would rather die than reveal anything about her personal struggles—especially to someone who enjoyed poking fun at her.

The zombie girl, growing more intrigued by the secrecy, cocked her head, her yellow eyes glimmering mischievously. "Even if you love that blood so much, you shouldn't be giving your First Embrace to a human, should you?

Looks like that human doctor is quite extraordinary! Come on, Rose, tell me... what secret are you hiding from me?"

Count Rose felt three black lines appear across her forehead. Her eyes twitched with irritation as the little zombie suddenly hopped forward and latched onto her arm, pulling out her best attempt at a pout.

If Rose had been less familiar with the zombie girl's true nature, she might have found this behavior endearing. But she knew better. This seemingly harmless, adorable little zombie had lived for centuries—far longer than Count Rose herself—and was as manipulative as they came.

Still, despite the awkwardness of the situation, Count Rose couldn't help but feel a faint sense of accomplishment. After all, who else could make a powerful, bloodthirsty zombie act this way?

"Fine, I'll tell you about the doctor, but you have to promise me one thing: You can't target him, and you can't ask him any questions about me."

Unable to withstand the pouting and playful antics of her 'black-hearted bestie,' Count Rose finally gave in. She would reveal a little of the truth—not for the sake of honesty, but to ensure that her troublesome friend wouldn't cause problems behind her back.

Of course, the bigger reason was that the zombie girl had already noticed the unique allure of Yi Bai's blood. Better to inform her and make sure she kept her promise than risk dealing with a meddling zombie.

The little zombie girl's eyes gleamed with mischief, knowing her victory was near.

"Before you tell me, though," Count Rose said, her eyes narrowing as she looked at the servants, "I think it's time to clean up this place."

With a snap of her fingers, the vampire servants, their powers rivaling that of vengeful spirits, crumbled instantly, their bodies turning to blood-red dust before a single scream could escape them.

The dust scattered in the wind, blown away into the thorny black roses outside the castle. The roses, now blooming even more vibrantly, seemed to exude a stronger, sweeter fragrance than before...
