Thriller!Me? The Death Knight

Chapter 15: Unspoken Secrets: The More Friends, The Easier the Path

"Looks like the deaths of the human players in the morgue were probably caused by him. Should we kill him?"

Lina's voice still echoed in his ears, always taking the perspective of a concerned friend.

For someone two ranks above the ghoul, it would be far too easy for her to end the creature's existence.

"Not yet."

Yi Bai whispered softly, his gaze fixed on the ghoul. It was clear the creature lacked intelligence, and for that, he could afford to speak more freely with Lina.

"What's this about the 'ghoul family' you mentioned? There doesn't seem to be any information about them in the human world."

"Most of the creatures in this world are solitary, but some, like the ghouls, are part of a strong and organized race."

"Are they strong?" Yi Bai asked curiously.

"No, actually, 99% of ghouls are nothing more than the lowest level of undead. However, among such a vast family, there are always exceptions," Lina said with a tone of awe. "The leader of the ghoul race is an entity of the 'Unspoken' level—something terrifying!"

"Unspoken?" Yi Bai blinked, a glimmer of confusion in his eyes. The term was completely new to him.

In all the information provided by the human players, this word had never appeared.

To Yi Bai's knowledge, the blood-clad, cursed ghosts were the highest level of beings they could even interact with.

"Creatures at that level are so powerful that, even at great distances, merely speaking their name can summon their attention and bring down terrible consequences! That's why they are called 'Unspoken.' They can be thought of, but never said. Speak and they will respond!"

When Lina spoke of the Unspoken, her eyes gleamed with a mix of admiration and reverence.

Yet, Yi Bai didn't sense a single trace of fear in her gaze.

For a red-clad ghost, beings more terrifying than the cursed blood-clad ghosts seemed to only inspire awe, not fear.

This made Yi Bai consider her background more deeply. Given the mention of the Rose Count and the mysterious entity behind Lina, it was clear she had ties to something far greater, perhaps even beings of the Unspoken level within her own Death Angel clan.

"Let's not get sidetracked. We need to focus on solving the current problem."

Yi Bai brought his thoughts back to the task at hand, his eyes landing once again on the deformed ghoul. "The real issue is that we can't communicate."

The ghoul still held out the severed head to Yi Bai, its hollow eyes filled with something that could almost be called desire.

It was grotesque, misshapen, and simple-minded—truly the type of creature rejected by both humans and ghosts alike.

Yet in its eyes, Yi Bai could sense an unmistakable longing for friendship.

Hmm... if you could ignore the overwhelming stench, its horrific appearance, and the fact that it was holding a decayed human head...

Well, maybe not "cute" by any stretch, but at least not inherently malicious.

It was hard for Yi Bai to suppress the disgust and offer any sort of kindness to such a creature.

But…

"At least I'm not just anyone!"

Yi Bai pulled out the rubber gloves he had prepared for the task ahead and put them on.

Suppressing his discomfort, he picked up the disgusting, mutilated head and held it by a few strands of hair.

"Though I don't eat this sort of thing, thanks for the offer," he said, glancing at the ghoul's black, empty eyes, which now shone with evident delight.

Yi Bai wasn't sure whether it understood him, but he spoke politely anyway.

Why "accept" the ghoul's offer?

Well, the answer was simple. Yi Bai believed his special ability, "Necrotic Charm," and his god-tier talent, "Eye of Insight," could pave a new path that no other player had walked before.

In the horror game, many players only saw slaughter, death, and struggle for survival. But for Yi Bai?

He wasn't playing to survive—he was playing to heal, to make the game about warmth and connection.

Why engage in endless killing?

After all, as the saying goes, "The more friends you have, the easier the road."

Why couldn't humans and ghosts be friends?

Why should he judge this creature by its appearance, its stink, or its grotesque form?

Yi Bai prided himself on his noble character. He never judged anyone—human or ghost—based on their flaws.

Besides, he wasn't trying to make friends with the ghoul because of the potential "Unspoken" level entity behind its clan. No, not at all.

And considering Lina's own dual nature, who could say for certain that even a rejected, malformed ghoul might not possess some hidden talent or power unknown to normal humans?

Forming a good bond with it couldn't hurt.

Anyway, this particular ghoul was just a pawn for He Yi to use. It had been given scraps to feast on, but Yi Bai suspected the real "goods" the greedy ghost had hoarded were worth far more than anything the ghoul had consumed.

As for the losses to the Third Hospital, Yi Bai wasn't concerned. He wasn't involved in any of that.

Lina was just a nurse; whatever happened, she wouldn't be held accountable.

As Yi Bai's Eye of Insight confirmed, the ghoul's affection had shifted to the level of trust.

Yi Bai was somewhat surprised. A small gesture—taking the head—had transformed the ghoul's relationship with him from "friendly" to "trusting."

"Good grief! How pitiful must you be to earn this level of trust?" Yi Bai thought, shaking his head.

Then, after some effort and a lot of hand signals, Yi Bai finally managed to get the ghoul to follow him.

The ghoul obediently trailed behind, casually tearing off a rotten arm from one of the corpse transporters, gnawing as it walked.

It was a disturbing scene, but Yi Bai remained calm.

With the ghoul under control, He Yi's task for him no longer seemed so difficult.

All of Yi Bai's earlier caution and careful planning with Lina seemed irrelevant now.

However, as Yi Bai began to open the morgue's storage cabinets one by one, his expression slowly darkened.

Nine out of ten were empty!

And the one that remained contained nothing but scraps of skin and fur.

Yi Bai's eyes scanned the row of morgue cabinets, and he felt no urge to continue opening them.

With He Yi's insatiable greed, there was no doubt these other cabinets were in the same state.

The morgue had been ravaged by his greed.

Yi Bai could hardly imagine the extent of the Third Hospital's losses under He Yi's temporary rule.

What terrifying wealth must He Yi have amassed in private?

As Yi Bai narrowed his eyes, a strange glimmer sparked in his gaze.
