The Young Urban Doctor

Chapter 1820: Sentiments

Yang Qingyin was naturally startled. She was immersed in historical emotions and intended to have a good discussion about history with Luo Ziling in front of Duke Yue's temple. Luo Ziling's sudden action scared her half to death.

But when Luo Ziling blocked her, she saw a man in black, who had been quickly approaching from a distance, immediately turn around and leave.

"What happened?" Yang Qingyin seemed a bit shaken.

"It was probably someone with ill intentions towards us. Seeing that we were on our guard, they decided to abandon their plan." Luo Ziling pulled Yang Qingyin to the side of the wall and said with a solemn expression, "Someone was definitely following us."

"How could this be?"

"It's a good thing," Luo Ziling smiled, "I don't believe this person can get away."

Yang Qingyin glanced at Luo Ziling and understood what was going on.

Ye Xiaoli went to handle some matters. When they entered the Yuewang Temple, the other three bodyguards also went in with them.

These people were secretly protecting them, but besides Ye Xiaoli, the other three never showed themselves, so those with malicious intent might not know of their presence.

When the man in black quickly left, Luo Ziling noticed that two bodyguards disguised as tourists nearby had already followed him swiftly.

Luo Ziling was also quite familiar with the skills of these three bodyguards; they were only second to Yang Xiaodong and Wang Zhenjun, all top-notch experts.

After the two bodyguards went after the man, the other bodyguard immediately approached Luo Ziling, who also called Ye Xiaoli to come over quickly.

Ye Xiaoli was already on her way, and after receiving the summons from Luo Ziling, she appeared in front of them in less than five minutes.

As Ye Xiaoli arrived, the other two bodyguards also sent word that they had subdued the person planning the attack and were questioning him.

After hearing Luo Ziling's introduction, Ye Xiaoli pondered seriously and then whispered a reminder, "Could it be that our enemies purposely pushed this person out to confuse us and make us misjudge?"

"Very likely!" Luo Ziling nodded, "Let's wait and see what they find out."

He then called to Yang Qingyin, "Let's continue our tour and not let these little issues ruin our mood. Honestly, these people are really not afraid of trouble, always keeping tabs on us even when we're just out for fun. Don't they realize that their little tricks can't really harm us? Who knows, they might just be doing us a favor in the end!"

"Helping you with publicity," Yang Qingyin chuckled, "Shall we check what came of this morning's incident?"

"We'll look tonight. Anyway, Yuqing is always tracking these things. If anything major happens, do you think she could resist telling us?"

"True," Yang Qingyin nodded, "Let's just continue with our fun then!"

Seeing Yang Qingyin also relaxing, Luo Ziling smiled, "Let's go admire General Yue's deeds."

The two left the Yue Tomb and headed to the Yue Fei's Deeds Exhibition Hall to view the exhibits.

In front of Sha Menghai's "The River All Red" work, Yang Qingyin stopped, pulling Luo Ziling along.

"Junior, can you write with Sha Menghai's grandeur?"

"In this lifetime, I can't reach his heights," Luo Ziling shook his head, "He is a true master, his characters are truly soaked in personality. One needs experience and a certain state of mind to write with presence. My characters now merely have form, but lack that sense."

"If you have the presence you speak of, I'm sure you can master it. You're not an ordinary person," Yang Qingyin praised Luo Ziling and then seriously suggested, "You should practice writing more, so your handwriting improves. By the way, can I help keep your calligraphy after you practice?"

"That's your real motive, isn't it?" Luo Ziling pinched Yang Qingyin's nose, "I know my handwriting is already quite appreciated. It's even more popular now. If it were to be auctioned, it could fetch quite a bit."

"If it's for charity, your work could sell for quite a bit," Yang Qingyin laughed slyly, "But as agreed, I'll keep your creations. Or we could collaborate: I'll paint, you inscribe. How does that sound?"

"Good idea," Luo Ziling agreed, "Honestly, I haven't seen you paint yet."

"Then, why don't we climb Baoshi Mountain tomorrow and paint there?"

"Sounds good," Luo Ziling agreed, "From Baoshi Mountain, we can see the full panoramic view of West Lake. How about we paint that view?"

"It'll be quite a test of painting skills!" Yang Qingyin didn't refuse.

"Then tomorrow we'll head to Baoshi Mountain, but for now, let's stroll down the Su Causeway."

"Alright!"

The two walked past the hall exhibiting "The River All Red" and went to learn about Yue Fei's life stories.

"The Song dynasty was actually Huaxia's tragedy." During their tour, Luo Ziling couldn't help but express his thoughts.

"After the An-Shi Rebellion in the Tang Dynasty, even though the national strength significantly declined, foreign invaders still couldn't threaten the Central Plains. Just one regional military governor could suppress those foreign invaders. The emperors of the Song Dynasty were very concerned about the disorder of regional military governors, and coupled with their ill-gotten power, they feared rebellion from generals. So, at the beginning of the dynasty, they discharged most of the generals. The status of military generals in the Song Dynasty was low, with civil officials completely dominating them, and the military had poor combat effectiveness, almost disarming themselves. In the Tang Dynasty, there was no Great Wall, but Hu People rarely crossed its line to invade the Central Plains, because most wars in the Tang Dynasty were offensive campaigns beyond the Great Wall, so the Great Wall didn't serve much of a barrier role."

"And during the Song Dynasty, the border line didn't even reach the Great Wall," Yang Qingyin picked up Luo Ziling's line, "The Sixteen Prefectures of Yan and Yun only briefly returned after their alliance with the Mongols to extinguish the Jin, and soon were lost again."

"Indeed, the Song Dynasty's emphasis on culture over military directly emasculated the Han People's spirit. Men lost their bravery and pursued the elegance of literati. Faced with the Hu people's cavalry raids, they ultimately lost the nation, and Han culture was castrated too," Luo Ziling lamented, "During the Tang Dynasty, a Han man fighting a Hu man one-on-one would never come out worse. Men then believed in winning fame on horseback. Even a great scholar like Li Bai loved to travel with a sword, hoping to join the army to serve the nation. Many officials in the Tang Dynasty were genuinely capable of being generals on horseback and ministers off it. The Tang's great generals were like a galaxy, while in over three hundred years of the Song Dynasty, notable generals were few. At the early Song, Cao Bin and Pan Mei were decent, but after them, there were hardly any until after the Jingkang disaster when figures like Yue Fei emerged."

"You know a lot about history! Why not become a teacher in our history department?" suggested Yang Qingyin, whose major was history. She loved discussing history with Luo Ziling, and since they rarely had this chance today, she was very enthusiastic, completely forgetting the earlier incident, and couldn't help but tease him.

This earned her an eye-roll from Luo Ziling.
