Chapter 9: Mesmer's Descendant
3 days passed in the blink of an eye.
Adam went through a monotonous routine of waking up, drinking the concoction, writhing in pain for an hour, cleaning his bathroom, eating the food brought in by Francis, rinsing, and repeating.
He followed this schedule every single day, 3 times a day until finally, his body had been completely purified of all impurities.
Adam viewed his stat window.

It seemed that all of his stats had increased by 20 except for MANA, CHARM, and MIND.
MANA only increased by 10 whereas, CHARM and MIND increased by 50 each.
It was quite obvious where the talents of this body he had inhabited lay.
Once again, however, Adam was quite disheartened by the mental comparison he made of himself with the protagonist Jake.
Where Jake had got 50 stat points for every stat, Adam only managed to gain 20.
The difference in talent between him and the protagonist was obvious.
Adam didn't dwell on his inadequacies for too long however, it was time to plan his next moves.
Adam stared at his new and changed self in the mirror.
All the fat all over his body had completely vanished in a matter of days. It was almost as if he had taken Ozempic on steroids.
He looked closely at his body. He looked like nothing more than skin and bones.
It was impressive how little muscle his predecessor had on his body.
The aim of the marrow cleansing concoction was to rid the body of all impurities including fat and leaving nothing but pure muscle.
Currently, Adam's body stands at an impressive 5% body fat percentage.
While he was much stronger than before, he didn't like looking at his body in such a poor state, completely devoid of muscle mass.
If you were to remove his skin right now, he would look like a level 1 skeleton, the most basic undead that can be made by tier 1 dark mages.
He adorned his noble suit, making a mental note to never let his bare body show until he gained a good amount of muscle mass, reminiscent of his body from his last life.
There was a silver lining to all of this.
Adam's face looked exquisite.
Before, he had chubby cheeks making his face look like a makeshift football.
Now his face looked like that of a model with a well-defined jawline and cheekbones protruding outwards giving him a sharp aesthetic.
This coupled with his signature white hair, white hair was so impeccable that they looked translucent. In the sun, they seemed to refract the light rays of the sun, making his hair look like they were shining.
The hair had the same effect when in the presence of any light source. This was a physical trait he had inherited from his mother.
Unfortunately, it seemed like he was unable to inherit his mother's enchanting purple eyes that were a signature of her bloodline.
Adam didn't dwell on it for too long and turned towards the door to his room that was being knocked on.
"Come in."
As Adam said this, Henrietta walked into the room. Looking at her master's changed new self, she froze with her eyes popped out.
Adam felt a sense of déjà vu, he felt that he had experienced this situation once before.
He thought back to everything that happened between him and Henrietta in the past 3 days.
After waking up from her slumber in the morning Henrietta seemed to have become shy and overly conscious of herself in Adam's presence. A stark contrast to her deadpan expressions that she had previously maintained on her face 24/7.
While the visible emotions on her face were an improvement from her previous state, Adam didn't like the idea of his only servant being shy.
He hatched another plan, making her leave her shyness behind by making her speak of topics she was very passionate about.
The topic inevitably ended up being stories about Adam's mother.
Henrietta went on and on about all the good times she had with his mother when Henrietta was just a little kid, she went on and on for hours reminiscing about those tales of the past and naturally felt more comfortable around Adam as the 3 days had passed.
During this time period, Adam made sure that Henrietta had properly eaten all her meals along with him and also made a workout routine for her to follow so that she could improve the state of her body as well as her competency.
This was the first time since Henrietta had started serving him that he showed any sort of concern or care for her which naturally made her feel happy, almost as if the spirit of Madam Hannah had inhabited her master's body.
Again, most of the wild fantasies she had about their current situation was completely delusional but, at least she felt happy now.
That was the most important part to Adam.
A Henrietta that was happy with him, won't kill him.
Adam did a clap enhanced with [OSCILLATOR] to bring her out of her daze. If Adam could read her thoughts right now, he would once again, want his head to become one with the wall right in front of him.
'Young Master's face looks so sharp and beautiful, just like Madam Hannah's face in my memory.'
'Was my prediction true? Did Madam Hannah really take over Young Master's body so that he wouldn't bring shame to her memory and decided to take control of her son's situation?'
'Doesn't this mean that if the Young Master were to pat me on the head for doing a good job it would actually be Lady Hannah patting my head like how she did when I was little?'
Our lovely deluded maid was as delusional as ever.
I think we can all agree that Adam's biggest blessing right now was that he couldn't read anyone's thoughts.
Henrietta coming out of her daze because of the clap said," Young Master, I came to tell you that the Count, Young Master Cory, Young Master Theodore and Madam Brianna have left the Duke's Estate and will get back home by tomorrow night.
While Adam had taken a singular trailer truck for his journey, the rest of the Count family would be returning in a parade formation.
A custom followed by the nobles of the empire whenever they were traveling to a noble gathering that they were invited to.
Was it inconvenient for the average commoners of the empire that huge parade like formations of noble vehicles are clogging up the road making day by day travel tedious?
Yes, of course it was inconvenient and annoying.
But, this wasn't something to get angry over, this is something Adam had seen too many times in his past life.
The government officials of different countries, the politicians, the rich aristocrats and political donors all had systems in place that would prioritize their safety and comfort over the average citizen of the country that lived there.
If you lost your composure over something so simple, you were probably a greenhorn who had lived in their parents basement and had never experienced real life before.
This is one of the constant rules of human society,
'You're either in the cool club or you're a nobody.'
The same was the case in this magical world.
No matter how many technological advances you make, how many magical spells you create, how many sky scrapers you built, human nature is still human nature.
Since they were coming back in a parade they would naturally take a longer time to return. This worked in Adam's favor.
There were 3 weeks left before the entrance exam of the academy began.
Adam had planned to take Henrietta with him and leave the estate by tomorrow.
He never wanted to come back here.
He had already made plans on how to be disowned by the Count but those were plans for the near future.
Adam decided to deal with his issues as they came.
After discussing tomorrow's plans with Henrietta, he sent her off to rest.
At first, when he told Henrietta of the plan, she was taken aback and scared of the repercussions that would ensue, if her Young Master's plans fell to the wayside.
Regardless of her doubts, she chose to trust Adam. It didn't make sense to him why she would trust the plans of someone who had been a waste for 90% of his life.
Once again, our villai-, our hero showed us how clueless he was to the technicalities of the engine that is a maiden's heart.
Even the narrator sometimes questions how Adam managed to become such a successful womanizer in his past life.
Maybe it is the cluelessness that gave him an edge over other men around him, not taking anything away from his rocking body, made from constant training in the gym and his insane diet that would make a normal person have a midlife crisis every time they tried it.
Regardless of why Henrietta chose to trust him, all that mattered to Adam was that she was coming with him.
It was now time for the main event right before this journey of his started in the earnest.
Adam took out one of the only mythical items in the game, [Mesmer's Eye]{EX} .
The rank given to this item made Adam furrow his brows, he had never seen this rank in the game throughout the countless, repeated playthroughs that he did of the game for the decade this game lasted.
What did EX rank entail? He knew that this rank existed in other games and in those games this rank represented a state beyond legendary, the mythical realm of the gods.
He chose to think back to the information he had about Adam and the eye from the original game.
Adam had gotten the Mesmer's Eye as a keepsake from his deceased mother. We don't know how or why she had it with her and gave it to her son before she died.
Adam looked at the item in question.
It was a glass jar that had preserved the eye with some transparent liquid that the jar was filled with, the eye floating in the middle of the fluid, unable to drown to the base of the jar.
Adam recalled that in the original game after constant attempts of Cassandra trying to make Adam jealous by getting closer to the protagonist, all just to make Adam attack the protagonist and his people, so that it would create a power vacuum in the academy for her to take over, had driven Adam to the brink of insanity.
He went to a blacksmith, turned Mesmer's Eye into an amulet and used it to mind control people to do his bidding and attack the protagonist to hopefully kill him.
When Adam dies after his boss fight you get to loot his body and take Mesmer's amulet for yourself. But the rank of the amulet once Jake got it was only A rank and it was destroyed by the Head Mistress of the academy in a subsequent cutscene along with the eye.
This meant that turning this eye into an amulet had actually degraded the item's value by quite a bit.
He wanted to ask the system what to do with the eye.
|| HOST I CAN TELL YOU WHAT TO DO WITH THE EYE BUT THAT INFORMATION WILL COST YOU 60CE. ||
Adam had exactly 60 CE left over it's almost as if the system wanted him to go bankrupt.
Adam chose to ignore any negative thoughts about this deal since any information of the first ever EX rank item was worth it.
|| TRANSACTION HAS BEEN COMPLETED. ||
|| SYSTEM TIP: HOST, JUST EAT THE EYE. SOMETHING INTERESTING WILL HAPPEN. ||
Adam stared into nothing for a good 5 minutes with his mouth wide open.
The information that the system had given him had truly stumped him this time.
If Henrietta were to see him in such a state, she would wonder if the spirit of Madam Hannah had left her Young Master's body and he was nothing more than a hollow shell now.
'The system wants me to eat the eye?'
'Wasn't Mesmer one of the greatest heroes of humanity a 1000 years ago when the demon lord had descended into the world?'
'If I remember correctly Mesmer was the only human being who had great connections with every race that lived in this world including the conservative elven and dragon races as well.'
'In the end, it was said in the history books that he had ended up falling from grace and sided with the demons, making several kingdoms of humanity fall through his influence, weakening the human race against the demons.'
'In the end, all the heroes of the human race had to come together to slay Mesmer and the demon lord behind him.'
'Wait a minute, wasn't Mesmer a human? Wouldn't I become a cannibal if I eat this eye?'
[ SYSTEM TIP: THE HOST NEED NOT WORRY ABOUT SUCH MEANINGLESS CONCERNS. BY THE END OF HIS LIFE, MESMER HAD GAINED THE BLOODLINE AND PHYSICAL TRAITS OF EVERY RACE IN THIS WORLD AND BECAME A GIANT.
YOU WOULDN'T BE EATING HUMAN ORGANS, YOU WOULD BE EATING THE ORGANS OF MULTIPLE SPECIES.
THE SYSTEM FAILS TO UNDERSTAND WHY SOMEONE WITHOUT A CONSCIENCE LIKE THE HOST WOULD SUDDENLY CARE ABOUT SUCH A MEANINGLESS MORAL DILEMMA. ]
In the end, the system did manage to put Adam's mind at ease. Since when did he care about things like morals and ethics?
If eating this weirdly large sized eye made him stronger, of course he would eat it.
Without another thought to spare, Adam opened the jar, grabbed the eye and swallowed it whole.
As anyone with a brain would expect, Adam fainted instantly with his body sprawled across his bed.
Let this be a lesson to all, never ingest eyes more than a 100 years old.
