Chapter 18: Henrietta's Days Of Constant Confusion
When Henrietta woke up after a good night's rest.
She felt like she was on cloud nine. Yesterday, she had spent the entire day roaming the markets and admiring Brahken's scenery.
It was truly a fascinating town with amazing technological advancements in architecture yet it fit right in with the rest of the empire.
She had a great day wandering around the city through the industrial area that had magical formations surrounding it that utilized wind magic to never let any of the smoke enter the residential areas of the city.
She then went to the market and ate many local delicacies as well. She even went to some clothing stores and got a pair of new maid dresses for herself since she had worn the same one for multiple years now which was dry cleaned every single day through magic.
All in all, it was a wonderful day for Henrietta and she was very thankful to her master for giving her a chance to explore a city she had never been to.
It helped untie a lot of knots in her heart which were caused by her being constantly suppressed by everyone around her in the Dacre Estate.
You could say that this outing had been quite therapeutic for her.
The atmosphere of the entire city was very busy and people were constantly on the move, the current of people moving from one place to another was in constant motion.
However, by the evening something had changed.
Everyone in the city had started to group up together everywhere in the street. All of them seemed to be talking about the same topic.
One civilian said to another," Did you see that mysterious nobleman at the market today? My wife and daughter can't seem to stop talking about him."
The other one replied," Oh it's such a drag, I was out on a date with this girl I liked for more than 3 years and the date was finally going great, the moment she saw that noble man she couldn't take her eyes off of him and after he had left she kept daydreaming while I tried talking to her. It was our 17th date and I thought I finally had a chance to sleep with her, guess I can kiss that dream goodbye now."
Henrietta got curious about who they seemed to be talking about, it's rare for there to be someone who looked so great that his beauty would affect everyone.
As she moved on, she overheard a couple of women talking to each other about the incident in the market that seemed to involve the nobleman she had just heard of.
"Did you see him today? His way of speaking is so polite and refined, it's like every word that comes out of his mouth is poetry."
"These noblemen are something else, my guy is so illiterate he can't even form a sentence together without saying 'like' 20 times."
"His speaking capabilities are amazing but did you see his sharp jawline??? Oh, I wish he would use that jaw to put cuts all over my body...."
"It's not just his jawline did you see his eyes? I have never seen someone with eyes as dreamy as his, just looking into them for a second made me forget all about why I came to the market in the first place."
All of these women seemed to be fawning over this noble man who they seemed to have come across in the market.
Henrietta didn't think much of what they were saying because she had a firm belief that just having looks isn't enough, a man needs to have integrity and needs to be dependable as well.
Looks are only important for initial attraction, what matters more is how it's like to spend time with them in the long run. A superficial relationship can only last as long as you can ignore everything that's within that shell.
While she was having philosophical epiphanies in her head, Henrietta overheard the ladies say something that destroyed the epiphany in her head.
"But I wonder, I have never heard of a noble house where the members have purple eyes. Which noble house could he be from?"
Henrietta stopped in her tracks, she moved towards them joining in on their conversation.
"Excuse me, could you please tell me about this nobleman and where you found him?"
One of the women looked at Henrietta and said, "Oh my you're a really pretty young lady you are nearly as good-looking as the man we saw today, you might just have a chance with him!"
"I think the Noble Man's temperament is great too! Did you see how he helped out that dirty old beggar in the market?"
"I couldn't even bring myself to go near such a dirty person. The nobleman must have a heart of gold to look past that dirty exterior and see them as human."
The rest of the conversation was nothing but made-up fantasies by the woman about how they would spend the night with the nobleman.
While there was nothing wrong with doing so, for some reason Henrietta felt that she was getting angrier and angrier as she heard their fantasies with her Young Master.
She chose to fake a smile and bid them farewell.
Complex thoughts filled her head while she made her way through the bustling city.
She made it back to her room and saw the note left for her by the young master.
She was worried at first about why he had to stay out all night but ended up getting rid of those worries because she had seen the change in Adam and how much more reliable he had become. She believed he wouldn't do anything reckless.
She ate dinner and went to sleep, it was a peaceful night for her after a tiring yet fun day.
She woke up in the morning seeing her Young Master sleeping soundly beside her.
She didn't wake him up because she believed he had come back to the room much later at night and needed some more rest.
Little did she know that the entirety of Brahken had turned upside down at night while she was asleep, all because of her young master's recklessness.
To pass the time through the morning she went down to the hotel lobby to watch some news on the television down there since she didn't want to disturb Adam's sleep.
A large group of people staying at the hotel were all sitting together in the hotel lobby watching the news on the big screen.
"Good morning to the people of the empire, it is I, Shaun Hannidy from Empire Times and today we have some breaking news to cover."
"Last night, in Brahken the city under the rule of the Empire's Hero Archmage Ivrea Arlae, had a large disaster coming its way when an army of 100k skeletal knights were seen in Brahken's cemetery. "
The host then went on to show pictures of all the skeletal knights in the cemetery, they seemed to have been clicked by someone on guard duty who was present at the scene of the incident.
"Sources say that a confrontation occurred between a man with purple eyes and the skeletal knights which ended up resulting in a large explosion of dark mana that ended up turning the entire cemetery into a crater."
Images were then shown of a half-burnt man walking out of the crater, the only distinct feature that could be made out from the blurry images was the purple eyes that seemed to glow at night.
"We now have a statement from the archmage himself thanking the purple-eyed hero of Brahken and stating that he had already met with the man in question after the incident was over. The archmage refuses to disclose the identity of the individual."
The breaking news telecast was now over, and the guests at the hotel started to discuss the news with each other.
"Young miss, aren't you the companion of the purple-eyed nobleman?"
After being recognized by the mob Henrietta was being congratulated and was bombarded with questions about Adam.
She excused herself from the hotel lobby and locked herself in her room.
It was now the afternoon. Adam still hadn't woken up. Henrietta wasn't worried because he was still breathing.
Suddenly there was a knock on the door.
She opened the door and saw someone she hadn't expected to see for the rest of her life.
It was none other than Mia Ivrea Arlae who had come with a healer and a knight.
"Henrietta, it's been a while since I last saw you. Is Adam present in the room?"
Seeing Mia caused Henrietta's mood to sour.
The last time they had talked was when Mia was trying to coerce her into leaving Adam and becoming a servant of House Ivrea Arlae instead.
Mia's reasoning for this was that Henrietta was too good of a servant for Adam and that he didn't deserve her.
The real reason was already known to Henrietta. Mia was only doing it spitefully to hurt Adam.
Henrietta's expression changed into a cold yet bright smile, she gave a bow and said,"Young Miss, Young Master Adam is currently asleep and is unable to meet you please come back some other time."
Without letting Mia say anything, Henrietta shut the door in her face.
Mia was quite saddened by this action but she really wanted to help Adam in any way she could.
Her father had already turned Adam into a hero of the city by working with the Empire News Network.
She had to do something for Adam as well otherwise she couldn't forgive herself for the rest of her life.
It took her a long time but she finally realised that the issue was with her, she was too prideful and refused to look at Adam's perspective for all these years.
She quickly wrote a note and slid it under the door and left after a loud knock.
Henrietta looked at the note that was left below the door. It was Mia's phone details along with a message telling her to call her if she faces any issues during her stay in Brahken.
Henrietta threw it in the trash instantly not thinking she would ever need to call such a self-serving person.
Henrietta went down to the hotel restaurant and enjoyed dinner while her Young Master slept.
Many people tried to talk to her trying to ask for information on Adam, the purple-eyed Hero of Brahken.
The crowd got bigger and bigger, and Henrietta saw no way out of it.
Suddenly, A big hulking dark-skinned bald man came into the hotel restaurant and stomped on the ground so hard everyone heard it.
Everyone turned their head towards the source of the sound.
There stood a bald man wearing the iconic uniform of the Raikiri Guild. The only difference between this uniform and the others was that this one was entirely white with black outlines.
The bald man said, "If someone wants to bother that young lady, they need to set up an appointment with me first, her secretary."
All of a sudden everyone backed away from Henrietta and left the hotel premises.
The man turned out to be none other than the Vice Guild Master of the Raikiri Guild, Pavel Dahmer.
Nobody wanted to mess with me and he was easily identifiable with his shiny bald head.
He walked towards Henrietta and said, "Once you're done eating, come to the hallway that leads to your room. There is someone you need to meet there."
Henrietta looked at home with a blank stare, she had no idea who this man was but he had helped her out so she chose to do as he said after she finished her food.
Henrietta made her way to the door of her room. From the dark end of the hallway, A woman with unusual black clothes and black boots could be seen walking towards her.
Once Henrietta was facing that woman, the woman tilted her head making peace signs with both her hands, and said,"Henlo! I'm a friend of Adam and I'm here to do something he told me to do."
Henrietta was confused, she was the person who had spent the most time with Adam more than anyone else since his mother died.
She had never seen this unusually dressed woman before.
Henrietta chose to remain calm and asked,
"Umm, what was it that the Young Master told you to do?"
"Well, Adam told me to put someone near you for your protection so here!" Anita waved her hand vertically after saying this and a pocket-sized bell popped out on top of Henrietta's head out of nowhere.
"Whenever you feel like you're in trouble or a dangerous situation, just ring that bell, and that bald man will be there to help you out!"
With these words, Anita snapped her fingers. The space around her warped and she vanished into thin air right in front of Henrietta's eyes.
Henrietta was befuddled by what had just transpired in front of her. She chose to keep the bell in her pocket and trust the woman since the bell looked like an expensive magic artifact.
She made a note in her head to ask Adam about everything once he woke up tomorrow.
The night passed, and Henrietta woke up.
Adam was still unconscious and hadn't woken up.
She got worried, so she brought out the note she had thrown in the trash and called the number on it through the telephone in the room since she didn't have a mana phone of her own.
"Mia, the Young Master hasn't woken up for over a day. I don't know what happened to him I need help."
"What? Adam hasn't woken up? Wait a moment I will be right there."
An hour later Mia made her way to the room with 3 healers.
She told the healers to check Adam's condition.
The healers sent mana through Adam's body, checking its state, the healers were done after several minutes and had a worried expression on their face.
"Lady Mia, it makes no sense, how can someone who has his entire nervous system destroyed along with all of his muscles torn, still be alive?"
Mia's eyes popped wide open as she heard about Adam's condition.
While panicking, she made a call.
"Anita quickly get to Adam's room his condition is horrible!"
Suddenly the space behind Mia warped and Anita walked out of it.
"Mia I was already here, I was here since before you came."
"If you were here before me, you should have known about Adam's condition right?"
"Yeah, I had already checked and made preparations to heal him."
With another snap of her finger, the space in the empty corner of the room tore apart and a bald man with a shiny head popped out of it.
Anita said,"Pavel, grab Adam and bring him to the healing chamber. You two grab my hands, we will teleport there."
Pavel grabbed Adam's unconscious body and jumped out of the window of the room.
Mia and Henrietta grabbed Anita's hand and teleported to the healing chamber.
During all the commotion, it seemed that they had completely forgotten about the healers who just looked at each other cluelessly in the empty room.
