The Villain Can't Catch A Break

It was now 5:30 AM. Adam crawled through the main lobby, and he caused a commotion in the main lobby.

His bloodied body crawling through the floor looked terrifying, the receptionist was terrified, she pressed the button for the alarm thinking the criminal was trying to escape but suddenly orders from her higher up came, telling her to let the man go and help him however she could.

Adam looked at the receptionist with eyes that looked through her eyes into her soul, witnessing her biggest fears, about to use them against her.

Even though the man in front of her seemed to be on the floor crawling, she still felt that he was incredibly dangerous.

"GIVE ME A CANE NOW!"

"EIIKK!"

The receptionist jumped back in fear at the terrifying voice that came out of the man on the floor and made her way to get a cane for the man.

Her hands were shaking so much that the cane she had grabbed for Adam escaped her grip and rolled on the floor towards Adam.

Adam took this as another humiliation from the Duke since Adam was completely unaware of how terrifying he looked at the time and how it was affecting the receptionist in front of him.

Adam made a proclamation.

"Gavin, you piece of sh*t I will get back at you for all of this humiliation."

The entire spectacle was on display for the Duke as he sat in his office viewing the camera feed, he could finally see Adam being honest with himself, Adam was extremely angry at everything that had transpired tonight.

Anita said as she stood beside Gavin," I think our little trooper is a little too angry right now, let me go and give him a helping hand."

After saying that, the space around Anita warped and she vanished into the portal she had just opened.

Gavin had known from the start that Adam was angry at him, he didn't understand why he had to fake politeness, Gavin would have let him vent all that anger out on anyway.

What Gavin didn't know was that Adam didn't have the freedom to act as he pleased.

Adam tried to grab onto the cane to try and support him with standing up and walking, Sadly for him, his muscles had no strength left, so much so that he couldn't even get a hold of the cane in his hands, the cane would just slip out of his hands and fall to the floor.

This only further enraged Adam, he hated the pathetic state he was in, and he hated feeling this weak.

He grabbed onto the cane, unable to stand with it, and crawled his way out of the tower.

As he finally made it outside, he saw a system notification pop up.

|| YOU ARE IN THE PRESENCE OF A FIERCE STRONG WOMAN WHO HAS ALREADY SEEN YOUR COOL SIDE. [WOMANIZER] ACTIVATING TO AID THE HOST IN IMPRESSING HER EVEN MORE. ||

Suddenly Adam could feel strength returning to his hollow husk of a body.

His eyes darted around the empty street, the sun had yet to peek out of the horizon, and the fact that the system told him a woman was here only meant one thing.

'Anita is here.....'

Anita Hopkins was the guild master of the Raikiri Guild whom Adam knew he would meet sooner or later now that Garum had seen what Adam had done at the cemetery.

'Her being here means she was hidden in the Duke's room while the entire debacle took place and the Duke went on his sadistic tirade.'

Suddenly, the space in front of Adam warped, and a grown woman with sleek black hair and black eyes, with an incredibly developed body.

'Are those mountains of the revered S rank?'

Adam couldn't see the rest of her face as the mountains were blocking half of her face as he was still on the ground.

Anita was the only character who had such a unique outfit in the entire game, she wore a black turtleneck on top of which she wore a black leather jacket along with black jeans and black boots, the beauty of her face was further enhanced by the silver earrings that had her guild's symbol on them.

The diamond on those earrings shined as the moonlight reflected from it.

It wouldn't be an understatement if Adam were to say that she had stars beside her head.

Anita moved her head down, to look at Adam on the ground, and with a bright smile as she brought her hand out to help Adam up she said," It seems like someone is in dire need of help, how about I get you to where you want to go."

Normally, Adam would have grabbed her hand and let her help him, but Adam had other plans since he knew what had transpired behind the scenes.

Adam got up on his own with the aid of [WOMANIZER], he stood up straight without any issues as if he wasn't just crawling on the floor just now.

Looking directly into Anita's eyes with an indifferent look on his face he said," Anita Hopkins, has anyone ever told you that sometimes you resemble a bloodthirsty hyena?"

Before Adam could even blink his eye, he could feel a dagger poke against his neck.

A drop of blood trickled down his neck into his chest, Adam's expression didn't change.

"What? You think I didn't know you were hiding in that room with Pavel, witnessing the Duke go on with his sadistic tirade? If you are such a good soul that you wanted to help me so badly, why didn't you help me before?"

Anita ignored what Adam said and focused on the biggest question in her mind. "How did you know what I look like when I have never shown my real face to the public and we have never met before?"

"Is the guild master of Raikiri experiencing some mental issues? You warped through space and telephoned right in front of me at the perfect moment when I would be at my most vulnerable, the guild master is very close to The Archmage, and I was being tailed by a thief from your guild at the cemetery. Do I need to go on or is your curiosity satiated?"

Anita ignored Adam's question and instead asked another question,"Why are you standing straight all of a sudden when we both know how bad the state of your body is?"

"It's because it's pathetic for a man to show his weak side in front of a pretty woman."

Adam managed to get a laugh out of Anita.

"Pfft-, haha is it really okay for you to make jokes like that while you have a dagger to your neck?"

"Well if you're gonna kill me, could you hurry up? I need to get back to my hotel room for some much-needed rest."

"Hahaha... you won't be dying today Adam."

Anita removed the blade of the dagger from his neck.

"The heavens have blessed me today as the maiden didn't choose to kill me, I'm truly fortunate." Adam was as sarcastic as someone could have been.

"Haha, you're on a roll right now Adam, it's just that my instincts told me you were dangerous, the dagger to your neck was just a reflex."

"It's really easy to make excuses when you're in a position of power isn't it?"

"Can you blame me? You look really threatening and scary right now Adam."

"Are you sure you're eyes are working correctly? How can a man who is crawling on the ground be threatening or scary?"

"When that same man suddenly gets up on his own two feet without any issues isn't that scary?"

"Alright I concede, that might have looked scary, but that doesn't explain why you felt threatened by a weak junior when you had already known that I didn't have an ounce of mana in my body."

"I don't know Adam, there's just something about you, that makes me feel as if you could kill me at any time if you felt like it."

Anita's instincts were right, if Adam wanted to, he could kill everyone in the human domain. Even if the way he would kill them was cowardly and pathetic, he could still do it.

"Well I appreciate the compliment but I have to go and rest now. It was horrible talking to you, after a conversation with you I have even less blood than I did before. As expected from the guild master of the bloodsucking guild, a master of her craft."

Anita had always enjoyed casual fun conversations like these with other people but the issue was that she had to hide her true face to protect the people she cared about.

There were plenty of forces in this world that would want to harm or blackmail the guild master of one of the top 5 guilds.

People were either trying to be polite just to get closer to her or constantly walking on eggshells around her, causing her to feel a constant sense of loneliness which only went away when she spent time with her old friends, this conversation with Adam was like a breath of fresh air for her.

"Hey, wait I won't try to blackmail you by taking advantage of your weakness I just want to help you reach your destination. You can get there in an instant if you let me teleport you."

"If I were to teleport with you, you would be able to mark me and track my location at all times. Don't think you can fool me that easily."

"Eh? Do you even know about my hidden abilities? How do you know that?"

"If you want to help me reach home so bad, walk with me. I want someone to talk to so that I can calm down. As for how I know, find that out yourself Guild Master."

Anita's curiosity for Adam only grew further. He was such an interesting individual, crawling on the ground at one point and walking like he was completely fine seconds later. He knew things about her she hadn't ever told anyone, his confidence when he made jokes with her made it seem like he had known her for a long time and knew exactly what she liked.

"Alright then, I can walk you back to your hotel, come hold my hand so that you don't fall to the ground when you lose your strength."

"Heh, it's impossible for me to lose my strength in front of a woman."

Adam really liked Anita as a character back when he played the game, she was a 7th circle mage with the rare spatial attribute who ended up being killed because the gods wanted to use her death to motivate the protagonist to avenge her death.

'I won't let the gods do as they please this time.'

This conversation with her made him forget the terrible things he had just been through.

He wanted to spend more time with her but he could feel his strength giving away even with the help of [WOMANIZER].

They walked all the way back to his hotel, getting to know Anita like this as if she was a real person with a real-life felt surreal and really helped Adam take his mind off the impending chaos that would be unleashed upon this world.

They stopped at the entrance to his hotel. It was 6 am now. The sunrise had started to light up the sky above them.

"If you want me to owe you, look after my servant Henrietta. She needs help much more than I do."

"Alright Adam, I will put some people near her to make sure she is safe."

"I appreciate the help, a few days later I will come to you with a lot of equipment to sell. Be ready with money because I don't think you will have enough funds at hand to buy it."

"But is it even something we want to buy?"

"Oh trust me, it's something you will want to buy."

"Alright Adam, I will wait for you to come to the guild branch and make that trade with you myself."

"Alright then, have a good night... or should I say good morning now?"

"I plan on going to sleep after this so a 'good night' would be better."

"Good night Anita."

"Good night Adam."

She watched Adam's back as he walked into the hotel and up to his room.

She didn't want this encounter to end just yet.

'I wish I could spend just a little more time with him...'

It was rare for her to have such a magnetic connection with someone so quickly.

Everything that came out of Adam's mouth was something she liked. Not a single thing about anything Adam had said turned her off.

'Ah, what am I thinking... I'm already 30 years old. By the time he graduates from the academy I will already be 33 I doubt he wants to spend time with someone so much older than him.'

Anita vanished into a spatial portal, going back to Gavin and Pavel to discuss their next moves.

Adam made his way back to his room. What he saw as soon as he opened the door was Henrietta sleeping peacefully.

This girl has no clue about everything that happened while she was fast asleep.

Looking at Henrietta sleep so peacefully made Adam feel at peace as well. He took off his burnt clothes and went into the shower.

He felt immensely tired, he could feel his body finally giving in, he quickly changed his clothes and fell onto the bed.

It was time for some well-deserved rest.

Back at the tower, the Duke was quite displeased with his daughter.

"Mia, I think I remember someone telling me that Adam had ripped your clothes off and seen you naked, that's why you fought him."

Mia knew what was about to come, she had already cried her heart out after her encounter with Adam in the hallway and now it was her dad's turn to admonish her.

"Now, I get to know that he just slapped you because you bad-mouthed his fiance right in front of him???? Do you know how different these two situations are?"

Mia was speechless. There was nothing she could have said to plead her case, she knew she was wrong.

She kept her head down staring at the floor waiting for her father's next words.

"You're the reason who started all of this. You're the one who will end it. Take all the money you need and try to make it up to Adam in any way possible. If you can't, I will tell your mother that you lied to her."

"I'm sorry Dad I will try my best to make it up to Adam I had planned to do it anyway."

Suddenly the empty space beside Gavin warped and Anita popped out of it.

"Gavin, Adam is such an interesting guy, I had a really fun time talking to him. Also for some reason, he refuses to look weak in the presence of women. He was crawling on the ground but as soon as I came to help him he got up on his feet as if he was completely fine which I found to be really funny."

"Aunt Anita, you talked to Adam?" Mia asked.

"Oh we did, I walked him back to his hotel since he refused to teleport with me and we talked the entire way back he seems like a really cool guy to be around. I plan on meeting him again soon for some guild-related business."

Mia furrowed her brows after hearing what Aunt Anita had just said, it was rare for her to talk about someone in such a positive light that meant that she had really liked spending time with Adam.

Mia had to do something quickly so that she could be on good terms with Adam as well, just like the good old days.

"Anyway, Adam asked me to take care of his maid while he stayed in the city. He also knew that I had watched the entire mana-burning process take place while being hidden. He is such a fascinating guy."

The conversation about Adam went on for a long while between them.

Adam was going to get a surprise treat from them.
