The Unruly Immortals

Chapter 897 Rotten

After a short break, Li Huowang lifted his helmet and started walking again. Whether it was real or not, he was already halfway there, and now he could only keep going.

As the sun rose, the temperature on the Gobi Desert gradually increased, which was even more unbearable than at night.

Having not slept or eaten all night, fatigue was evident on everyone's faces.

Accompanied by this weariness, Li Huowang walked silently forward. At the moment when the sun hung high in the sky, everyone suddenly stopped.

"Is that... Chen Hongyu?" Li Huowang stared in a daze at the familiar broad figure ahead, immediately breaking into a trace of ecstatic joy on his face. "Does she really have special abilities? Is she not dead?"

Li Huowang rushed over quickly, but as he got within a few steps of Chen Hongyu, he gradually came to a halt.

It was indeed Chen Hongyu, but she had not come back to life. Under the high temperature, she had begun to decompose,

Hordes of large flies crawled in and out of her seven orifices, constantly sucking.

After fermenting through a night and another day, Chen Hongyu's corpse stench had become very strong. Li Huowang had killed many people, but he truly hadn't expected a dead body could stink this much.

It was a potent smell, like a wall blocking Li Huowang's way, preventing him from getting any closer.

The odor penetrated Li Huowang's nose, making his stomach churn incessantly, attempting to force him to vomit all the contents out.

Even though Li Huowang was wearing a helmet, his eyes stung so much he could not open them completely, tears rolling uncontrollably. He tried to get closer but simply couldn't.

"Hey, you lunatic, what's wrong with you? How come you've gone in a circle and come back?" Ba Nanxu directly raised the pistol in his left hand and fired at the back of Li Huowang's head.

Li Huowang staggered forward a few steps and then suddenly turned around, glaring at the other party with suppressed anger he'd held back all night. "Try shooting me again, if you dare!"

"I'm asking you, are you okay or not?" Ba Nanxu fired another shot at Li Huowang's head.

"You're looking for death!" Just as Li Huowang was rushing toward Ba Nanxu, the others suddenly sprang forward and pulled him away with several hands disorderedly.

"Slap!" A crisp slapping sound rang out, Zhao Shuangdian slapped Ba Nanxu across the face. "Don't make trouble for me."

Ba Nanxu was momentarily stunned, then tilted his head back and let out a low chuckle, sticking out his forked tongue to air-lick Zhao Shuangdian's face before stepping back half a step.

Zhao Shuangdian completely ignored Ba Nanxu's action, walked over to Li Huowang, and said, "Don't care about her. I believe in you. You are always the most special one. Keep looking."

Standing in the distance, Li Huowang paid a brief tribute to Chen Hongyu's corpse, before moving to bypass it, intending this time to make a mark to avoid going in circles again.

But after just a few steps, he suddenly shuddered. Obviously, the rotting Fate Commander was dead, so why hadn't the decay disappeared?

Li Huowang hesitated for a moment, then abruptly turned once more, charging toward Chen Hongyu against the stench of her corpse.

As Li Huowang approached, there was a buzz, and the flies on the corpse suddenly scattered in alarm.

When Li Huowang looked up and saw the sky full of black flies, he laughed. "I knew it, I knew it!!"

"Li Huowang! What are you doing! Come back!"

"Stay away from there! Breathing that stench too much will cause a lung infection!"

Li Huowang completely ignored the shouts of others, focusing all his attention on the flight pattern of the flies in the sky.

Most of the flies climbed back into Chen Hongyu's body, but a few flew eastward. "Found it! Quickly, follow them!! The decay hasn't disappeared!!"

As Li Huowang chased them, those flies flew even faster.

Everyone ran alongside Li Huowang, and they ran for a long time. Just as everyone's strength was about to reach its limit, Li Huowang finally stopped.

He stood at the edge of a depression, observing the two flies as they drilled into a hole below.

The hole wasn't large, just enough for a person to stoop down to enter. "The entrance on the inner side of the elephant is found."

After fully recovering their strength at the spot, everyone prepared their weapons and proceeded to enter inside.

On the Gobi Desert, it was very hot outside, but inside the cave, it was very cool and comfortable to walk. Some corners were even grown with some shade-loving plants and mushrooms.

There were obvious artificial marks within the cave; it somewhat resembled a tunnel but was narrower than a tunnel.

After briefly observing the structure inside the cave, Qing Wanglai spoke, "This should be the dark tunnel of a karez system, exposed due to collapse from being abandoned."

"What significance does what you say have?"

"No significance, just wanted to educate you on what the environmental shadow of our side looks like. A general explanation, a typical karez is not wide but is very, very long."

"If converted to flat space, it could fit several football fields' worth of people. If there's indeed an enemy, we need to be prepared."

This conversation between the two, Li Huowang paid no attention to it. When he spotted a gray mouse quickly scurrying along the wall, he couldn't help but smile knowingly, the recent buildup of negative emotions dissipating.

Just at this moment, a squeaking sound suddenly came from where the mouse had disappeared. Li Huowang's heart instantly sank, and he forcefully lunged with all his strength into the darkness. "Flare!"

Just as the red flare quickly illuminated the dark tunnel, Li Huowang thrust his military knife toward a shadowy figure within it.

In the darkness, an umbrella swiftly came crashing down, striking Li Huowang's military knife, causing sparks to fly.

Just as Li Huowang was about to counter, gunshots rang out, and the strong impact knocked him back.

Glaring at the figures emerging from the darkness, Li Huowang yelled over his shoulder, "Why are you standing there stunned! Help!"

"Uh... Help with what?" Qing Wanglai's voice carried a hint of puzzlement.

"What else would it be! With so many people, are you all blind? Haven't you seen it?"

"Uh, no, haven't seen it."

Li Huowang whirled around in shock, staring at the bewildered faces around him. "You... can't see them? You truly can't see them? Could it be..."

As Li Huowang suddenly realized something, the distant figures gradually disappeared into the darkness.

Li Huowang paced within the well, his breathing hurried, occasionally clenching his fists and pounding them against his helmet.

The previously overwhelming images of flies and that gray mouse kept flashing through his mind, suppressing layers of sorrow and anger within his heart.

Li Huowang suddenly halted mid-step, with a sharp intake of breath, and slammed his head into the nearby wall. "Damn! Didn't I say I couldn't do it? You insisted I could! I'm crazy!"
