The Unexpected Ultimacy

Chapter 15: Chapter 15

"Where would a poor boy like him get five thousand dollars?"

"Umm... Don't say that. He steals around; he should have the money."

"I doubt that he has fifty dollars."

"Then, he can enjoy his vacation here until whenever."

The policemen began to mock and laugh at Michael.

However, Michael wasn't even listening to whatever they were saying. He was more concerned about how he could get himself out of there.

Five thousand dollars was the last thing he should be bothered about. Unfortunately, the least transaction he could process was $100 million.

He fished out his phone to make a call. However, the damaged screen of his phone didn't allow him.

Michael gritted his teeth in anger. The fact that the evening was already getting darker enraged him the most.

'Do I have to spend a night here for a crime that never happened?' he questioned in his mind worriedly.

Then, he searched his pocket, hoping he could find some dollar bills to bribe the policemen. He just wanted to get the hell out of the uncomfortable situation.

Sadly, he couldn't find any money, but he saw a golden yellow card slip out of his pocket.

He picked it up, and his eyes fell on a designed letter W logo. The logo looked so familiar to him. He shifted his gaze downward, and it read, "The CEO of Wellington Conglomerate."

Michael was taken aback. "Was that Lucas Wellington, the biggest businessman in the city?" he wondered if the man who gave him the card at the warehouse was the same top billionaire in the city.

This was because the name Lucas Wellington was well-known as the CEO of the Wellington Conglomerate. However, only a few people knew him in person. The billionaire wasn't the social media type.

Michael set aside his thoughts. Then he dialled the number on the card, using his inner eye to operate his phone. Instantly, the call went through, and a voice came from the other end.

"Hello, sir..."

"Young man, I hope you had a good day. By the way, thanks so much for today."

Michael didn't expect the man to recognize his voice so quickly.

"I'm at District V Police Station..." Michael explained the matter briefly to Lucas.

Immediately after the call ended, Ben sprinted out of his office, sweating profusely.

"Release this man, right now!" he ordered.

The policemen who had been mocking Michael earlier were all bewildered. Only an order from above could make Ben Lewis so troubled.

They saw Michael when he was making a call. The dude looked worthless; there was no way he would have a connection with any prominent person.

The policemen were too sluggish to act on the order, prompting Ben to yell again, "Are you all deaf?!"

The rage in Ben's voice made them lose control, bumping into each other. Hurriedly, the locked counter was opened, and Michael was freed.

It took Michael nothing to shatter the counter with a punch all this time. He just chose to be a gentleman there for some reason.

At least he was able to find out more about who Mrs. Lewis was. A time would come when she would be served a dose of her medicine.

It was already late in the evening when Michael got out of the police station.

A Toyota Tacoma truck was outside waiting for him. "Hey, young man. Mr. Wellington wants you at his residence." This came from one of the billionaire's guards as he approached Michael.

Michael could recognize his face even though the day was getting dark.

The dude never expected this invite. It would be an insult if he turned it down.

He nodded in agreement and entered the vehicle. In a few minutes, they arrived at the beautiful residence of the billionaire.

The Wellington residence was illuminated with bright, elegant light, making the night look like a sunny afternoon. The structure of the mansion screamed class and elegance.

"You must be so stressed. Wouldn't you mind having some rest here overnight? Everything you care for will be at your disposal; just mention it," Lucas offered Michael as he got out of the vehicle.

The beauty of the residence was what captured Michael's attention first. He wasn't expecting such a grand offer from the billionaire.

The man had been waiting for his arrival.

With this gesture, Michael could tell that not all rich folks are impolite and unkind. Maybe it's safe to say that Lucas Wellington was just a different person entirely.

"I appreciate this so much, Mr. Wellington. You're so kind," Michael said gratefully.

"It's nothing. Besides, what's your name?"

"I am Michael Quinn," he responded calmly. Then Lucas stretched his hand forward for a handshake.

"It's nice meeting you, once again." They both smiled as their hands joined together.

"Dad! Isn't that the same guy? The commoner?" A young lady approached. She wore pink pajamas and looked beautiful in the dark evening.

"What does he come here to do? To request the money he rejected earlier?" She asked, passing a cold glare at Michael.

"For how long do you have to do this, Cynthia?" Lucas was unimpressed with her attitude.

"But Dad, this is about us. You know him from nowhere; I see no reason you should give him so much chance as this..."

Cynthia was shouting at the top of her voice before she accidentally swallowed saliva down the wrong hole and began to cough.

"Take it easy, Cynthia," Lucas urged.

"Kuff! Kuff!" The coughing continued.

"Hurry up and get her water!" Lucas ordered his guards in a panicked tone.

Shortly, she was given warm water, but it didn't help the situation.

Lucas couldn't bear it anymore, and he quickly ordered, "Hospital! To the hospital!"
