Chapter 356: Fishing Emperor Crab_3

So when catching crabs, it's best to lift gently and have the net ready; once the crab reaches the water's surface, scoop it up with the net.

The process of lifting crabs out of the water is the most likely point for them to escape, and countless fishermen have failed at this stage.

However, today Lin Yang used a Divine Artifact for catching crabs, so there's no need to be overly cautious, just pull them up at a normal pace.

The reel spun, and a claw-waving Emperor Crab was pulled to the water's surface. With a little effort, it was lifted onto the fishing boat.

"Successfully caught one Emperor Crab, points and Experience Value increased....."

This Emperor Crab is about the same size as the one they ate before and can be saved for lunchtime enjoyment.

Soon, Lin Yang and Yue'er were the first to catch two Emperor Crabs.

After that, it was like a switch had been flipped; the other people on the boat began to catch Emperor Crabs one after another. The boat was filled with exclamations and laughter.

In fact, Emperor Crabs come in groups, much like schools of fish.

After keeping enough Emperor Crabs for lunch, the ones that were caught were released back; only as many were kept as needed.

After catching a few Emperor Crabs, Lin Yang changed his setup to start fishing for fish.

At first, catching Emperor Crabs was interesting; after all, they are novel to see, so big and satisfying.

But after catching a few, it felt just so-so; they don't struggle and are like catching dead weight, offering hardly any sensation aside from the heft.

The thrilling sensation of fish darting wildly underwater when they bite the hook isn't at all present with Emperor Crabs.

After satisfying the curiosity of catching Emperor Crabs, Lin Yang earnestly started fishing for fish.

Catching crabs was just for fun; fishing for fish is the real deal.

The fishing boat was parked not far from the shore, and he wasn't sure what kind of fish might be there, so he used every trick in the book to test the waters first.

As someone with an abundance of Experience Value, Lin Yang was no longer what he used to be; this small increase in Experience Value was hardly worth mentioning.

The fishing setup he used was a Bottom Fishing setup, with a middle threaded lead on the main line, tied to an eight character ring, with a line and hook on the other side.

This setup is quite sensitive; if a fish bites, it will transmit to the fishing rod clearly. The downside is it's prone to getting snagged, so be cautious in rocky, reefy areas, or you'll snag nine times out of ten.

After the bait entered the water and the lead sank to the seabed, he tightened the line a bit to keep it slightly taut so that any fish biting would immediately show as movement at the rod tip.

The fish in the water didn't keep Lin Yang waiting long; in less than a minute, the rod in his hand sharply bent down!

A fish bit the hook.

"Whew~"

With a fish biting the hook, Lin Yang's rod lifting and fish hooking had become muscle memory.

With this lift of the rod, the bend increased significantly.

However, the spinning reel on the rod stayed as steady as an old dog, not triggering any drag alarm, indicating the fish on the hook wasn't very big.

After a bit of tugging, in a little over a minute, a fish was pulled to the surface.

"Wow~ Oh~"

It turned out to be a Chinook salmon!

With another tug, the fish was lifted onto the boat.

"Successfully caught a Chinook salmon, points and Experience Value increased....."

Upon realizing it was a Chinook salmon he caught, Lin Yang felt a bit puzzled; isn't this a fish from the island? How did it end up in the sea?

He then remembered it's a migratory fish, born in freshwater, growing up in the deep sea, and then returning to freshwater to spawn, so catching it in the sea isn't unusual.

It was probably Lin Yang's preconceived notion, having caught them in freshwater streams before, that made him surprised to catch one in the sea.

After unhooking the fish, he released it back into the sea.

Currently, it's the season for Chinook salmon to spawn; they are likely heading to the river mouths for reproduction.

Let it go back and continue its unfinished mission.
