Chapter 279: The Old Bones Are Gone
Arche did not press the advantage but stood calmly, her gaze fixed on Ainz and his gathered guardians. Her composed demeanor made it clear that she did not see them as a threat.
Ainz broke free from Albedo and Shalltear's support. A thick black mist of energy began to emanate from his skeletal frame, coiling around him. Moments later, the mist dispersed, revealing his fully restored body. His once-shattered ribcage and sternum were whole again, as was the fractured spine in his back.
Returning to the center of the arena with his guardians, Ainz glared at Arche from a distance of about ten meters. His unease was palpable—had Arche's attack been any stronger, his entire skeletal frame might have been obliterated. Even as an undead being, survival under such circumstances would have been impossible.
From just that single blow, Ainz had already concluded that Arche's strength was at least on par with, if not exceeding, that of his floor guardians.
"You are strong," Ainz admitted, his tone grave. "I underestimated you earlier. But from this moment onward, your opponent will not merely be me—it will be the entirety of the Great Tomb of Nazarick!" His voice resonated across the arena.
Ainz was a cautious man. Until he could gauge the limits of his opponent's power, he had no intention of adhering to the rigidity of a one-on-one duel. This was a battle where his very existence was at stake.
As he spoke, Ainz retrieved the Staff of Ainz Ooal Gown from his item box. Though this staff was only a replica, its power surpassed that of ordinary divine-class artifacts.
"Guardians, attack! Grand Magic: Thunderous Eradication!"
A massive lightning column materialized above Arche, crackling with deadly energy as it descended. Simultaneously, Albedo and the other guardians unleashed their full might, surging toward Arche in a united offensive.
Unfazed by the overwhelming onslaught, Arche softly uttered, "Celestial Barrier."
A dome of shimmering white light, intricately etched with runic patterns, enveloped both Arche and her three companions. The devastating lightning attack struck the barrier, but the dome merely rippled like the surface of a pond. Even the ferocious melee attacks from Albedo and her comrades were effortlessly neutralized by the protective shield.
From afar, an intense white glow flared, drawing Arche's attention. Ainz had already retreated to the spectator stands, surrounded by glowing white magic circles. Clutched in his hand was a peculiar hourglass-like device.
"Guardians, withdraw," Ainz commanded. Crushing the hourglass in his hand, he bellowed, "Super-Tier Magic: Heaven's Descent!"
A massive pillar of light, its diameter spanning nearly a hundred meters, engulfed the entire arena. The ground trembled under the heat and force of the radiant magic, and the roar of its energy echoed across Nazarick's sixth floor.
Five seconds later, the light dissipated. The air, still thick with residual heat, shimmered. What was once a flat arena had been reduced to a scorched crater, its surface now two or three meters lower than before.
From his vantage point, Ainz stared at the scene below, his disbelief palpable. "Impossible!" he exclaimed.
He hadn't expected the super-tier magic to kill Arche outright—merely injuring her would have sufficed. But the outcome defied all expectations: Arche and her companions stood unscathed in the arena's center, untouched by even the slightest harm. The celestial barrier she had conjured remained pristine.
"Whoa, that was close! I thought we were goners!" Imina, clutching her flat chest, breathed a sigh of relief as she surveyed the destruction around them. "Arche, what level is that undead guy?"
"One hundred," Arche replied calmly. "And so are the others."
Her words left her three companions utterly speechless.
"W-What? One hundred?" Imina stammered.
Though the numerical scale of levels was foreign to them, they knew that reaching level 30 was already considered entering the realm of heroes. The notion of level 100 seemed almost unfathomable.
"So what about you, Arche? You've got to be over level 100, right?" Imina asked, her voice tinged with both awe and curiosity. After all, she had just witnessed Arche overpower a supposed level-100 being with ease.
"My current strength has surpassed this world's leveling system entirely," Arche replied nonchalantly. "But let's save the details for later. Right now, we need to deal with these fools."
With those words, Arche signaled her intent to counterattack. As satisfying as it was to watch her opponents exhaust themselves to no avail, dragging it out any longer would become tiresome.
"Fine," Imina said, nodding her understanding.
During their brief exchange, Ainz and his guardians had already resumed their assault. Ainz, seemingly unrestrained by mana limitations, cast one overwhelming spell after another.
Albedo, clad in a divine-tier full suit of black armor and wielding a massive black glaive formed from the world item Hell's Abyss, struck Arche's barrier with all her might. Shalltear, similarly equipped with divine-tier crimson armor and wielding the legendary Spuit Lance, unleashed relentless blows against the shield. Meanwhile, Aura, Demiurge, and the others contributed their own formidable attacks.
Had anyone else faced such an onslaught, they would have been obliterated within moments. Yet the barrier withstood everything without so much as a crack. The disparity in power was staggering. Even Ainz himself began contemplating the possibility of retreat.
Arche raised her staff. Her lips moved, barely audible amidst the chaos: "Meteoric Rain."
The air above the sixth floor shimmered. Thousands of massive fireballs, each several meters in diameter, materialized in the sky, casting a crimson glow over the battlefield. Their descent was swift and unforgiving, as though the heavens themselves had opened to deliver judgment.
Ainz's crimson eyes flickered frantically. "Damn it all!" he roared.
There was no evading this. There was no blocking this. The fireballs were imbued with an unfamiliar energy—one that sent shivers through his very soul, a sensation he had thought long lost.
Even before the first fireball landed, Ainz knew: if one of those struck him directly, he would perish without a doubt.
On the ground, the guardians watched in horror as the fiery onslaught descended. Their pupils contracted, their faces pale with disbelief. Even Albedo, whose devotion to Ainz was absolute, faltered for a moment, her hands trembling on the hilt of her glaive.
High above, Arche's soft laughter rang out, light and mocking.
"You call yourselves the rulers of Nazarick?" she said, her voice dripping with scorn. "Then show me—prove your worth!"
It was impossible to endure it head-on. Without hesitation, Ainz made the decision to flee the Sixth Layer. He hurriedly threw several of the Ainz Ooal Gown Rings, which could teleport within the Great Tomb of Nazarick, toward Demiuge and the others.
Then, he shouted loudly to Albedo and the others, "Guardians, quickly use the rings to leave the Sixth Layer and meet in the treasure vault."
Although he could open a teleportation portal to directly leave the Great Tomb of Nazarick, Ainz, who valued the guild more than his own life, could not bear to watch his guild be destroyed.
He decided to gather all the level-100 combatants of Nazarick and wager the guild's strongest magical items in the treasure vault, planning to fight Arche to the death.
Demiurge looked at the ring in his hand, his face showing a complex expression.
If he had obtained the ring at any other time, he would have been overjoyed. But now, receiving it was merely for the sake of escaping.
However, there was no time to think further. The fireballs above them were nearly upon them. If they didn't leave the Sixth Layer now, they wouldn't have any chance to escape.
Without further hesitation, Demiurge activated the ring, but nothing changed in his surroundings.
Then, he heard the terrified voice of Shalltear from not far away.
"My Lord Ainz, we can't teleport."
"Damn it, the portal's useless too," Ainz cursed, no longer able to maintain his usual composure and dignity.
To prevent Ainz and the others from escaping, Arche, who understood their abilities well, had already prepared the necessary countermeasures.
Although she could not cast a barrier like Eriri, which could isolate everything with a single thought, with her current power, she could still take some time to secretly set up a barrier to block the teleportation within the Great Tomb of Nazarick.
Seeing the fireballs now falling, Ainz clung to his last hope and cast his highest-tier spell—Time Stop.
The moment the spell was cast, the surroundings turned a grey-white. However, what made Ainz despair was that the effect of Time Stop was immediately broken by the falling fireballs.
Finally, with a series of rumbling sounds, Ainz, Albedo, Shalltear, and the others all vanished without a trace.
The rumbling continued for about ten minutes. When the fireballs finally fell, not only the Sixth Layer, but even the magma domain of the Seventh Layer completely disappeared.
From that moment, the leadership of the Great Tomb of Nazarick, which would later pose a threat to the entire world, was nearly wiped out.
The events that occurred in the Sixth and Seventh Layers naturally shocked the entire Tomb. Upon realizing that the last Supreme Being and many of the guardians had perished, all remaining members of Nazarick went berserk.
An hour later, the Great Tomb of Nazarick had become a thing of the past. Under Arche's devastating attack, it was completely erased from this world.
Although there were a few individuals within Nazarick with a sense of justice, such as Sebas, Yuri Alpha, they had become mortal enemies of Arche due to Ainz's actions. As a result, in the final battle, they too died at Arche's hands without exception.
This was an unavoidable consequence, and it all boiled down to a matter of ideology.
To Nazarick, their actions were completely justified. Even massacring innocent humans or skinning them to create magical scrolls was perfectly reasonable to them, because, after all, they were not human.
But to Arche, who was human, Nazarick's actions were absolute evil and had to be eradicated.
The Great Tomb of Nazarick completely disappeared, but all the wealth accumulated within it was absorbed into Arche's storage space.
As for the black labor teams that had invaded the Tomb, they had long since perished during the battle between Arche and Ainz's forces.
The humans captured by Demiurge were nearly all dead, and those who were still alive had either collapsed mentally due to the cruel experiments or were in a state of despair.
To grant them relief, Arche decided to let them disappear along with Nazarick.
After returning to her home, Arche, under the urging of Imina and the others, shared the details of her power and the chat group with them.
Meanwhile, Ureirika and Kuuderika chimed in with stories of the time they accompanied Arche to the birthday party of Sakura and the amusing things that had happened there.
After this conversation, the worldview of Imina and the others was completely shattered, and they couldn't help but feel deep envy toward Arche.
"I had always wondered just how strong you were, but I never imagined you could actually destroy the surface of the planet. It's really unbelievable," Heklan remarked with a look of admiration.
Thanks to Arche's explanation, they now understood terms like "the surface," "planet," and "universe."
Just thinking about how this 17-year-old girl standing beside them had the power to single-handedly destroy all the surface of the planet in a limited time was enough to leave them speechless in awe.
It was hard to believe that just three months ago, she was merely a talented magic caster who had not yet reached the level of a hero.
"Well, there are still a lot of people stronger than me in the chat group," Arche responded nonchalantly.
"That's nice. I really wish I could join a chat group like that," Imina murmured, a glimmer of hope in her eyes.
Arche, looking at Imina with a serious expression, said, "Don't worry, Imina. I'll definitely bring you into the chat group if the opportunity arises."
Upon hearing this, Imina, thinking Arche had misunderstood her meaning, quickly clarified, "Ah, no, Arche, you've misunderstood! I didn't mean it like that, I was just lamenting."
Though she also wished to join the chat group Arche was in, she would never demand it.
"It's fine, Imina. What I said is true. You're the closest person to me in this world, besides Ureirika and Kuuderika. I've even come to see you as an older sister, so this is something I genuinely want to do."
Arche smiled brightly as she spoke, her face radiating warmth and sincerity.
