The SSS Legendary Dragon Chose Me On Rebirth

Chapter 184: city cleaning

Things were strangely calm after that.

At least for about two weeks while Kagerou was busy gathering information about the gangs. But it was actually easier for him since he just had to search through Lord Joryth's castle to find his secret room.

Looking for the secret room, which Kagerou was sure he had, took more time than putting together the names of all the members of the gangs, both big and small.

But those two weeks also gave time for the competitors to arrive in Burnis City and settle in.

And then the news came, breaking the false calm.

The long list with the names and faces of the gang members was painted and posted on every wall in the city. The points for each head were included with their stage and rank, as well as the instructions for the first phase of the competition.

Also, there were outposts scattered in the city where one could report their head. With the head.

The one major flaw in this was that the gang members could run to the Eastern side. But then again, Vacuse simply considered it part of the challenges of the tournament, meaning they had better cut some heads before they ran.

Thus, in just a few hours, Burnis City was thrown into boiling chaos. So much so that even the Iron Knight was forced to hover outside from his ship to watch what was happening.

But he did not interfere. He only watched with a gloomy expression. He was simply making sure that no forces of the Dragon crossed over, but he did nothing to the competitors when they crossed over to hunt.

But the hunt turned out not to be as easy as they expected.

The gangs might not have been powerful to Vacuse and his New Dawn guards, but not all the competitors were like him, and the hunting turned into hunters hunting hunters.

The city was covered in blood. Literally.

Because the competitors even had to fight each other to collect heads.

Almost everyone who was not a gang member in the city fled or locked themselves up. Many even sought refuge in the castle, and Vacuse, as the kind lord that he was, accepted them.

Just like that, a week passed. And then two weeks.

Only then did Vacuse come out of the castle to issue another decree. "All the competitors who remain, whether they are part of the top one hundred or not, must report to the nearest outposts to start volunteering work repaying the city!"

The news shocked everyone, especially those who were in the top one hundred, and they began to grumble about their lord.

"Is he crazy? He should start clearing the city up? What type of humiliation is that! He might be a Dragon Heir, but even I am a heir from my town! My family is a family of lords!"

"Is he looking down on us? What type of tournament is this anyway?"

"He is just cheap and does not want to spend the money to employ people to take care of the mess!"

One of them, a young lord who was part of the top one hundred, was the bravest among them and went to the castle to complain. Even when the captain of the guards explained to him that the Dragon Heir did not want to see him, the local lord forced himself in... surprisingly, he managed to force himself in.

And then the door closed behind him, and within a minute his body was dangling at the top of the gate.

After that, nobody said anything, and they focused on cleaning up the city.

The Iron Knight was not someone who was easily amused, and yet he was grimly amused by what was happening in the city. It was the first time he had seen anything like that before, and the only word he could use to describe it was:

"Shameless."

It was night, and he was still hovering where he had been for what felt like days. It was actually days, five days that he had remained in the air, in the same place, with his back hunched, looking like a scrap of wasted armor.

"So shameless. He used them to wipe out all the gangs in the city and then used them to clean it up. Not bad! Not bad!"

Suddenly the Iron Knight shifted his place, his head tilting to stare at empty space beside him. And a moment later, a door-sized portal opened up, shimmering with golden radiance.

It was not actually a portal. It was something that would allow those on the other side to see what was happening on this side.

The Iron Knight glared at the door. "What are you doing here?"

Inside the door stood a man who wore a golden robe. He was a beautiful man with a smile that could charm all. The Golden Knight, the commander of the Gold Accord.

He smiled brightly. "Come on, rust! Can't you even pretend to give me face? I'm your commander, after all!"

The Iron Knight only glared even more. "Call me Iron Knight... Commander."

The Golden Knight snorted. "Yes, yes, yes. How is it going? How many Black Accord members have you caught?"

The air around the Iron Knight turned chilly.

Hurriedly, the Golden Knight changed the topic, though there was still a smile on his face. "So how is it? How are the brats of the Grand Dukes' families? Are they strong enough to carry their generation of the Empire?"

The Iron Knight's voice turned harsh. "Have they ever been weak?"

"The Vorrakyn... are weak," the Golden Knight pointed out.

The Iron Knight snorted. "He is not weak. That Vacuse Vorrakyn... he is not weak."

"So he is not strong either?"

"I did not say that."

But unconsciously, the Iron Knight clenched the hand that had blocked Vacuse's strike. It still throbbed now and then.

The Golden Knight stared at him for a long while and then he smiled. "You know, it seems you like him. You can teach him a thing or two. Seriously, like with the Prince! See how your help turned out to be!"

The Iron Knight turned his head and focused heavily on the portal-like door, and the next instant, it collapsed.
