Chapter 180: water and spear
Eloryna didn't seem to think much of Dragons, because she sneered, and her eyes finally settled into coldness as she looked down at him. "This is the Vacuse? This one?"
Vacuse frowned.
He didn't like the way she said it, as if he was beneath her notice. It made his face twitch. More than that, it was as if he didn't matter at all.
Such arrogance.
But before Vacuse said anything, he studied the four behind her, two men and two women, all of them with blue eyes and hair. They were also in the third stage.
Just looking at them, Vacuse knew that his own forces were superior to hers.
But she was standing atop a monster... a powerful monster.
How had something like that been allowed to enter? Then he realized that it must be a construct, just like his own dragon construct. His eyes narrowed. "Yes. This is Vacuse Vorrakyn. Are you one of the daughters of the Grand Duke of the Eastern Region?"
Of course she was. Vacuse just asked to be polite. It didn't hurt.
She snorted. "I am Eloryna Stormhaven. And you... you mangled beast, what the hell are you doing in my side of things? Are you trying to pick a fight with me?"
It seemed... she was trying to pick a fight with Vacuse. And now that he was thinking about it, he realized that the Ash Rats were going to trade the Morrowling to the Eastern Region... which meant they must be behind his attempted kidnapping too!
And now, Vacuse was in her territory, which gave her the right to attack him without any issues.
Ah! Tonight's trap wasn't just single-layered after all!
Vacuse knew that she must have brought sufficient forces to hunt a Dragon, hence the monster she was standing on.
"No. I was investigating the Ash Rats, and their trail led to this place. Sorry if I might have crossed some lines. I will make the necessary compensation later."
Kagerou blinked.
Harkon blinked.
Eh?
They both had dumbfounded expressions on their faces. And why not? It was the first time ever they had seen their lord appear so polite to someone showing such killing intent towards him.
And there was a reason Vacuse was doing so. It had to do with the Morrowling.
Formation masters were rare to begin with, and what few there were fell under the heavy control of the Emperor. Of course, that didn't mean the other Regions wouldn't have one or two under their control.
But the Western Region did not.
And that made them far, far inferior.
Now though, Vacuse might have gotten his hands on something truly worth it, and his only intention was to return to the castle without putting the Morrowling in danger.
But of course... when had anything ever gone as Vacuse wanted?
Eloryna looked around the room. She noticed the slaves huddling together and some crushed beneath fallen stones and ceilings, then her face came to rest on Vacuse and then on the Morrowling.
Her face lit up when she saw the little guy. "There you are."
"Vacuse Vorrakyn. I will deal with you later. Leave just as you arrived!"
Vacuse bowed. "Thank you."
Then he turned, his hand on the Morrowling's shoulder, pulling him along.
"Stop! Don't take that thing with you!"
Vacuse blinked, then he smiled as he turned back to face Eloryna. His red eyes were cold. "Are you trying to pick a fight with me?"
Eloryna smiled. "Cut the bullshit, Vacuse. The Morrowling is mine and already paid for. Do you want to mess with the Eastern Region?"
Vacuse thought about it. He actually gave it serious thought. In truth, he didn't really want to mess with them, because they would absolutely crush the Western Region... for now.
But at the same time, Vacuse was a Dragon, and it was not in their nature to drop what was already in their claws.
He smiled, his teeth gleaming. "Are you saying that the Eastern Region is ignoring a grand decree of His Imperial Majesty and dealing in slaves?"
Eloryna gritted her teeth and her eyes flashed. "It seems you leave me with no choice, you bastard! I am going to kill you after all. A shame, the competition for the Great Dungeon hasn't even started yet."
Vacuse looked at her in surprise. He was truly surprised. "Are you stupid? Kill me? Me? The SSS Dragon? Killed by the likes of you? What the fuck... is your head empty?"
Her eyes flashed with fury. "Kill him!"
Vacuse didn't have to give any orders.
Harkon and Kagerou fell back towards the Morrowling. They were the ones to protect him.
The ten New Dawn members shot forward, leaping into the air towards the four Eastern Soulbearers.
But then... something happened.
The monster raised one of its tentacles, and, uncaring whether it was ally or enemy, it swung the tentacle. It cracked the air like thunder, narrowly missing the Soulbearers.
The tentacle was coming straight at Vacuse!
But he didn't move.
A beam of light shot out to his right hand, red sparks turning into the form of a large stone dragon construct!
One of its limbs met the tentacle, forcing it back in a ripple of shockwave.
Vacuse leaped onto the construct's back and poured in his void energy, and instantly the stone construct turned into a dark color that drank the light.
Its mouth opened in a shattering roar.
For a moment, Eloryna and Vacuse stared at each other.
And then... they began fighting.
The octopus monster and the dragon construct leaped at each other.
The two humans found each other as well.
Vacuse's umbrella came down like quicksilver, but she blocked with an ice spear!
Vacuse frowned. He struck again with greater force and felt satisfaction as the ice spear shattered, sending her back with a surprised growl. "I thought the Stormhaven followed the pathway of water, since your beast is the creature of the Deep!"
Their pathway was the one in which all their powers and abilities were related strictly to water.
She looked at him with contempt. "What do you know? Water and ice—are they not the same thing?"
