Chapter 158: Spike
"I think you should know just as much about the Shadow from what I have told you. He had been absorbing Soulbearers since he suddenly appeared, and around the time you finished your Pathway rite, he moved here with his followers.
"The Shadow seems wary of you and was the one that gave the Black Accord the mission before he finally joined the Accord himself.
"The Shadow is a shadow. But he has his own followers, and his subordinates are pretty strong from different Advancement stages with the blessing of Shadow. That is the Shadow."
Vacuse nodded.
"Phoenix is one of the Numbered Accord. She is ranked Twenty and is in the Sovereign Ascended stage, the first crown of it."
"First crown? What is that?" It was the first time he had heard something like that.
But Jellyfish did not answer. "You will naturally know that. She came from one of the ancient families of the Azgarath Empire, but her family fell a long time ago."
Vacuse blinked. He could not remember any of that from the history lessons that he knew. "Ancient families? Then did her family hold the position of Grand Duke in the past?"
Jellyfish snorted. "When the founding fathers of the Empire used their power and might to expand it, do you think all of them held Grand positions?
"Some of them built their families in the capital itself, and their power was not any weaker than a Grand Duke. The Phoenix is one of those families, and their power was just as earth-shaking as the Dragons.
"But then something happened. The Phoenix family turned their back against the Empire, and they were crushed with the full might of Azgarath. So totally that it was said that not a single person survived.
"Someone survived though, as the Pathway of the Phoenix that was taken by the Emperor could not be used by anyone else. But nobody knew the whereabouts of the survivor. Years passed, and then Numbered Twenty came to join the Black Accord. She took the name Phoenix for herself."
Vacuse took a deep breath. He had heard history he had never heard before. "Then what did she have against me?"
Jellyfish shrugged. "My guess is that she shared a deep enmity for the founding fathers of the Empire, and since the Vorrakyn were on the tipping side, she lent a hand to your enemy."
"The Phoenix feather." Vacuse looked at the ring on his hand.
"Yes. Although I do not know if she wishes to crush you personally, I think you have deeply offended her by not dying and instead holding onto one of the treasures of her family.
"She might kill you herself or send people to take care of you. Who knows? Hahaha! Why look so gloomy? With the Shadow now a Numbered Accord, she will not make any careless moves against you."
Vacuse took a deep breath when he heard that, but his brows furrowed. "Then what about this Blood Spike? I do not think I ever heard of them."
"Ahaha! Blood Spike is Black Accord Numbered Twenty-Three, a Sovereign Ascended. I do not know her Pathway, but she always claims to be a Dragon."
Vacuse's eyes narrowed as he felt a bolt of shock run down his spine. His mouth opened slightly. "A Dragon?"
Jellyfish waved his hand. "Yes. Yes! But who knows if she was lying? I tried, but I still have not seen any connections from her to you Vorrakyn, and as far as I am aware, your family is the only family of Dragons.
"Or do you know of others?"
Vacuse shook his head. "No, I do not. Family of Dragons... then, have you seen her before? Her eyes."
"Oh, I know what you are asking about, and yes. Her eyes were red, very similar to yours. And tears of red blood were etched on her cheek."
Vacuse kept his face calm. Drenvar never told him anything of the sort and, more importantly, if she was a Vorrakyn, would she really be so apart from the family and even work against it like that? At most she would have tried to kick Drenvar away as the Dragon Lord.
But instead she was a Black Accord, a member of the Numbered Accord.
Definitely not suspicious at all.
"Then how are the Numbered Accord ranked? Individual powers?"
Jellyfish raised his finger. "Of course, Numbered One is the strongest and the leader of the Accord, and it goes down like that. The rank is based on individual powers, as well as Artifacts, formations, or any magical items the individual has. The power of their subordinates is also calculated.
"Numbered Accord are strong."
Vacuse detected a bit of warning in his voice as he said the last bit. He nodded. "I see. I believe that is all my questions."
"When you join the Black Accord through me, you will be my subordinate, and your power will boost my number."
Vacuse raised his brows without saying anything, but Jellyfish seemed to understand him because he chuckled. "Your enemies are powerful. It will be wise to join through me. I am strong."
With that, he flicked his hand, and a card flew out to hover above Vacuse.
"With this card, you can use it to ask for my help if you find yourself in a difficult situation. But know that once you use it, depending on the help that I provide, you will have to start preparations to join the Black Accord.
"If the help is very burdensome, then you will immediately join."
Vacuse saw no reason not to take it, so he put it into his ring. Specifically, he put it atop the Ashen Wrap in case Jellyfish had put something on it.
Jellyfish's posture radiated satisfaction as he melted away into the darkness. But the next instant, he appeared again. "Bonus news. The War Artifact that you used recently has caused something to happen. You might find the Eastern Region people really troublesome in coming days."
Before Vacuse could ask him what he meant, Jellyfish had already disappeared, and the room returned to normal.
Vacuse frowned to himself, deep in thought. Out of everything that he heard, what troubled him the most was the Blood Spike Numbered Accord.
"I think I should visit the library."
