Chapter 120: Danzo's Unexpected Arrival

For the next while, Kyosuke was completely immersed in familiarizing himself with his new abilities.

During this time, the Sand ninja remained quiet, as if they intended to call a complete ceasefire. But Orochimaru had secretly revealed to him that the Sand's supplies and troops were now fully assembled, just waiting to launch a final assault.

This attack would be a brutal and bloody battle.

Both sides, to the death.

Kyosuke had then subtly asked for Orochimaru's opinion on the war with the Sand. After all, the difference in strength between the two sides was quite large. If they were to clash head-on, even if they could win, it would likely be a pyrrhic victory.

In the Third Great Ninja War, Konoha had always been in the position of fighting with fewer numbers, so every bit of strength was crucial. A pyrrhic victory was not a result Konoha wanted to see.

Combining the original story with the current reality, Kyosuke knew that there must be some unknown variable in this battle.

As for what this variable was, Orochimaru did not say, only telling him to wait.

What he was waiting for, Kyosuke did not know, nor did he dare to ask.

And so, he waited for another month.

Finally, on the eve of the Sand's mobilization, the variable arrived.

That day, as Kyosuke and Saori were sparring out of boredom, a messenger came and said that Orochimaru had summoned them.

Kyosuke nodded to Saori and was about to go and see what Orochimaru wanted so urgently.

But the messenger then said that Hyuga Saori was also on the summons list and needed to go with him.

The two of them exchanged a look, and after some thought, they could not come to any conclusion. In the end, they could only follow the messenger in a daze.

When they arrived at Orochimaru's tent, the man who appeared before them was a complete surprise.

"Lord Danzo?!"

The man before them, with his head wrapped in bandages and dressed in a black combat suit, was the long-unseen Danzo.

"Could it be that Root is the variable in this battle? Is that old dog Danzo really willing to invest so much?"

"No, unless the enemy's forces are at Konoha's gates, Root would never mobilize on such a large scale."

"And even if they all went to war, in a large-scale battle with tens of thousands of people, they wouldn't be able to play a decisive role."

His mind racing, Kyosuke made several guesses about Danzo's intentions, but in the end, he rejected them all.

Seeing Kyosuke's thoughtful expression, Danzo and Orochimaru did not rush him. Instead, they watched him with interest, waiting for his conclusion.

Unfortunately, after a long time of deduction, Kyosuke still couldn't figure out the key point of the problem. It wasn't until Saori, who was beside him, suddenly spoke that he finally understood.

"Hanzo of the Salamander."

Hearing Saori's words, not only did Kyosuke have a sense of sudden realization, but even Orochimaru and Danzo, who were on the side, gave her a strange look.

"Rei actually has such a broad perspective... what a pity. Another one for Hiruzen," Danzo thought with some annoyance.

Perhaps it was due to Root's special training methods. Although there was no shortage of strong individuals or talented young people, these people might be very useful as tools, but it was difficult for them to become leaders.

Danzo's goal was the Hokage's seat, so he had to have such talent under his command. Otherwise, would he have to do everything himself?

This was one of the important reasons why Danzo valued Kyosuke.

But he hadn't expected the previously inconspicuous Rei to be able to see his intentions so quickly. This made him feel a bit frustrated.

Such rare talent, so easily poached by Hiruzen. It's really...

Ignoring Danzo's jumbled thoughts, Kyosuke also had a sense of sudden realization.

His thinking had indeed been a bit limited before. He had been considering the power Danzo held and some of Konoha's hidden trump cards, but he hadn't thought that Danzo would use outside forces to achieve his goals.

But with Saori's reminder, he had suddenly figured out the key point.

He even recalled one thing: the death of the Akatsuki's leader, Yahiko.

In that incident, Hanzo of the Salamander had been instigated by Danzo, which was why he had attacked the Akatsuki.

From this, it was clear that Hanzo and Danzo had long been in cahoots.

So, the reason Danzo had appeared here at this time was to discuss a joint resistance against the Sand ninja with Hanzo.

"Then the reason you called the two of us here today is to..." After figuring out the key point, Kyosuke had a rough guess about today's matter.

Sure enough, Danzo then ordered the two of them to escort him to the Land of Rain to meet with Hanzo of the Salamander and discuss a joint alliance.

Danzo's actions this time were highly secretive, so he had only brought one guard with him.

But after entering the Land of Rain, they couldn't be so careless. Although Danzo didn't think Hanzo of the Salamander would dare to do anything to him, it was better to be safe than sorry.

So, Snake and Rei, who had previously been members of Root, were the best choices as guards.

After understanding the reason, the two of them could only obey Danzo's orders and prepare to set off for the Village Hidden by Rain.

"You have ten minutes to prepare. Then meet up three kilometers outside the camp," Danzo said simply, then turned and began to discuss something with Orochimaru.

Kyosuke looked down at the Anbu uniform on the table, picked it up, and then returned to his tent with Saori.

"It's been a while since I've worn this. I'm actually a bit nostalgic," Kyosuke said with a relaxed smile, putting on the animal mask.

Rei rolled her eyes at him, then began to change her clothes in front of him without any hesitation.

The flash of white skin made Kyosuke feel a bit dizzy.

Silently cursing himself for being so useless, Kyosuke coughed lightly and then, as if making small talk, said:

"Ahem... do you think our trip to the Village Hidden by Rain this time to discuss an alliance has a high chance of success?"

Rei, who had finished changing, turned and gave him a half-smile. "It shouldn't be a big problem."

"Why do you say that?" Kyosuke asked curiously.

"It's simple. During the Second Great Ninja War, the Land of Rain, as a battleground, suffered heavy losses. If it weren't for our Konoha's assistance, they probably wouldn't have recovered even now."

"This is something Hanzo will never allow to happen again."

"Since he doesn't want to passively endure, the only option is to take the initiative and move the battlefield elsewhere."

"One side is the former persecutor, the other is a powerful ally who has helped him before. Which one do you think he'll choose?"

After hearing Saori's analysis, Kyosuke silently nodded in agreement.

Perhaps the truth was just as Saori had guessed. Since Hanzo didn't want his country to be harmed again, the only option was to take the initiative and defeat the enemy.

As for whether the Sand Village would retaliate afterward, Hanzo probably wasn't too worried. After all, in his eyes, the Sand would never be able to withstand a joint attack from Konoha and the Rain.

As long as they were ruthless and completely crippled the Sand, even if they wanted to retaliate, they probably wouldn't have the strength.

Not to mention, the major ninja villages would never allow a buffer zone with such an excellent geographical location as the Land of Rain to be occupied by the Sand.

Even the powerful Konoha didn't dare to do so. How could the Sand Village?

In summary, Danzo's alliance this time had a relatively high chance of success.
