Chapter 40: Sylveon's Spotlight
Ethan sat at the desk in his room at the Pokémon Center, a notebook open and his Pokédex resting beside it.
The morning sunlight streamed through the window, casting a warm glow over the clutter of papers, Pokéballs, and various items strewn about. Today's task was monumental but oddly exciting—documenting Sylveon's evolution for Professor Oak.
Sylveon lay sprawled across the bed, its ribbon-like feelers lazily draped over the pillow. Ethan glanced back at it and chuckled. "You're the star of the show today, Sylveon. Ready to work?"
Sylveon opened one eye and gave a soft purr before stretching dramatically, its feelers curling and uncurling as if to say, Do I have to?
"Don't give me that," Ethan said with a smirk. "You've been spoiled enough. It's time to shine for science."
Sylveon hopped off the bed and sauntered over, its movements graceful and deliberate. Ethan swore it was putting on a performance just to make him laugh.
"Alright," he muttered, tapping his pen against the notebook. "Let's start with the basics."
He began by jotting down every detail he could remember about Sylveon's evolution.
From the moment Eevee had learned the Fairy-type Baby Move -Doll Eyes to the hours they spent bonding through training and care.
He described the gradual change in Eevee's temperament, its growing affection, and the day it evolved into Sylveon in a brilliant flash of light.
Sylveon, meanwhile, had taken to pawing at his pen, its feelers curling around it in an attempt to pull it away.
"Stop that," Ethan said, swatting its feelers away gently. "This is serious work."
Sylveon let out a playful chirp and sat back, watching him with an almost smug expression.
Next came the dietary chart. Ethan hesitated for a moment, debating how much to include. His recipes and techniques were a closely guarded secret, but he could still provide general information.
"Sylveon loves berries," he murmured as he wrote. "Especially Pecha and Oran. It also enjoys mildly sweet treats but isn't a fan of anything too bitter or spicy."
Sylveon perked up at the mention of berries, its feelers reaching out toward Ethan's bag.
"No, you're not getting snacks right now," Ethan said firmly, though he couldn't help but smile. "Later, okay?"
With the basics documented, Ethan set up his Pokégear to take photos and videos. "Alright, Sylveon, let's get some good shots. Stand over there."
Sylveon obediently padded to the spot he indicated, its ribbons flowing elegantly as it struck a pose. Ethan snapped a few photos, then adjusted the angle for better lighting.
"Perfect," he said, grinning. "Now, let's record a short video."
As soon as the recording started, Sylveon seemed to forget it was supposed to behave. It flopped onto its side dramatically, its feelers curling around itself as if to say, I'm too tired for this.
Ethan sighed but couldn't suppress a chuckle. "Come on, Sylveon, this is important. Stand up and show off your ribbons."
Sylveon obliged but made a show of yawning and stretching, its movements exaggerated for comedic effect. Ethan groaned.
"You're doing this on purpose, aren't you?"
Sylveon's eyes sparkled mischievously, and it let out a soft chirp that sounded suspiciously like laughter.
Despite the antics, Ethan managed to get a few decent clips, though he decided to leave in some of the funny moments. He figured Professor Oak might appreciate seeing Sylveon's playful side.
Finally, he included battle footage. A day earlier, Ethan had faced off against a trainer at the Pokémon Center. The trainer had been confident, boasting about his powerful team, but Sylveon had dismantled his strategy with ease. Ethan included clips of Sylveon dodging attacks gracefully and retaliating with Moonblast and Swift, finishing each opponent with a flourish.
When everything was compiled, Ethan reviewed the material one last time.
"Photos, check. Video, check. Dietary preferences, check. Evolution details, check. Battle footage, check." He leaned back in his chair, satisfied.
He sent the data to Professor Oak with a short message:
Professor, here's everything I've documented about Sylveon. Let me know if you need anything else.
As soon as the message was sent, Ethan turned to Sylveon, who had climbed back onto the bed and was lounging like royalty.
"You know," Ethan said, smirking, "for a Pokémon who acts so spoiled, you really are one of a kind."
Sylveon chirped happily, its feelers wrapping around his arm as if to agree.
Professor Oak leaned back in his chair, a steaming cup of tea in hand, as the sound of his Pokédex's notification filled the quiet lab. He glanced at the screen and saw the sender's name—Ethan. His curiosity piqued, he tapped the notification, opening the message and the attached files.
"Ah, finally," Oak said, setting the tea aside. "Let's see what Ethan has sent us about this mysterious Sylveon."
He clicked on the first file, which contained Ethan's detailed notes. As he read through the documentation, Oak's eyebrows shot up in astonishment.
"A Fairy-type evolution of Eevee?" he murmured, stroking his chin. "Incredible. I've never encountered anything like this."
Ethan had described the evolution process meticulously—how Eevee had learned Baby-Doll Eyes, the deep bond they had formed, and the eventual transformation into Sylveon. Oak's amazement grew with each detail.
"So, it's tied to affection and learning a Fairy-type move," he mused. "Fascinating. This opens up an entirely new avenue for Eevee's evolutionary potential."
The next file contained Sylveon's dietary chart. While it didn't reveal Ethan's secret recipes, it provided enough information for Oak to understand its preferences. He jotted down a few notes for future reference, already envisioning how trainers worldwide could benefit from this data.
Then came the video file. Oak clicked play, leaning forward eagerly. The screen lit up with a pristine image of Sylveon standing elegantly, its ribbon-like feelers swaying gracefully.
"Magnificent," Oak said, his eyes shining with admiration.
The video, however, quickly took a humorous turn. Sylveon flopped onto its side, yawning dramatically, then stretched with exaggerated flair. Oak chuckled.
"So, it's quite the performer," he said, smiling.
The antics continued as Sylveon ignored Ethan's instructions, acting spoiled but undeniably adorable. At one point, it pawed at Ethan's Pokédex, wrapping its feelers around it as if trying to take control of the filming.
By the end of the video, Oak was laughing heartily, wiping tears of mirth from his eyes. "This Sylveon has more personality than most trainers I've met!"
Next came the battle footage. Oak watched in awe as Sylveon gracefully dodged attacks and countered with powerful moves like Moonblast and Swift. It was clear that Sylveon wasn't just a showoff; it was a formidable battler, capable of turning the tide of any match.
As the final clip ended, Oak leaned back in his chair, his mind racing with possibilities. He immediately opened his email and began composing a message to his colleagues in the research community:
Subject: A New Evolution of Eevee Discovered
Dear Colleagues,
I am thrilled to share groundbreaking information about a newly discovered evolution of Eevee, known as Sylveon. Attached are detailed notes, photos, and videos documenting its evolution process, dietary preferences, and battle capabilities. This discovery is a monumental step in understanding Eevee's potential and the versatility of Pokémon evolution as a whole.
Best regards,
Professor Oak
Before sending the email, he attached Ethan's files and added a personal note of thanks to Ethan for his meticulous work.
Satisfied, Oak leaned back with a smile. "The world is going to be talking about Sylveon for years to come."
"Time to get another cup of tea," he muttered, smiling as he imagined the global buzz Sylveon was about to create.
