The Roulette of Destiny: Reincarnated in the Pokémon World

Chapter 39: Calling professor oak

The early morning sun filtered through the window of Ethan's room at the Pokémon Center.

The chirping of Pidgey outside blended with the soft hum of the center, creating a serene atmosphere. Ethan stretched lazily, ready to dive into another day of training with his Pokémon. With a plan set in his mind, he began preparing breakfast for himself and his team.

Sylveon sat comfortably on his lap, its ribbon-like feelers wrapping around his arm as it nuzzled against him.

Ethan smiled at his Pokémon, giving it a light pat on the head as he thought about the training regime he had planned for the day.

As Ethan reached for his notebook to jot down his schedule, a sudden realization struck him like a Thunderbolt. His eyes widened, and a bead of sweat rolled down his temple.

"Oh no… I forgot to call Professor Oak!" he exclaimed, startling Sylveon, who tilted its head curiously.

Ethan scrambled to grab his Pokégear, mentally berating himself. Professor Oak had specifically asked him to stay in touch, especially after embarking on his journey. Yet, with all the excitement of gym battles and exploring new cities, the thought had completely slipped his mind.

He hurriedly dialed the number, his heart racing slightly. The call connected after a few rings, and the familiar face of Professor Oak appeared on the screen. His expression quickly shifted from pleasant to mildly irritated.

"Ethan!" the professor's voice boomed. "It's about time you remembered to call! I was beginning to think you'd forgotten all about me."

Ethan chuckled nervously, rubbing the back of his neck. "Sorry about that, Professor. I've been… uh… busy with training and gym battles."

"Busy? Hmph," Oak muttered, though his expression softened slightly. "Well, I'm glad you finally called. Now, how are things going on your journey?"

Ethan opened his mouth to answer, but before he could say anything, Professor Oak's gaze fell on Sylveon, perched elegantly on Ethan's lap.

"Wait a minute," Oak interrupted, leaning closer to the screen. "What is that Pokémon? I've never seen anything like it before."

Ethan smirked, the corners of his lips curling upward. "This is Sylveon, Professor. It's an evolution of Eevee."

The professor's eyes widened in astonishment. "An Eevee evolution? But… I've studied Eevee and its evolutions extensively. I've never encountered this form before. Tell me, Ethan, how did it evolve?"

Ethan stroked Sylveon's fur gently, his expression proud yet calm. "Sylveon evolves when Eevee forms a strong bond with its trainer while learning Fairy-type moves. It's not common because Fairy-types are a relatively new discovery."

Oak's face lit up with fascination. "Fairy-type, you say? Incredible! This changes so much about what we know of Eevee's evolutionary potential. Sylveon is truly extraordinary."

Ethan nodded. "She's been an amazing partner. Strong, reliable, and…" He glanced at Sylveon, who gave a content purr, "a little spoiled sometimes."

The professor laughed heartily. "It seems like you've formed a remarkable bond. Ethan, you must document everything about this evolution. Every detail—how Eevee's bond strengthened, what Fairy-type moves were involved, and any other observations you made."

Ethan blinked, caught slightly off guard. "You want me to make a detailed report?"

"Absolutely," Oak said, his tone serious. "This is groundbreaking! A new Eevee evolution—this information needs to be shared with researchers, trainers, and professors worldwide. Only you have the firsthand experience of this evolution, Ethan. It's your responsibility to share it."

Ethan sighed but nodded. "Alright, Professor. I'll write up a detailed report and send it to you soon. Anything else I should include?"

Oak rubbed his chin thoughtfully. "Photos, battle data, personality traits—anything that could provide insight into Sylveon's behavior and abilities. And don't forget to mention how this evolution affects its bond with its trainer."

Sylveon looked up at Ethan with a curious expression, as if sensing the importance of the conversation. Ethan chuckled, stroking its head. "Looks like you're going to be the star of a research paper, Sylveon."

The Pokémon purred contentedly, its feelers wrapping around Ethan's arm in response.

"Now," Oak continued, his tone shifting to one of curiosity, "how's your journey going? How many badges have you collected so far?"

Ethan straightened up. "I've earned three badges, Professor. My last battle was against Lt. Surge here in Vermillion City."

The professor's eyebrows shot up in delight. "Three badges already? Well done, Ethan! That's excellent progress. You're doing great!"

Ethan smirked. "Thanks, Professor. It wasn't easy, but my team pulled through."

Oak leaned back in his chair, stroking his chin thoughtfully. "Gary has also earned two badges so far, and from what I've heard, Ash has managed to get his first badge. You're all growing into fine trainers."

Ethan grinned. "Gary's as competitive as ever, huh? And Ash… well, he's got a long way to go."

Professor Oak chuckled. "That's true, but everyone progresses at their own pace. Now—"

Before he could finish, a doorbell chimed in the background. Oak turned his head, frowning. "Ah, that must be my delivery. Hold on a second."

Ethan watched as the professor got up and walked out of view. The sound of muffled voices drifted through the call, followed by Oak returning with a wide grin and a pizza box in hand.

"Looks like my lunch has arrived," he said cheerfully. "We'll have to continue this conversation later, Ethan. Keep up the great work, and don't forget to call more often!"

Ethan chuckled, shaking his head. "Will do, Professor. Enjoy your pizza."

With that, the call ended, leaving Ethan staring at the blank screen. Sylveon nudged him gently, bringing him back to reality.

"Well, looks like we've got some homework to do," Ethan said, scratching Sylveon behind the ear. "But hey, at least we're doing pretty well, huh?"

The Pokémon purred happily, and Ethan smiled.
