Chapter 459: What’s Left of You
* Happy New Month of July!... Also sorry about the updates. My country was on fire and it was hard to get back to normal... Hopefully this month will be better. cheers to that!
[SICARIO]
"I need to show you someone. Maybe if you see him too, I won't be going out of my mind," Rukiya said as she led the way. She looked like she wanted so desperately to prove to herself that she wasn't going bonkers and that it wasn't all in her head.
Maybe she was losing her touch with reality, but then she needed to affirm that because at the moment, everything seemed to be going so wrong and she couldn't even breathe well without Hawi.
She wanted to know what Hawi was up to, but at the same time, she was scared of the possible truth. Each day, Rukiya Greyson woke up to an entirely different reality, one so tangled up that it got her wondering what the fuck was going on.
The universe wasn't supposed to be this challenging for them, especially when all they had hoped for was love, unconditional love. Funny how that had turned them to this point ever so shamelessly, and with so much confusion.
"I see you finally found Adolf, huh?" Hudhayfah said, and Rukiya paled. Of all the things that she had been expecting to hear from Hudhayfah, this was certainly not it and that itself made the Greyson Alpha question everything she believed in.
There was so much happening at the same time and it was so disheartening to even pay heed to. It was almost like someone was trying so hard to make sure life was not the same for them.
Ever since they had started going after the Russels, they were discovering things that even hell would frown upon.
Nothing was working anymore and regardless of everything they tried to pretend wasn't happening, there was no denying that this was not just about insanity anymore. Hell wasn't this cold.
"Wh—"
"I was alive long before most of the people here were alive, Rukiya. Of course, I could figure some things out along the way, however unhinged they were," Hudhayfah said and Rukiya stared at her healer, the questions in her eyes making him feel terrible for her.
He knew this wasn't the kind of life she had signed up for, but then at the same time, none of them was ever prepared for the madness that always came with the Russels and the fact that Hawi was the only one powerful enough to put them in their place was something that they could lean into.
That wild woman was unpredictable and there was no sign that she had made the Russels questioning everything they believed in more than once.
She was unpredictable and there wasn't a thing that anyone could day to convince Hudhayfah otherwise. She was the perfect one for the job, but what did that have to do with Adolf showing up at this particular moment?
"Why didn't you tell me? And how did you know? What's even going on? I feel like I am alive but so much is going on and I'm not even a part of it. What part of life are we even in?
"We have lost so many people along the way; we have endured things that no one would survive and yet it seems like we have to deal without undead too. Hell, how the fuck do we know who else is alive or not?
"And where the hell are we to find them, assuming that they are truly alive out there? when did we become a circus of crazies like this?" Rukiya rambled on and Hudhayfah just watched in silence.
He knew she needed to belt it out. He had seen her mourn her best friend and it wasn't something that was easy to deal with.
"I couldn't. It wasn't my place to tell you that, Rukiya. There are just some things that you have to learn by yourself along the way. No matter what I say or do, you will have to figure it all out because only you can make it work for yourself and the wolf girl.
"As for Adolf, I don't know much about how he survived the massacre, but I do know that one of the protectors thrust him into Sicario before they left. Perhaps because it was the only safe place, and I bet Hawi doesn't even know Adolf is alive on this side of the realm.
"She probably thinks that all of this is just for her to get justice for everyone she lost. And before you start talking about how powerful a woman she is and how everything was supposed to make sense to her, she can't know everything.
"She is just a girl thrust into a world that no one quite understands yet. Up until she showed up, we didn't know that it was possible to kill a Russel, much less capture them or make them do things that the universe would frown upon.
"But here we are, dealing with the impossible. This is a journey, pen that you must go into together because without that, there is nothing left for the both of you and it would really be a shame for that to happen," Hudhayfah defended and Rukiya sighed.
She hadn't expected that, but from what Hudhayfah was saying, she needed to brace herself for the impossible and the unexpected. It wasn't what anyone ever wanted to hear, but it was a truth that they had to come to terms with because regardless of what happened the goal remained the same.
They need to make the realm a safer place for everyone. They needed to make sure that there weren't any more Russels sprouting, but that wasn't going to be easy for them. Perhaps it was the greatest lesson for them to learn in the midst of all this.
They just needed to have a little faith and hope to the goddess that everything would be okay along the way.
"So, what do you suggest? Is Adolf even real? Is he even the same person that In knew before? It's been almost two years since I lost him. How do I know what is real and not real?" Rukiya based frustratedly.
This wasn't how she had imagined she would be coming back to whatever mess was here. She hadn't thought of the possibilities and the fact that they had also said Mbali was here raised more questions than one.
And for the first time in a while, Rukiya finally understood what it meant to be in Hawi's shows. The woman was feeling a lot in all the chaos and she couldn't afford to be another pain for Hawi.
Ruru had always known that being the white wolf had to be the greatest job in the realm, but what she had failed to consider was the fact that it would also be the worst job for any sane person.
Stay updated with empire
It was a job that demanded more than they all were capable of and truly Hawi needed to be given her flowers. She needed to be appreciated by everyone and they needed to come to terms with the fact that the mad wolf had every right to be mad.
She was shouldering a lot more than any sane person ever would.
"Be the white wolf's mate, Rukiya. That is what you need to be, the fates decided on you, despite knowing your history and your lineage. They believed in you to be there to help Hawi.
"So, if you can, be her relief and not another person she has to worry about," Hudhayfah said earnestly and Rukiya bowed her head in shame.
