The Radiant Light - [English Version]

Chapter 23: Aaaah! Don't eat me!!!!

In a forest quite far from the city, a 12-year-old boy was running as fast as he could. He seemed to be angry, upset. He was running while crying. Suddenly, as he neared the edge of the forest, he tripped and tumbled down a hill. Unfortunately, ahead of him lay a cliff that dropped hundreds of meters. He desperately tried to grab onto a branch hanging precariously from the cliffside. The boy was terrified and filled with regret. Why had he thrown a tantrum and run away from home? He had felt wronged, but now none of that mattered. He was about to fall into the abyss, and he was certain he would die. He cried, thinking of his loved ones. At that moment, his hands could no longer hold onto the branch, because after all, he was just a child, and his small body couldn't do much. In the end, he fell into the bottomless abyss, his scream tearing at the heart of anyone who might hear it.

In the darkness, a lifeless body lay amidst the softly flowing waters. How could a 12-year-old boy survive such a fall? His body was shattered, blood mixing with the water. No miracle occurred—until a small beam of light appeared from the sky, slowly descending into his body. The boy's fingers started to move, his eyes opened, and he slowly sat up. A miracle had somehow begun to heal his body until no wounds remained. The body had completely changed, from his face to his figure, even his voice. His black hair had turned white. He looked around, bewildered.

Boy: .........?

Suddenly, his head began to hurt. He clutched it tightly with both hands, trying to ease the pain.

Boy: Aaaaaaah!!!!!!

When the pain subsided, he slowly loosened his hands, his eyes wide in astonishment. It seemed like he had realized something.

Boy: I... am... a... human. (he muttered softly)

At this moment, his mind was very hazy. He wanted to leave. He struggled to climb the cliff, but it was too difficult. Suddenly, a rope slowly dropped from above. He looked up but could only see a shadow waving at him because the sunlight was shining directly into his eyes. He hesitated for a moment before deciding to climb. When he reached the top, he encountered a girl, about his age, with pointed ears and bright blue eyes, dressed in natural-looking clothes.

Girl: .... ... .... ....... .. . ! ..... ...... ..... ......?

Boy: I don't understand! (he shook his head)

The girl raised her hand to her forehead, then grabbed his hand and led him away. He didn't know where she was taking him, but he followed anyway, as he didn't know what else to do. For some reason, her gestures and actions made him feel quite safe, so he didn't feel the need to be cautious. Perhaps it was because she had saved him.

She led him into the forest, deep inside, until he saw a gigantic tree, and he was awestruck by the sight. At that moment, several people jumped down from the tree and surrounded them. The girl was pulled behind someone, leaving him surrounded by the group. They began talking to each other, some arguing while others seemed to be explaining. In the end, an old man appeared, and the group parted to let him approach the boy.

...: My name is Oga. What is your name? Boy: Name? (He shook his head). Oga: "What a strange thing. A 12-year-old human boy with no name. From his clothes, it's clear he came from the city. This is most unusual." (thinking) Oga: Do you not have a name?

The boy still shook his head. The girl tugged lightly at Oga's shirt. He looked at her and then back at the boy. He stared at the boy for a moment before deciding to take him somewhere. Oga signaled to the others not to follow. They seemed reluctant but complied.

Oga: You stay here as well, Ami!

Ami smiled at him and nodded.

Oga took the boy by the hand and led him to a place where there was a sphere made entirely of leaves.

Oga: I have something I want to ask for your advice on, Leaffa!

A voice from inside the sphere told them to enter, and the large sphere gradually opened, creating an entrance for them to step through.

Oga: Don't be afraid, boy, just follow me.

The two of them entered. In front of them stood a rather large woman, about 2.3 meters tall. Her body was covered in leaves, and it seemed the entire giant sphere was connected to her.

Oga: I have a child here. He seems lost and was brought back to the village by Ami. When I asked him his name, he just shook his head.

The woman gradually approached the boy, reaching out to caress his cheek, and then slowly embraced him.

Boy: Aaah Aaahh. Oga: Hey! What are you doing?

At that moment, Ami rushed over, trying to pull the boy away from Leaffa, but she wasn't strong enough. Ami punched her head a few times before Leaffa finally stopped. She slowly let go of the boy.

Boy: (Breathing heavily) (He looked terrified, as if he had almost been eaten.) Oga: Why are you here, Ami? Ami: I was curious, so I followed! Ami: Why did Dryas hold onto him like she wanted to swallow him whole? Leaffa, are you sick? Leaffa: I... I'm sorry. I just... A!! I felt something strange in the boy, a powerful force. I wanted to know what it was, so I embraced him. Sorry for scaring you. (She smiled.) Boy: It's okay, I was just a bit scared.

The boy could understand what Leaffa and Oga were saying, but not Ami's words. It seemed Oga could speak both the boy's language and his own people's language. As for Leaffa, she was truly strange; whatever she said, everyone could understand, even though they heard different languages.

Ami: Is that really the case? It looked more like she was about to eat him up! Oga: AMI!!! Did I teach you to speak like that? Ami: HMPH, I'm just saying what I think! Oga: This child... I should have known when you were acting obedient that you were plotting something in your head. (Oga sighed.)

Leaffa: Alright, alright. Please forgive me, Ami. Ami: Then give me two apples. Leaffa: "This girl! Already making demands." (Thinking) Leaffa: Of course. Here, I'll give you some. (Leaffa reached out and patted her head.)

Ami grinned and backed away behind Oga, biting into the apple she had just received.

Oga: So, how should we resolve this, Leaffa?

Leaffa: The boy might have lost his memory. We should help him find his family.

Oga: That's too difficult. We don't have much contact with humans, and the nearest city is enormous. How could we possibly find his family in that sea of people?

Ami: Can he stay here? I'll take care of him.

Oga: What are you saying, Ami? You're so little, how can you take care of him?

Ami: I just got two apples from Leaffa. You couldn't do that!

Oga: This girl!!!

Leaffa: Alright, let's not argue. This isn't the right time. Maybe we should let him stay for now.

Oga: This matter…

Leaffa: Trust me, Oga. We'll sort it out later.

Oga: I guess that's the best option.

Ami: Yay, Yay!!! (She jumped up, celebrating.)

Ami grabbed his hand and ran off, leaving Oga and Leaffa behind.

Leaffa: Anything else, Oga?

Oga: What should we call him?

Leaffa: A name? Hmm... Let's call him Amai. I think Ami will like that name.

Oga: (*Sighs) Alright, let's go with that. If there's nothing else, I'll be leaving.

Leaffa nodded, and Oga walked away.

Leaffa: "He really smells sweet, mmm…" (Thinking)
