Chapter 21: Where am ı?
The sun had begun its slow descent by the time we left the Pokémon Center, casting a warm, golden glow over Pewter City. With my Pokémon fully healed and resting in their Pokéballs, I followed Brock toward his home, which was from what he told located behind the museum. The towering structure stood proudly in the distance, its silhouette sharp against the slowly darkening sky.
As we walked, Brock turned to me with an easygoing expression. "So, where are you from?" He asked
After a moment's pause, I settled on my answer. "I'm from Sinnoh."
Brock raised a brow, clearly intrigued. "Sinnoh, huh? I've been there before. Spent couple of months there."
I nearly tripped over my own feet.
"What? You've been to Sinnoh?" This lead could make me understand which universe ı was in!
Brock chuckled at my reaction, shoving his hands into his pockets. "Yeah. Went there alone to meet an old friend. He's a Gym Leader too. Now that ı think about it do you know Roark?" He asked while I froze.
What the hell is going on?!
My mind raced. Brock never traveled to Sinnoh in the games or manga. In the anime, yes—but he wasn't alone. He went with Ash and Dawn.
So where exactly was I?
I had assumed this world followed the anime's timeline, but now I wasn't so sure. Did Brock travelled there after the events of the game? Or was it completly different? If so What else Changed too?
I felt the weight of uncertainty settle in my chest. This wasn't just about minor differences ı understood that ı was in future but could it be completely altered?
I was so lost in thought that I didn't even notice Brock had stopped walking until he suddenly grabbed my shoulders and shook me lightly.
"Hey, kid. You okay?" His voice was laced with concern, and I saw Rotom floating beside him, its screen flickering with worry.
[Alex Carter, you just stood there mumbling to yourself! Are you sure you're okay? Do you need something?]
I quickly shook my head, forcing a smile. "No, no. I'm fine! Just… something crossed my mind."
Brock eyed me, clearly unconvinced, but he let it go with a sigh. "You're a weird kid."
He started walking again, dropping the subject. His curiosty was still on his face but he did not digged any further.
The rest of the walk was quiet, but as we neared Brock's house, the silence was broken by the sound of battle.
"Charizard, use Flamethrower!"
A powerful roar split through the air, followed by the whoosh of intense flames.
"Seviper, Protect!" a woman's voice countered, calm but firm.
Brock grinned. "C'mon, kid! This could be a good experience for you! Pros in action!"
Before I could respond, he took off running.
I had no choice but to follow.
As we rounded the corner of his house, I finally saw the battlefield.
A big Charizard hovered in the air, its orange scales glowing from the flames burning in its throat. Its wings flapped powerfully, creating strong gusts of wind that sent dust flying.
On the ground, a sleek, black-scaled Seviper coiled defensively. Its crimson fangs gleamed in the dimming sunlight, and its yellow blade-like tail flicked dangerously.
But my attention wasn't on the Pokémon.
It was on the trainers.
The woman commanding Seviper was tall and elegant, with long black hair streaked with deep crimson highlights. Her red eyes burned with intensity, mirroring the fierce gaze of her Pokémon. She wore a long, flowing purple dress, and despite standing still, she carried herself like a warrior ready to strike at any moment.
And standing across from her was—
Him.
A kid, no older than ten, wearing a cap that partially hid his short black hair. His skin was pale similar to the woman but his sharp, focused eyes were unmistakable.
I recognized him immediately.
The same brat who tricked me at the entrance of Viridian Forest.
The one who stoled my 144 pokedollar from me.
I turned to Brock, my brain short-circuiting.
"Wait—is that your kid?"
Brock grinned, puffing his chest out with pride. "Yeah! Don't you think he looks just like his mother?"
I didn't answer.
Because suddenly, I wasn't just looking at Brat who stoled my money. Even ıf ı tried to scold him. What was ı going to do against that Charizard and cherry on top ı could not Scold the Kid of Brock.
Then ı looked at the woman once again my eyes settled on her, my mind whirled.
She looked too familiar.
The long black hair, the deep crimson streaks, the sharp, calculating red eyes. And then there was her Seviper, its sleek, deadly body coiling beside her like an extension of her own presence.
A Seviper.
From Hoenn.
That hair with Red lowlights similar to Seviper's Fangs.
And then it clicked.
Pike Queen Lucy.
I muttered her name in disbelief, my voice barely above a whisper.
She heard me.
Brock and Lucy both turned to face me, their expressions shifting from curiosity to mild surprise.
"You know her?" Brock asked.
Then she took a few steps closer, her eyes narrowing slightly. "Yeah? Do you know me?"
I hesitated. My brain scrambled for an answer, for a lie that made sense.
"Ah—uh—when I was a kid, my father always made me watch the Battle Frontier on TV," I said quickly, forcing a grin. "I know you from there."
For a moment, she just stared at me. Then, a smirk tugged at her lips.
"Hah! I wasn't expecting to meet a fan after all these years," she said, crossing her arms, looking genuinely pleased.
Brock chuckled beside her. "You've been retired for what—fifteen years now, love?"
Lucy let out a deep sigh, rolling her shoulders. "Yeah… it's been a long time. By the way who are yo-"
Before she could say anything else, however, her kid cut in.
"Aha! Now I remember!" The brat suddenly pointed at me, his eyes gleaming with mischief. "You're the guy who refused to battle me and just gave me free money!"
I felt a vein pop in my forehead.
Before I could react, Lucy smacked the back of his hand.
"Jake! Don't be rude to our guest!" she scolded, crouching slightly to meet his eyes.
I love her already.
Brock scratched the back of his head sheepishly. "Anyway, honey, this is the kid Mr. Willson called me for. He defeated me, so I'm treating him a dinner."
Lucy raised a brow and grinned. "You're getting rusty. That's your second loss today, isn't it?"
Brock's expression immediately stiffened. "Uh—"
"I think it's time to start training again, don't you think so?" she continued, leaning in slightly, her tone suddenly dangerous for brock.
Brock gulped.
I took the opportunity to ask something I'd been wondering and save Brock. "Hey, Brock… by any chance, was the other trainer who beat you was named Sammy? Y'know, with an Axew?"
Brock's shoulders slumped, and he sighed dramatically. "Yes. He spammed Dragon Rage and destroyed me. It was so boring to lose that way."
Lucy let out a soft chuckle. "Are you two rivals or something?" she asked, recalling Seviper back into its Pokéball.
"I guess so," I admitted. "We both started in Pallet Town, got our starters at the same time… and so on."
At that, Brock suddenly let out a small laugh.
Lucy gave him an amused side glance before turning to me. "What's so funny? Did he say something weird?"
Brock shook his head. "No, no. They just… reminded me of some people I used to know."
He didn't elaborate any further while making my brain a mess once again.
Instead, he turned toward the house and stretched. "Alright! I'm gonna make some food. Hope you like Tauros meat!"
With that, he stepped inside, leaving me alone with Lucy and brat.
Lucy crossed her arms, tilting her head slightly. "So, you beat my husband, huh?"
I straightened a bit under her scrutiny. "Uh… yeah."
She studied me for a moment longer, then gave a nod. "Show me what Pokémon you have."
I turned to look for Rotom to save me, but of course it had already floated inside with Brock.
"Y-Yes, ma'am."
I reached for Aria and Oddy's Pokéballs and released them.
The moment the light faded, Oddy and Aria found themselves face-to-face with two things:
A fire-breathing Charizard.
And two pairs of sharp, red eyes watching them intently two of them scarlet red,two of them closed...
For a moment, Aria and Oddy stood frozen.
It was like they had been placed in front of an apex predator, their small bodies stiff with unease. Aria's scarlet eyes flickered, and Oddy shuffled a bit behind me, his leaves trembling ever so slightly.
"What about these two,are they one of the adapted Pokemon I heard on TV?" he said then while Lucy stepped closer.
With a sudden, unexpected movement, she reached out and gently lifted Aria's bangs, revealing her large, deep-red eyes.
Then silence.
Then, Lucy's expression completely changed.
Her intense, battle-hardened stare melted away into pure adoration.
"Ohhhh, aren't you just the cutest little thing!" she practically squealed, lifting Aria off the ground.
Aria let out a startled noise as Lucy hugged her tightly, rocking her side to side like a child with a new plush toy.
I stood there, completely stunned.
Oddy, too, blinked in confusion, looking up at me as if waiting for an explanation.
Then it hit me.
She LOVES Seviper. I mean, she fell in love with Brock because his face reminded her of Sevipers....
And Aria's red eyes… they looked like a Seviper's.
It was over for Aria.
While Aria struggled slightly in her grip, Lucy continued cooing over her, her sharp, calculating demeanor completely gone.
Meanwhile, the brat watched all of this with a completely unimpressed look.
"So, you beat my dad with these two tiny things?"
I turned to him, snapping back to reality. "Uh… yes?"
Jake narrowed his eyes. "Both of them did their job?"
"Yep."
His frown deepened as he crossed his arms. "Tell me how you did it! It took me at least four tries to beat him with my Charmander!"
I raised an eyebrow, smirking a little. "Maybe you're just bad,Do you even know what are the type are?"
"HEY! Of course ı know!"
I chuckled as he stomped closer, already bombarding me with questions about how ı did it.
As he fired away, I slowly stepped inside the house, answering some of his questions while keeping an eye on Lucy—who was still showering Aria with endless praise.
Oddy hesitated for a moment, torn between helping his poor teammate escape or following me.
After a few seconds, he made his decision.
With a small sigh, Oddy turned away from Aria's suffering and trotted after me and Jake, leaving her to fend for herself.
At least until Brock and Rotom finally returned.
The evening passed in a blur.
Between eating and talking the night felt good. Oddy and Aria had spent most of their time entertaining Brock's family as they were different from all of the pokemons.
Jake, however, couldn't last forever.
The kid barely managed to stay awake after dinner, his energy draining fast after hours of running around with Aria and Oddy. Eventually, Lucy picked him up, carrying him upstairs to put him to bed.
That left me and Brock alone in the dimly lit living room.
For a while, neither of us spoke.
Then, Brock leaned back in his chair, stretching a little before resting his arms behind his head. He looked at me with an easy smirk.
"Well?" he said. "I told you I'd answer your questions. So, go ahead."
I let out a deep sigh, gathering my thoughts.
There were not much of things I wanted to ask, except one question weighed the heaviest on my mind.
"…The trainers you mentioned before," I began, "were you talking about Red and Blue? Or… Ash and Gary?"
Brock's smirk faded slightly. He gave me a curious look.
"I have no idea who 'Ash' and 'Gary' are," he said. "But yeah, I was talking about Red and Blue how do you know them?"
The answer sent a jolt through me.
I sat there, staring at him, my mind racing.
That's… weird.
Ash and Gary were anime-exclusive. Red and Blue were from the games and manga. But if Brock doesn't know Ash, then I'm definitely not in the anime.
And it's not the manga either since Officer Jenny exists here.
Then… is this the future of Pokémon Yellow? ı asked to myself
I clenched my fist slightly.
Brock raised an eyebrow. "You good? You're making a face."
I quickly shook off my thoughts and forced a grin. "Yeah, yeah, just thinking."
He didn't push.
Instead, I decided to switch gears.
I had my answer. I wasn't in the anime. I wasn't in the manga. And I probably wasn't in a direct copy of the game either since ı am in the future of the game.
But that was fine.
Instead of stressing over it, I might as well ask him something else since when was ı going to talk with The Brock?
I leaned forward, smirking slightly.
"So… how did you and Lucy meet?"
Brock blinked.
Then, he let out a deep laugh. "Oh, man. That's a story."
He shook his head, a nostalgic look crossing his face.
"It all started back when ı went to train together with Roxanne in Hoenn…"
