The Path of a Genius to Becoming a Pokémon Champion

Chapter 357: Infuriatingly Solid

The moment she saw Specter take the field, Marilyn went completely numb.

There was another detail about Leafeon just now—

First, it had continuously retreated to lure the Weezing closer, then it had run in the opposite direction, and finally, the spot where it had left the Baton Pass barrier was exactly where it had first appeared on the field.

The initial starting position for each round.

This way, after the switch, when Specter entered the field, the barrier was right at its feet. It could pick up the energy sigil with just a glance.

Marilyn had no chance to stop or interrupt it.

The referee was still confirming with her, but on the field, Specter was already raring to go, just waiting for the match to start so it could pick up the Baton Pass sigil and begin its rampage.

Watching this scene, Marilyn felt her entire body go numb.

This script has completely fallen apart!

Helpless, she ultimately chose to recall her Weezing first.

No matter what, as a professional player, she still had to struggle a bit.

If she recalled her Weezing now, maybe there would be a chance to use it against Arthur's Charizard or Greninja later?

Just in case, right?

She then used her mid-battle switch and sent out a Dark-type Liepard.

This was the absolute limit of what she could do now.

The original script was not supposed to be like this—

Initially, the Serenity Team's plan was to have Weezing stall and wear down the Charizard with Toxic.

Then, they had prepared a Galvantula to counter Greninja.

Finally, using the advantage accumulated in the early game, they would try to take down Specter with a team effort!

It had been a very comprehensive idea, a complete tactical plan that could have been written into a script of a dozen chapters.

Unfortunately, in practice, the first chapter, "The Attack of the Weezing," had just begun when the second chapter already reached its grand finale: "It's Over!"

Marilyn was feeling the pain.

The commentators on the scene were mercilessly rubbing salt in the wound.

"Although the player Marilyn has sent out a Liepard, which does have some type advantage, facing a Gengar with a buff, I feel it still won't be able to hold on."

"That's right. Liepard is not as skilled in defense as Weezing, and it generally doesn't have many defensive moves. Against Arthur's Gengar, which has a boost to both its attack stats, it will likely be very difficult to stand its ground."

Even though they were in the Serenity Team's home stadium, now even the commentators weren't on their side.

You could see just how difficult the current situation was.

In fact, after the match resumed, the commentators weren't even talking about the match anymore.

Because there really wasn't much to talk about—Specter, having inherited the Work Up energy sigil, was now like a god of a new world, chasing the Liepard all over the field.

The commentators were still evaluating Arthur's unexpected Leafeon.

"I never thought Arthur would have developed a new Pokémon so quickly. What an incredible training ability! With this, Arthur's tactical system has become even more complete. It will likely be even more difficult for other teams to target him in the future."

Although Leafeon hadn't revealed much in the brief exchange, just the move Baton Pass alone was a huge headache.

The other commentator quickly added.

"That's right. In the past, when facing Arthur, most teams were probably thinking more about how to defend against his ferocious close-range attacks. But now, they have another problem to worry about, and that is how to stop Leafeon from passing the baton."

Simply put, before, they only had to worry about defense against Arthur. Now, they also had to worry about his offense.

The pressure had doubled, and so had the joy.

And so, the masks of pain were put on…

And the Serenity Team was the first in line!

Soon, Specter finished off the Liepard with its stormy offense. The entire process didn't even take two minutes. After it was done, it turned its back, and in a display of unfulfilled desire, it licked its lips, looking completely at ease.

Then, to maximize the duration of the buff, Arthur didn't switch Pokémon in the second round, having Specter fight again!

This was a bitter pill for Marilyn to swallow.

What now?

The Dark-type Pokémon, which had some resistance to Ghost, couldn't withstand Specter's attacks. What else could she do?

So, for the second round, Marilyn had no choice but to send out a Normal-type Pokémon that was largely immune to Ghost: Porygon-Z.

A Pokémon that looks like a small bird with a high-tech design.

Unfortunately, as the saying goes, only magic can defeat magic!

The futuristic design didn't help Porygon-Z create a miracle. The Normal type is largely immune to Ghost, but Specter also had a very slick Poison-type Sludge Bomb.

The Work Up left by Leafeon not only boosted physical strength but also energy intensity, raising both attack stats. It didn't limit Specter's offensive options.

In the end, this Porygon-Z only managed to cause Specter a bit more trouble. The final result was still the same.

At most, the commentators just had to awkwardly praise her for longer…

Another two-for-one!

With the buff, Specter smoothly secured a double kill!

Soon, the match reached its final round. Marilyn was only left with her Weezing, which had appeared once at the very beginning.

This time, the Weezing, radiating its Neutralizing Gas, had become her last hope!

As long as she wasn't shut out, it would be a success!

But at the start of this round, Arthur calmly recalled Specter, whose buff was about to expire, and then switched to Mismagius.

In that instant, Marilyn's last hope was also shattered. Her entire being seemed to turn gray…

The commentators mercilessly criticized Arthur.

"This is infuriatingly solid!"

"That's just too much!!"

Mismagius's Levitate ability was of little value, so it didn't care about the close-range silence effect of Weezing's Neutralizing Gas.

Mismagius had Aromatherapy. Curing poison was a piece of cake. It wasn't afraid of Weezing's Toxic at all.

Weezing's body was as pliable as rubber, with excellent cushioning ability and a great defense against physical attacks. But Mismagius was one of the few Pokémon on Arthur's team that didn't rely on physical moves for damage. She could use Curse to debuff it.

When you add it all up, all of Weezing's counters against Arthur were useless against Mismagius.

In the final round, because Arthur had won the previous one, he got to send out his Pokémon first. The moment he threw Mismagius onto the field, the opponent Marilyn's spirit had already broken.

She felt tired. Destroy me. Quickly… was her mood.

At this point, even the home fans in the stadium couldn't bear to watch anymore.

Not to mention, the Weezing was still afflicted with Leech Seed…

You could only say that it was a sad story to hear, a tearful one to watch.

Sure enough, amidst the commentators' cries of "This is too cruel!", the Weezing, which had been specially prepared to counter Charizard and Greninja, was played like a fiddle by Mismagius.

A few minutes later, the referee raised his flag—

"Weezing is unable to battle!"

And with that, Arthur had achieved another 3-0 victory!

This was already his fourth shutout of the season
