The Path of a Genius to Becoming a Pokémon Champion

Chapter 300: The Charicific Valley

"You're saying your brother's Charizard is the boss of that valley now?"

Arthur asked, almost to himself.

"Yeah! Pretty cool, right? He was already the boss when we came to visit two years ago!"

Arthur frowned but didn't directly refute him.

However, this look of doubt was keenly caught by Caleb.

"What, you don't believe me? You'll see when we get to the valley. I'll show you how strong my brother's Pokémon is! Hmph~ then you'll know that your 'Best Rookie' title is nothing in front of my brother!"

Arthur said nothing.

He had no need to argue with a middle schooler about this.

But later, when they stopped to set up camp, he couldn't help but pull the curled-up Celebi out of his backpack.

"Waaaaah! You cruel Arthur! Stuffing me in your bag like this! I'm a Mythical Pokémon!! A Mythical!!"

Specter immediately materialized behind Celebi, its solid body blocking out the last rays of the evening sun. Its shadow completely enveloped Celebi.

Celebi instantly flinched.

Remembering the glorious achievements of the being behind it, who had tormented various Legendary Pokémon over the past two hundred years, Celebi very decisively backed down.

"Uh… haha, actually, it's pretty nice in the backpack. I… I, I was just a little hungry."

Arthur ignored the little slacker's antics.

Mythical Pokémon couldn't be stored in Poké Balls, so if he wanted to bring Celebi along, stuffing it in his bag was the only option.

"I'll get you food in a bit. First, let me ask you something. Are you sure my Charizard is in this mountain range?"

Celebi shrank its neck.

"It… it should be. Although he's blocked my observation, based on the past fragments I've seen in the river of time, he should have been living in seclusion here for the past hundred years and hasn't gone anywhere."

"No other accidents?"

"I didn't see any before. How about you let me absorb some of your energy, and I'll take another look?"

Smack.

Arthur slapped its little forehead, his action a clear answer: in your dreams.

Even after getting confirmation from Celebi again, Arthur's doubts were still not resolved.

Afterward, the group of four set up their tents and rested for the night in the mountains.

The Mount Axewood area was vast. A single day's trek was definitely not enough to reach the central Charicific Valley, which was why Arthur needed to carry such a large hiking backpack.

Caleb's family was in the same situation.

The next morning, they got up and set off again.

After another full day of hiking, on the morning of their third day in the mountains, they finally arrived at a low-lying valley at the junction between the front and back of Mount Axewood.

This was the famous Charicific Valley!

Of course, it wasn't only home to Charizard. There were many other Fire and Rock-type Pokémon commonly found in volcanic areas, such as Magcargo, Aerodactyl, Coalossal, and so on.

And, of course, there were the various wild animals that served as their food, such as antelopes, goats, and wild boars.

On their way, Arthur's group had seen a goat, leaping between the cliffs, suddenly have its neck snapped by a diving Aerodactyl. The Aerodactyl then clutched its meal in its hind talons and soared into the sky, casting a cruel glance at the group in the forest before it left.

Although this area was within human territory, not all the Pokémon here came from the human world. Many had lived in these mountains since birth, never having seen the splendors of human civilization. Their wild nature was untamed, making them quite dangerous to approach.

Startled by the wild Aerodactyl that had just swooped past, Caleb's legs felt a bit weak.

"I… maybe we should just stop here. We can call for Charizard to come and get us."

Arthur, however, was perfectly calm, his pace unwavering.

This was finally starting to feel like a real wilderness expedition.

"It's fine. We should be very close now."

Perhaps spurred on by Arthur's calmness, Caleb didn't want to look too cowardly. He grit his teeth and hurried to catch up.

"R-right! Just a little further! N-nothing to be afraid of!"

Arthur glanced back at him, thinking, you'd be more convincing if you could control the trembling in your voice.

After another hour of walking, they finally descended to the bottom of the valley.

Just then, a deafening roar echoed from ahead.

They all recognized the sound—

"It's the roar of a Charizard! We're finally here!"

But the roar was fierce and somewhat mixed, suggesting there was more than one Charizard. And it sounded like they were fighting.

The group exchanged curious glances.

They all quickened their pace.

The roars guided them forward. Following a stream at the bottom of the valley, they soon arrived in a basin surrounded by sheer cliffs on three sides. Many Charizard were perched on the protruding rock faces, while numerous Charmeleon and Charmander sat on the lower ledges.

This was, without a doubt, the famous Charicific Valley!

And in the center of the basin, just as they had judged from the sounds, two adult Charizard were locked in a fierce battle!

Although neither of the combatants had a trainer commanding them, their fighting style was not chaotic at all. Their flight, evasion, and use of moves were all incredibly methodical, displaying a high level of combat proficiency!

Both of these Charizard were very strong!

The occasional stray Air Slash or Flamethrower would slam into the surrounding cliffs, creating thunderous booms and sending countless rocks tumbling down!

This further proved the power of these two Charizard.

But after a quick glance, Arthur soon looked away, a hint of disappointment in his eyes.

Neither of these was his former ace. They were both too young.

His gaze then swept across the surrounding rock walls. None of the Charizard perched on the cliffs, watching the fight, had any reaction to his arrival…

Where on earth was his Charizard?

Just then, Caleb let out a joyful cheer.

"Haha, it's my brother's Charizard! Right there!!"

He was pointing at one of the two Charizard currently fighting in the center of the basin!

And it was the one that was gradually gaining the upper hand.

So that's Julian's former main Charizard? Arthur felt a sense of "I knew it."

That Charizard was indeed very strong, worthy of being one of the best among captain-level Pokémon. Even without a trainer's command, it possessed astonishing combat power in the wild.

Caleb was ecstatic, dancing with excitement.

Because he could see that his brother's Charizard was about to win.

But Arthur was frowning.

Caleb had found the one he was looking for, but he had not.

His own Charizard… where could it be?
