The Paradisus Chronicles Book 1: Vengeance

Chapter 10: The Fifth Column

"This event has been going on for one hour. I will be announcing all the casualties up to this point. All the members of Team Delta have been defeated by the evolved Demetra that is on the battlefield. The Vordonians have lost all the people except for their leader at the hands of the members of the Gama Squad.

The members of Team Beta have been eliminated by those of Team Alpha. I will be giving you an update in one more hour if the event is still going on." I heard the announcer for The Right of Selection say throughout the tower.

"Well, it seems that the other members of my race have failed in fulfilling the objective that I have given them." The Vordonian leader said as she started to walk towards me with an intense look of aggression on her face. "In the end, though, if I want it done right, then I will have to do it myself."

"If you think that I will lose to you without putting up a decent fight, at least, then you are quite mistaken," I said to her as I pointed my dual scythes at her.

"Also, you will have to deal with me". I heard Cindy say as she suddenly appeared from behind the female Vordonian in a sadistic voice as she released her hand from behind her neck. "You are mistaken if you think that you do not have to worry about me as an enemy".

Cindy walked up to me and grabbed an energy staff that was on her back, and she started to thrust it at the Vordonian's back while she was lying on the floor.

"You must be even more dumb than the rocks that make up the floor of this tower if you think that something as weak as a simple poison could even work on a more advanced and superior body like mine." The Vordonian said as I saw her rise to her feet, and she grabbed Cindy's staff and killed her in one quick counter burst into her stomach.

I rushed over to her while her back was turned to me, but as I thrust my dual scythes into her back, she vaulted over me in one jump. Next, she killed me in one swift strike around the center of my neck.

"You will have to remember that no matter how hard your feeble Terran race tries, they will never be able to even come close in might to our race. That is just a fact of life. Our god has treated us much better than yours."

After she spoke, she pulled out the staff and my life started to leave my body as I hit the floor.

"Have you set the dial correct for his blood type? We do not want you to cause a mix-up like you did four months ago." I heard a deep male voice say from within the darkness.

"Yes sir. I will not make that kind of mistake again". I heard a soft female voice say in submission to the male voice that just spoke.

Why could I hear those human voices? I thought that I had died at the hands of that female Vordonian female.

The dark area that was around me started to fade away, and as the light began to replace the darkness, I noticed that I was in a healing tank that had green liquid inside of it that was healing my body and restoring my stamina.

The very first thing that I noticed as my eyes opened was that I was inside a glass tank while floating inside some kind of healing liquid.

I looked at the room around me that had entirely white walls. I saw that I was in some kind of medical exam room. In this room, I saw that there was a glass cabinet against the left wall. This room had a main door as well as a side door out of it.

There were three scientists in the room. The first scientist that I saw was a medium-height blond male who was truly in charge of the people in this room. The second scientist was a young female with long, curly black hair who was no older than I was. There was a third scientist who was in the room tapping on a data pad.

"Since the patent is now awake, I will need you to check on him and try not to screw something as simple as this up." The male scientist said as he hit the table that was in between the two of them.

"Yes sir". The lady scientist said in her submissive tone as she started to examine the dials and computer screens that were in front of my healing pod.

After she turned a dial on the right side of the tank the liquid that I was floating inside started to drain out of the tank. Then the glass that was restricting my movement opened and my naked body got a sudden shock as it fell onto the cold white marble floor.

I then watched the female doctor walk over to the glass cabinet, and she pulled out a clean set of healer robes. Then she tossed the healer robes to me.

"Here, put these on, and I will have to do something on you first before I release you from this room." She said as I saw every other scientist walk through the right-side door and out of the room.

I put on the healer robes and as soon as I did, she started to ask me questions.

"What is your name?" she asked me while looking at the tablet.

"Danny," I said to her, and I noticed that she was still looking at her tablet.

"Which caste were you a former member of before your Klitron?"

"I was a former member of the crafter caste".

"Now I have one final question that I am required to ask you. Are you or do you know any members of The Fifth Column terrorist movement?"

"No, I am not an active member of The Fifth Column terrorist movement, and no I do not know any active members of it," I told her trying not to laugh at the thought of what she had asked me

"Since you have answered all of my questions you can now go and be among all of the other people that participated in The Right of Selection." She said as I saw that she looked up from the tablet and walked out through the side door.

I still could not believe that she thought that I was a member of The Fifth Column terrorist movement. To my knowledge, though, this group was nothing more than a rumor.

Either way, if they were real or not, I had to hope that I had placed high enough in The Right of Selection that I would secure a descent-ranking house for Nora and me to work within their future attempts to bring the galaxy to peace.

As I walked out of the exam room I was suddenly greeted by Nora. This brought joy to my new body as she jumped up on my back.

"Do not worry; I miss you too, baby," I told her as I started to carry her over to the section of the room where I saw all the other healers gathered in one group.

When I looked around, I did not see Fredrick or Maranda in the group, and that made me feel very uneasy.

"Well, at least you made it back, Dann,y, my broth, er," Donovan said to me as he bumped fists with me.

"So where are Fredrick and Maranda?" I asked Donovan as I looked around, displaying confusion as to why they were not there.

"I do not know where they are. The event has been over for about two hours, so I do not understand why they have not returned." Donovan said to me as Nora got off my back.

"Have you not heard the rumors about them?" I heard a tall black Terran that had dreads say in response to what Donovan said to me. "You know the truth brother. It is as plain as day to you. They were both active members of The Fifth Column terrorist movement."

Donivon walked up to him and I could tell that he was about to do something that he would most likely regret.

"Do you to say that to my face, brother?" Donovan said as he started playing with the other black male's dreadlocks.

"Yeah, you heard me the first time unless you are deaf. The members of your weak and pathetic healer's caste that are not here are members of The Fifth Column terrorist movement". He said as he pushed Donivon's hand away from his dreadlocks.

I made my way over to them and got in between the two of them.

"Come on, Donivon, he is not worth it," I said to him as I started to push Donivon away from this conflict.

"Yeah, Donivon; just listen to your little white boy like his little bitch when he tells you what to do."

Donovan then broke free of me and punched him in the face, which knocked him to the ground.

"First off if you dare insult another of my healer brothers or sisters again, I will do more than just knock you onto the ground. Secondly, I am not a white man's bitch we are equals.

At least I can say that there was no boring part of this event. After this day I am going to miss the people that I have spent the last four years with.
