Chapter 111. R.I.P To Everything In That General Direction
Since he was in the tunnel, Helion knew the god of alchemy's look-alike was chasing after him.
He also knew that the god of alchemy was too powerful and was only weakened because the metal tunnel made earth manipulation cumbersome. Once they exited, the look-alike could definitely catch him in an instant.
That's why instead of immediately running away, Helion hid behind a wall while spraying potions to remove his smell. Then, he immediately pulled a glass bottle and started imbuing mana into two processed materials.
The moment the god of alchemy exited the passage, Helion saw him walk toward a garden and summoned a golden light before flying. The sight of someone with earth blessing flying is surprising, but Helion knows it's the time he has been waiting for.
By flying, there will be a considerable distance between the god of alchemy and the ground. It means there'll be a delay in his earth manipulation.
With his prepared magic, Helion cast a fireball. Soon, the other spell he had prepared also activated. Instantly, a massive wind that greatly strengthened the fireball. He also threw the glass bottle he brought out toward the fireball. Inside the bottle, there's a poison that'll turn into a gaseous state upon contact with heat.
After the poisons turned into a gaseous state, they were blown away by the wind that strengthened the fireball and surged together toward Lacius.
As the poisonous fireball shot toward Lacius, he immediately erected an earth wall while evading downward to hide behind the wall. Even so, the earth wall failed to protect him thoroughly. The flame from the fireball burned his skin, while the gaseous poison brought by the wind caused his body to be weakened and turned bluish. The poison also seeps into his body through the injuries, which make the injured area change color.
For the first time in centuries, Lacius finally got injured by a surprise attack.
Sensing his situation, Lacius quickly drank antidotes and healing potions to stabilize his state, which gave enough time for Helion to escape.
After running a fair distance, Helion finally spotted a group of panicked priests fleeing after hearing the explosion and quickly hid among them.
Just as he felt a bit of relief and began preparing his escape route, the ground suddenly trembled.
As the tremors grew stronger, Helion's anxiety deepened, and a looming sense of threat washed over him.
His anxiety turned out to be accurate. From the trembling ground, many earth spikes shot up haphazardly. Those earthspikes killed more than half of the escaping priests and priestesses before exploding in all directions, which yet again killed a batch of priests.
"This is utterly crazy! Is that guy really this powerful?! Don't he care about the priests in the temple?" Helion didn't see it right away, but his gut feeling told him that the one behind this attack was, without a doubt, the god of alchemy.
In case of another attack, Helion kept running. Around him, many priests had already been injured or frozen in place. Some prayed desperately while others cried. The ones with more experience or clearer heads continued fleeing, dragging along the injured or those paralyzed by fear.
Before anyone could get far, the ground shook again. This time, no spikes or projectiles appeared. Instead, the tremors grew rapidly until the very earth itself flipped upward.
With a thunderous sound, a massive reverse waterfall entirely made of soil shot upwards.
Helion gritted his teeth and created a wide earth pillar that pushed him and a few nearby priests away from the epicenter.
Once most of his mana is exhausted, the earth pillar stops growing, and Helion looks backward to see that a part of the Temple has disappeared.
Instead of buildings, hallways, and gardens, there's a mountain that came from the result of that reverse waterfall made out of soil.
The mountain has probably buried the temple complex deep within it.
Furthermore, the attack was still not over. With another violent tremor, the mountain sank even deeper, swallowing down part of the temple along with it.
The talk mountain slowly got buried until only a small hill remained.
Seeing such an absurd scene, Helion can only pray that he can successfully escape.

A few minutes ago.
After being injured by Helion, Lacius hid himself while frowning, 'Should I continue to follow that escaped rat, or should I stop?'
Lacius spent a moment thinking about the pros and cons of both choices.
Compared to letting a Level 3 blessed escape, allowing others to see his weakened state was far more dangerous. At present, his status in the world was that of a god. If news of his injuries were to spread, people might slander him, and his reputation would plummet.
Spreading the word that he was merely a look-alike was also not an option. If he did, his control over the higher-ups of the Temple would inevitably weaken. After all, the main reason he held absolute authority in the Temple was because of his status as their god.
Support creative writers by reading their stories on Royal Road, not stolen versions.
On the other hand, if Helion escaped, the most he could do was to spread unverified gossip or gather his forces for revenge.
Lacius had already thought of several plans, such as issuing orders throughout the world and sending some of the Temple's Level 3 blessed to hunt Helion. This should be enough to force Helion to lie low, preventing him from gathering forces or spreading gossip.
Once his injuries are healed, Lacius could go and follow the traces to silently assassinate Helion.
After coming to a decision, Lacius didn't just leave. He planned to use a massive area attack as a 'farewell' gift before returning to his secret room to heal himself.
Who knows, the attack might have killed Helion by sheer luck.
Lacius gathered a century's worth of faith and most of his mana to activate two powers. First, he summoned a forest of earth spikes toward the general direction Helion might've escaped into.
Then, he immediately followed with an attack that directly flipped the earth upside down and sucking a part of the Temple's complex underground.
After spending a lot of mana and faith energy for an area attack, Lacius sighed, 'Perhaps I shouldn't be stingy with my faith energy. If I've used this much faith energy, that guy might've died already from the start.'
Lacius returned to his hidden room and called the Temple's higher-ups.
While hiding his injuries, Lacius commanded the higher-ups of the Temple."Send a killing order to the world. Helion has killed the High Priest and started a terrorist attack in the Temple. From now on, he'll be excommunicated, and anyone bringing his corpse will be granted a chance to pick an item in the Temple's treasury."

Inside the Divine Space, Cedric looked at the escaped Helion and let out the breath he had been holding.
After breathing, Cedric also released the emptied [Divine Intervention: Urge] he had been holding.
A few years ago, Helion caught Cedric's attention while he was inspecting the Crystal Cube World. At that time, Helion had successfully discovered magic, which made Cedric curse out loud in excitement.
Although the magic Helion has created isn't like the one he saw in fantasy stories, where the user can cast spells simply by casting or drawing runes. For his world, it's still a massive breakthrough in the way of using mana.
With the magic Helion created, it's now possible for a blessed to use power from other elements.
That's why, when he felt Helion had reached the Peak of Level 2, Cedric spent most of his time observing Helion to make sure Lacius wouldn't successfully kill him.
Although the two-year wait is beyond his expectations, Cedric is still relieved that he has successfully saved Helion.
'Initially, I thought I would need to waste a lot of GP to save him. But who knows Helion is actually so competent and that Lacius actually shot himself in the foot due to his paranoia.'
In total, Cedric only helped Helion by using [Divine Intervention: Urge] three times.
The first one is when Helion breathed in Lacius's incense.
Cedric used [Divine Intervention: Urge] to give Helion an instinct that Lacius is dangerous, and urged him to drink the antidote he brought.
Although Cedric failed to control the urge thoroughly and accidentally made Helion consume all of his antidote, at least it still resulted in Helion surviving Lacius's first move. Luckily, there's no serious side effect from drinking all of the antidote at once.
The second [Divine Intervention: Urge] is used to block Lacius from using an AOE attack while he's chasing after Helion in the tunnel.
After blocking lacius's AOE, Cedric followed after both of them until they left the tunnel.
When he saw Lacius being injured, Cedric could feel Lacius's anger, which made him instantly buy another [Divine Intervention: Urge] and make Lacius decide to stop chasing after Helion.
Thanks to the 30 GP he spent, Helion successfully left the Temple intact.
After using the [Divine Intervention: Urge] thrice in a row, Cedric realizes just how powerful it actually is.
Unlike the other items in the Divine Intervention series, whose effects mainly involve transferring information through words, images, videos, or dreams. The effect of [Divine Intervention: Urge] is more akin to hypnosis, compelling others to follow his bidding.
He didn't know the limit of the urge, and just how ridiculous the urge can be. For example, is urging someone to kill themselves possible? Or how horny someone who's been given the urge to reproduce will be?
"Guess I'll test it once my income rises. Right now, 10 GP is still pretty precious to be wasted on a random test."
Suddenly, the System appears to show its sense of presence.
[It's possible to make someone off themselves, but you need to use Divine Intervention: Urge that's several levels higher than the target. After all, every creature's survival instinct is extremely strong. As for the second question, it'll depend on the target's levels and Divine Intervention: Urge's level. If the Divine Intervention: Urge's level is much higher, you'll see the target doing papapa with everything in sight. Including Mother Earth.]
'There goes my experiment topic.' Cedric rolled his eyes upward. Then, he asked the System, "What's papapa?"
[Oh, you sweet summer child. Can't you guess from the context that papapa means sex? It's the sound that's created while doing it.]
Cedric rubbed his temple.
After dumping a bunch of not-so-useful information, the System disappeared once again.
Without the System showing its presence, Cedric continued to observe the escaped Heion while sorting out his plan.
This plan is also the reason why he used [Divine Intervention: Urge] when stopping Lacius instead of just messaging him like usual through [Divine Intervention: Word], or stopping Lacius from even 'harvesting' Helion in the first place.
It all boils down to his plan to keep Helion as Lacius's rival to keep the Temple in check.
Cedric has planned for Helion to have a certain amount of hatred toward Lacius, and then he'll help him to create a new top force with magic as the core. The newly created force will be the one who keeps the Temple in check.
Cedric had a change of heart and decided to create a rivaling force for several reasons.
One of them was that, during his inspection of the Temple, he discovered an overwhelming amount of corruption within.
A corrupt ruling force like the Temple would inevitably bring misery to countless people. And with enough misery, Cedric feared a demon king might suddenly appear.
Actually, he could have just told Lacius to clean the pest in the Temple. With his power, Cedric believes the temple can be cleaned of corruption.
But Cedric has a few more considerations as to why he decided to build a new force to rival the Temple.
Cedric has felt the disadvantage of a monopoly. The Temple's monopoly over knowledge and power has been causing the path of alchemy to stagnate. The corrupt high-level priests in the temple definitely don't help the situation.
Except for those, Cedric also needed to prepare a new force to balance the world's power once his world leveled up, and he decided to remove the mountain range separating the humans and other races' territory.
The triangle is the most stable structure in the world. So, a balance created by the three top forces should be the most stable. It'll push advancement as the three forces compete against each other while maintaining a certain level of cost effectiveness while for Cedric to intervene in the world.
With the Temple, the alliance between elves and dwarves, and the force that Helion is gonna make, there'll be exactly three top powers in the world.
