Chapter 110. Run! Run! Run! RUNNNN!!!
A few days ago, Lacius removed his petrification after hearing a report from the High Priest that a new Peak Level 2 has been prepared to advance to Level 3.
After reading the information about the soon-to-be Level 3 blessed, Lacius realized it was someone he had especially remembered.
"Helion Gadden… he should be the descendant of that genius who created the talent detector, and the boy who has decided to pick up Hars's research."
Lacius rubbed his chin, 'I recall I've told them to not brainwash him too much after hearing he has been continuing Hars's research.'
Although not completely effective, the Temple's brainwashing method, which has been refined for hundreds of years, is frighteningly powerful. The only drawback is that the people who've been thoroughly brainwashed are nothing more than will-less puppets that couldn't contribute their intelligence.
That's why Lacius has commanded those who seem extremely talented in research to not be brainwashed too much. Compared to a groundbreaking research result, Lacius felt that not using a few Level 3 blessed as his experimental material was worth it.
Lacius continued to read the information about Helion as he slowly frowned. Especially when he didn't find information that Helion has contributed anything to advance Hars's research.
'What a pity. I thought the field of study that Hars created can advance. After all, it seems like fate that the descendant of a genius I have heard of is interested in Hars's field of study.'
'But for there to be no results even after more than six decades. It seems keeping him alive isn't all that useful.' Lacius thought as he decided to recycle Helion into one of his experiment materials.
With Lacius's will, the High Priest prepared to immediately bring Helion to Lacius once he successfully advanced.
On the other hand, Lacius took a cautious approach and prepared for Helion's arrival. After all, Helion isn't someone who has been brainwashed thoroughly. Which means there's still a chance for Helion to retaliate when he tries to experiment on him.
Although Lacius has reached the peak of Level 3 and has an incredible amount of faith energy to increase his attack power, he always felt it's better to be safe than sorry.
First, he has long since modified the secret passage that leads to his secret room to be covered with a thick layer of metal. Because the Level 3 blessed he used as experiment materials are those with earth element blessing, the metals will block them from manipulating the earth while walking on the tunnels.
He also told the High Priest to use an alchemically processed oil in the lamp that's placed near the secret room's entrance.
When inhaled on its own, the burnt oil won't cause any noticeable effect. But if someone who has inhaled it later smells an incense made from century-old mint grown on a snowy mountain, their body and mind will become sluggish and fatigued.
Actually, fatigue is an understatement, because their body will be almost paralyzed, and their mind will quickly enter a state of sleep.
Aside from the oil and incense, Lacius had also prepared many other things. Since the blessed he brought to his secret room were all earth element users, he had long reinforced the walls and floor of his secret room, making it far more difficult for other earth element blessed to control.
That's why by the time Helion arrived at the secret room, he immediately smelled the refreshing fragrance of Lacius's incense and felt his body turn cold and rigid.
At the same time, Helion felt his mind become sluggish and exhausted. He feels like he'll fall asleep anytime soon.
When that sluggishness mixed with the existence of the god of alchemy who stood in front of him, Helion's mind became even more confused.
Amidst his confused state of mind, Helion felt something amiss, and his hand subconsciously moved toward his pocket.
After pulling several different colored antidote bottles, he drank all of them in quick succession.
The antidotes failed to completely remove the effect of Lacius's incense, but they did weaken it to some extent.
Helion still felt his body heavy with fatigue and his mind sluggish, but at least he could move now and wouldn't suddenly fall asleep.
He lifted his head, which had slumped down at some point, and looked at the god of alchemy, or someone who looked like the god of alchemy. 'What's going on? Is the person in front of me really the god of alchemy, or just someone with his face? Why is he trying to drug me? Could this be connected to the many other missing Level 3 blessed?'
Upon arriving at that conclusion, Helion shuddered and immediately tried to escape.
Stolen from its rightful author, this tale is not meant to be on Amazon; report any sightings.
He wanted to control the earth in the room, but found out it actually requires a lot more energy than controlling normal soil.
After contemplating whether to forcefully try to create an earth wall to block the god of alchemy before fleeing back to the path he came from, he decided to save his mana for later in case he needed to cast magic during an emergency.
Lacius has been watching silently since Helion pulled several antidotes. When Helion drank all of them and successfully resisted his incense, Lacius slightly nodded while muttering, "It seems he's not that useless after all."
When Helion tried to escape, Lacius finally made a move. He controlled the earth in front of Helion to raise and create a wall that blocked the entrance to the secret room.
"Damn it." With the path blocked, Helion gritted his teeth and forcefully used his blessed power to split the earthwall and immediately passed by the small gap he created.
Right before passing through the small gap, he brought out a processed material he had imbued with mana for a few seconds and cast a spell. Because it's something hastily cast, the power would've greatly decreased, but it should be enough to cause some confusion.
Watching Helion's weird movement, Lacius became cautious and raised an earth wall in front of him, which proved to be a correct decision.
Not long after the earth wall had been erected, Helion's spell arrived, and a massive explosion blasted Lacius's earth wall.
Although the earth wall was dented and shot debris everywhere, it successfully blocked the flame magic Helion shot. But the effect of the fire doesn't end there.
The tables and documents around Lacius were damaged by the shockwaves, with some documents even catching fire. Except for those, smoke also filled the room, which impaired visibility.
Lacius's response got delayed because he's surprised by the fire attack that a supposedly earth element blessed has shot. Furthermore, the power of that fireball is no joke, as it is already something only a Level 2 blessed could do.
Although Hars's field of study could recreate the power of blessed from other elements through alchemy, its power isn't this huge. He recalled that the most advanced study can only generate power equal to a recently advanced Level 1 blessed.
Lacius immediately reached a conclusion, 'Does that guy actually have achieved a breakthrough on Hars's research? Did he hide the result of his research?'
Thanks to the moment brought by Lacius falling into thought, Helion has successfully escaped the room and re-entered the secret passage.
Standing before him was the startled High Priest, who instantly realized what had happened and drew several pebbles while quickly widening the distance between them.
Though small, the pebbles shot toward Helion at incredible speed. They might not be enough to kill him, but they would certainly injure him and make his escape far more difficult.
While busily evading the retreating high priest's pebble attack, Helion continued his escape until he heard the sound of air splitting from his rear. He ducked and saw that a few earth spikes had passed by the location where his head had been.
Sensing the danger, he initially wanted to create an earth wall with his blessed power. But in the secret passage that has been covered by metal, it'll take considerable effort to control the earth to bypass those metals. Thus, Helion brought two processed materials and cast two spells consecutively.
First, Helion prepared to summon a thick curtain of water at his rear before casting another magic to freeze the curtain of water. In total, it'll take him two whole minutes to cast both spells.
During the casting, although some pebbles and spikes had grazed and injured him, he also used a trick to make the earth spikes that were shot by the god of alchemy look alike to injure the High Priest.
Amidst the bombardment, he thankfully successfully cast his magic.
From the corner of his eyes, Helion saw several earth spikes crashing toward the wall of ice behind him. After two spikes, a few more spikes shot and caused the ice wall to emit a cracking sound.
Because it's the spell created by two processed materials and consumes a lot of mana, the wall hasn't crumbled yet. But it won't be able to hold out for long. Especially because Helion could faintly see that the amount of earth spike stuck on the other side of the ice wall has been increasing.
Amidst his anxiety, Helion decided to ignore the earth spikes shooting from behind and focused on the High Priest in front of him. After shooting pebbles for so long, the High Priest finally ran out of ammunition.
Helion quickly ran and soon arrived near the High Priest. 'Should I kill this old guy or leave him alone? If I didn't kill him, what should I do if he makes it difficult for me to escape? But what if I had killed him, but everything is just a misunderstanding?'
He immediately gritted his teeth after recalling the dangerous attacks that had been shot his way.
'They're the ones who tried to kill me first! I'll think about the repercussions later' With that kind of thought, he suddenly dashed toward the high priest and consumed a bit of mana to create a small wind blade.
The wind blade only has the power of a Level 1 blessed, but it's strong enough to slit the old High Priest's neck.
After killing the high priest, Helion continued to escape.
Midway through his escape, the ice wall behind Helion had cracked, and Lacius had decided to chase after him.
Wearing a black robe that concealed his face and body, Lacius poured his faith energy into controlling the earth to push through the metal that covered the secret passage. The sheer power he unleashed made even the entire passage tremble.
While pulling some soil from beyond the metals that cover the whole secret passage, Lacius felt a bit of regret. 'I never expected for someone to actually find a method to use other blessed's elements to such a degree.'
If only he had known, Lacius wouldn't have covered the secret passage with metals. He initially prepared this metal-covered secret passage to counter earth elements blessed in case his experiment material escaped. With the straight secret passage, he could shoot projectiles from the secret room to incapacitate the target.
'But it's too late to regret.' Amidst such thought, Lacius never stopped shooting earth spikes and stopping Helion from escaping because Lacius not only desired the method to harness other elements' blessed powers, but Helion's escape would also bring endless trouble to the Temple and delay his plans.
A few hundred meters away. Upon feeling the trembling ground and earth spikes that shot at him at insane speed, Helion cast another ice wall while running.
After running for ten whole minutes, he finally left the secret passage and returned to the temple's corridor. Even so, Helion didn't relax and continued to run away until he disappeared into a corner.
A minute after Helion left the secret passage, Lacius followed suit. He immediately went to a place without any roof and activated his faith energy to fly and look for the escaping Helion.
Just when Lacius floated five meters above the ground. From behind a corner, a massive fireball shot toward his direction.
