Chapter 345: The Situation of the Outside World
For the past few months, Desmond and his group had taken refuge underground, concealing themselves from the outside world. Meanwhile, Felix and his men had the arduous task of venturing out into the treacherous realm to hunt down those monstrous creatures, returning with their lifeless bodies as a means of sustenance.
While Annie and the other girls dutifully took on the responsibility of cooking and designing the living quarters, Laura occasionally devoted her time to teaching Alice additional spells. Though Alice's progress in mastering these spells was slower compared to her time at the academy, she found solace in the fact that she was safe within the sanctuary they had created.
Desmond, on the other hand, had fashioned a small chamber for himself, specifically designed for absorbing the essence of the beast corpses and conducting his research. As he immersed himself in these macabre experiments, he discovered a curious resemblance between the Ghoul flesh he had acquired earlier and the bodies of these fearsome creatures.
Through the meticulous dissection and examination of the beasts' organs, Desmond unearthed a wealth of newfound knowledge, which ignited a daring idea within him. Selecting valuable parts from the beasts, he decided to stockpile them and arrange for his subordinates to deliver the goods to a nearby village once a week.
In addition, he instructed his subordinates to keep a vigilant eye on any news emanating from the outside world.
From the whispers that reached Desmond's ears, it became apparent that the beast onslaught had devastated the North Kingdom, plunging the entire realm into chaos for several agonizing months. Their esteemed Grandmaster had fallen, leaving them defenseless against the relentless assaults launched by the Sky Hunter. The desperate situation forced the king himself to intervene.
As for Desmond's subordinates, their loved ones had either failed to return or were feared lost amidst the horde of ravenous beasts.
Observing the dwindling numbers of the creatures in the surrounding territories, it became evident to Desmond that a malevolent force was orchestrating these relentless attacks upon the North Kingdom. This revelation strengthened his conviction that the enigmatic beast Felix had mentioned might be the mastermind behind this calamity, perhaps even the central figure in this world's unfolding events.
News of the North Kingdom's plight propagated far and wide, instilling restlessness among the human populace. With the South still locked in a fierce struggle against the demonic forces, only the Imperial Empire remained as the potential savior. However, the intricate web of relationships between the human kingdoms hindered any swift response.
Despite the relentless onslaught on the North Kingdom, Desmond had yet to hear of any reinforcements dispatched by the Imperial Empire.
While this state of affairs left the human populace in a state of panic, Desmond found himself unable to divert his attention to these broader concerns. His primary objective was to gather information about the well-being of his parents. Regrettably, there were no rumors or whispers circulating about them.
From this disheartening realization, Desmond concluded that he could no longer establish contact with his parents, and thus, he reluctantly assumed the mantle of temporary leadership.
Within their hidden base, an imposing tower, aptly named the Tower of Light, rose alongside a frozen body of water, with a mansion perched atop it. Numerous frozen staircases interconnected the land surrounding the lake, forming a pathway leading to the grand estate. The mansion itself sprawled across the landscape, boasting ample rooms to accommodate their needs.
However, a chilling sight greeted anyone who approached the mansion. The ground outside was strewn with the lifeless bodies of the beasts, their forms missing various appendages. Stepping inside the mansion, one would be struck by the shocking spectacle unfolding within the rooms.
Glass containers filled with preserved beast corpses lined the walls, while the thick green blood of the creatures stained the floor, creating an eerie atmosphere.
Amidst this gruesome scene, a particular room emanated a flickering light, accompanied by the bustling sounds of activity. Within, a youthful figure, appearing no older than fifteen, carefully held several vials of potions, pouring their contents with utmost precision into a colossal cauldron.
As the potions were uncorked, a repugnant stench wafted through the room, causing spiders and house lizards to scurry in fright along the ceiling. The vast space housed multiple tables, each adorned with sizeable cauldrons. Some pots contained peculiar, viscous blood, while others held various animal organs.
The young man meticulously tending to his experiments was none other than Desmond. Despite recently turning eleven, his appearance belied his age—his face adorned with a full-grown beard and mustache, while his long hair was neatly tied back in a ponytail.
"One... two... there," Desmond muttered to himself. Over the past few months, he had set aside his training to focus on his bloodline experiments. The mention of the enigmatic beast had piqued his curiosity, propelling him to explore other creature types. With the aid of the system, combined with his knowledge and self-taught expertise, his research progress had gained momentum.

[Saving the data to the host's mind...]
[Creating a custom method and new recipe...]
[A recipe for the Husk King Bloodline has been stored!]
A glimmer of joy flickered in Desmond's eyes as these notifications appeared in his field of vision. During these months, he had devised numerous recipes for various bloodlines, intending to conduct tests on human subjects after adjusting and modifying them to suit human physiology.
"The Husk King, Dire wolves, and Husk Wolves share the same bloodline generation. There's a possibility that a Husk King could emerge from either the Husk Wolves or the Dire Wolves," Desmond murmured, discovering the origin of the Husk King—an elusive piece of knowledge absent from human archives.
His gaze shifted to the cauldron brimming with ghoul and mixed beast organs. Natural energy swirled around it, and the pot simmered over a controlled flame. Desmond employed the most conventional and orthodox methods at his disposal, meticulously placing the organs and blood, duly sorted and scanned by the system, into the designated cauldron.
[Cauldron no. 006 has been analyzed!]
Suddenly, the cauldron housing the ghoul organs began to tremble, emitting a loud, piercing whistle. Desmond anxiously awaited the dissipation of the volatile natural energy, but with the passing of time, the energy within the cauldron grew increasingly unstable.
*Boom!*
A cloud of smoke billowed out accompanied by a resounding explosion. As Desmond employed his spell to disperse the smoke, he discovered the ghoul organs resting undamaged on the ground, while the cauldron had turned to ashes.
"Another failure," Desmond sighed, his experiments plagued by numerous setbacks despite carefully selecting the finest organs from the beasts. Every attempt to combine them with the ghoul organs resulted in explosive reactions, leaving only the ghoul components unscathed.
"Forget it. Now I need to hunt down a beast with a bloodline related to dragons," Desmond muttered. He outstretched his arm, causing the various cauldrons in the refining process to halt their work. Recreating the dragon bloodline had proven far more challenging than he had anticipated. Several failures led him to conclude that it must be intricately linked to a particular formation.
